Richmond Food Bank BS
 

I work right beside the food bank in Richmond. And every Wed/Thurs the parking lot is full of cars with people lining up to get food. I'm all for the food bank and helping people in need.....IF THEY ARE IN NEED. Every fucking week I see many families getting out of their $45K+ cars to collect food. I've seen a Jaguar S-Type, BMW X5's, New GMC Denali's, Brand new Honda Oddysey's, Benz's, etc etc. I've even see bloody C-Lai's get dropped off down the block in the top of the line new Camry to try and hide their obvious BS. The best was some cougar in a tight sweat suit wearing her Ed Hardy shades getting out of her SUV (Previous Gen Yukon) on big chrome wheels going to get food. A ton of Asian grandma's lining up for also. I see them wheeling a cart of goodies home. Richmond is not exactly know to have tons of bums and shit, I don't think most these Asian grandma's need assistance since they're either living in a Senior home or with their older sons/daughters.

Has anyone volunteered at Food Bank before? Is there some sort of protocol to see who is eligible for assistance or can ANYONE just walk in and get food? Like I'm pretty fucking hungry and too lazy to pickup food...should I waltz on over and ask for a Prime Rib?

Isn't the point of the food bank to give to the needy? When over 50% of the people really don't strike me as poor. They strike me as 'exploiting the system' type of people.

I don't know about you guys, but when I donated to the Food Bank I just seemed to get this impression that it was for the poorer. OMG, there's a new Toyota Highlander that just pulled up with the family..... I rest my case.

Fuck, they should just allocate food to other areas if there is such abuse. The problem is, how do you enforce the food bank? Who decides who is poor enough to use the service. But I still agree it is crazy that people who are obviously not in need can just go in and grab food.

Well its either that or go to costco with a set of cutlery and go around to all the free sample food tables... But that consists of a costco membership....

They rarely, if ever, check your membership as you walk in the front door. If you go to Costco for the free food samples, at least you're "stealing" from a company that makes tons of money annually.

To top it off, most the people that drive these higher priced cars are female. They can't drive or park worth shit. Takes them 5 mins to BACK out of parking spot.

There are alot of people here that needs assistance, it's just a HUGE majority don't. There should be a way to check people's income or something. How much do people donate during xmas time? A ton, then the rest of the year the food bank is crying about not having enough donations. But when they're giving it away to people exploiting the system it irks me.

Why doesn't every single struggling student just head down to the food bank also? Hell all our grandparents are probably retired by now, why don't they go collect also. Fuck.

The ones that strike me as exploiters are usually FOBS (Asian, SE Asian, Persian). I think it's an Asian mentality to exploit whatever they can.

Go email the food bank about this, i heard an older couple talking about how they saw a homeless guy come out empty handed while 10 mins ago a bunch of well-off families (at least they looked that way) come out with boxes full of shit

This might be a good story for a local news station aswell.

The story could go either way. It could show how rich people in Richmond are taking advantage of the poor. Or it could highlight the fact that some people in Richmond are so poor, that they should be buying chunky soup instead of C320's.

That's why my idea of donating never involves material goods. I donate my time, which cannot be exploited unless I approve.

But yea, these ppl really gives us Chinese ppl a bad name. But most of the rich ppl Chinese ppl obtained their wealth in a short period of time. Before they'r wealthy, they'r poor & shit. I guess now that even they have more money, they can't change their old habit of being cheap.

ever since i was a kid i always saw asians go to the food bank and collect food..

my aunts friend who owns 2 restaurants (burnaby/van) would go out to get food from food banks -_-

i even saw my neighbour and her whole family drive out in old dirty clothes and come back with boxes from the food bank every week (its the only time they ever dress shitty)

i dont want to say its only a thing asians do, but thats all ive witnessed, its pathetic

i dont think Food Banks are organized enough to know, nor would they be willing to discriminate against people :/

Why don't you head over to the food bank and find out for yourself on the requirements for free food, then make suggestions up the proper chanel.

I think it's kind of hard for the food bank to regulate that other than the blatant mother fuckers who walk up with their Gucci purse. Anyone could dress a little sloppier and just go so it's not very effective for the food bank to try and filter people.

IMO, the most effective thing would be to bring this to the news so those shameless fuckers will stop. Thats the only way. They pose because they care about their image. If people are made aware then these assholes will probably get stared at/called out when they're doing this shit.
