I agree that the general news reporter in the Lower Mainland isn't confrontational. However, there are a few out here that are more than willing to get into one's face or use guerrilla tactics in order to get a particularly good story out, such as Chris Olsen and David Kincaid. To be honest, I'm not sure Olsen would be willing to do something like this. Kincaid might, though...

Not when he is healing from a bum knee.. I think ever since he moved to CTV, his reporting day is mostly over.

I'll support a Facebook group as well, this is absolutely unacceptable abuse of a system intended to help the less fortunate.

echoboy 11-04-2009 09:35 PM

I love your job C-man!

Volvoman 11-04-2009 09:37 PM

I remember seeing a show where the reporter camped by a clothing bank drop off catching assholes taking clothes and other things like furniture.

I see homeless people doing that at the Salvation Army and Value Village which is what it is...but when the unneedy go and do that, someone else should camp by the clothing banks...and fire paintballs at them

Richmond Food Bank. Wed and Thurs (tomorrow). I got my camera ready for tomorrow. Most of them don't look like welfare people.

I always thought food bank was to help POOR/Homeless people. Not for people not wanting to pay for their own food.

danizer 11-04-2009 09:58 PM

i would think that chinese ppl would have more face than to go get free food o.o?!
as cool as free food is, i think chinese ppl care more about their face than to park their $50K car and get free food from food bank :/

Roach 11-04-2009 10:18 PM

What the FUCK?

I help run BCMazda3. Since our club's inception, our annual December event has been a food drive to support the Richmond Food bank. We have braved snow, rain and fucking freezing weather to support this organization and their annual call for help.

But I swear to god, if I find out that my members have pumped money and effort into supporting an organization that is supporting people who are better off than us, I WILL FUCKING LOSE IT.

6 to 7pm? I'm supposed to be doing OT at work, but I'm going to lie or pretend I broke my leg so I can stand outside the food bank parking lot with my DSLR in hand.

SERIOUSLY?

I've been to many food trade shows where companies showcase new health products etc... and old asian ladies just grab put in cart, load into suv and leave.

asahai69 11-04-2009 10:28 PM

are you people more choked that the food bank is giving the food out to well off people? or are you choked about the well off people scamming free food?

Roach 11-04-2009 10:35 PM

Both.

1. The food bank should have some sort of a system in place to ensure that they are providing their services to families that are ACTUALLY in need.

2. The people who are mis-using the food bank should have some fucking morals. They are not only taking advantage of the people who are donating their time and effort for a good cause, but also taking advantage of the people who are actually in need and could use the hand-out.

Kev

C5_Ryder 11-04-2009 10:46 PM

I's freaking BULLSHIT

Give you guys another example, Did you know that if your family makes under 20k a year, your entitled to a free membership to any Recreation center owned by the city (icerinks, swimming pools, fitness centers). All these asian families that have immigrated here recently and have no jobs drivng BMW's get free passes every year. They are NOT poor, they just dont have incomes. Theirs a difference.

PS I use to work at one of these Rec Centers, and have watched these people abuse it.

you all should be more focused on number 2. im sure the food bank doesnt setup shop to feed people that just simply dont want to pay for it. they probably just cant afford to setup a system to recognize the people that actually need it

Roach 11-04-2009 10:51 PM

I agree with you 100% in the sense that the food bank's motives are in the right place. But if they don't have a reasonable system to sift the real from the fake, then perhaps the organization shouldn't be in business at all. Harsh, I know, but a not-for-profit organization will only continue to exist if the people who donate have confidence that the organization is able to allocate the donations correctly.

Kev

What_the? 11-04-2009 10:52 PM

post pictures after exposing them...

when they come out of their nice rides, and when they get in with their boxes of food....

i agree with youtubing that shit too

godwin 11-04-2009 10:57 PM

The question is how? Short of asking the family to bring in their last year's tax return, it is impossible to check. (even that doesn't reflect the true story AND open a can of worms).

Basically what is going to happen if the story breaks is donation will drop and the food banks association will complain to the media.

I am sure the food banks board know a percentage of users as freeloaders.

To counter the Chinese "face" factor? the food bank should should put everyone's picture who visits the facility on the web for a year, and how much they take.. Just like google: you give up your privacy when you use their service.. Can't handle that? don't use the facility.

One can spin it nicely and say it is for promotional purpose only, Richmond Food Bank supported these people last year! then big thumbs up.

To Cman Make sure you take the video from your side / public property.. remember to show them loading their loot into their nice cars.

HonestTea 11-04-2009 10:58 PM

Seriously..don't these people have any morals? They're taking food from families that barely have ANY food on the table..I'm fucking choked since I know of a few people that are working two-jobs and barely making enough to put food on the table..it's especially depressing around Christmas time too..

Remember that commercial where the lady opens a can and her roof opens as well? "Many families can't afford both" and she closes the can back? I'm sure those families need the food more then those assholes that drive luxury cars. Don't worry I'm not hating to those that drive luxury cars since I'm one of them but the difference is we actually buy our own food and donate money/food to the food-banks/charities, unlike those fucking cheapasses..

TRD Rs200 11-04-2009 10:59 PM

I bet many of those clai's are from mainland as well, all they know is take advantage of society and free stuff = never go wrong!!! omg fucking piss me off

124Y 11-04-2009 11:01 PM

WTF! This just pisses me off! I can totally see how those selfish Asians don't give a shit about the society nor moral at all.

asahai69 11-04-2009 11:02 PM

what the fuck is a clai?
