The thing is it only takes a few bad apples to spoil the bunch.. however location is part of the issue.. I don't think the percentage of people living below the poverty line and in Richmond, is nearly as much as in Surrey.. But some people like to start non profits.. Quote:

And any major news about mis-use of the food bank resources will result in a drop in donations hurting those people who are actually in need. I don't know what to make of it. But it really pains me to know something I've supported for so many years and rallied our own troops around is benefitting people who are mis-using the system. Kev |
I think first we need real evidence, then perhaps a nice polite letter to the BoD of the food bank would be nice, especially if you had supported them over the years. I think putting a photo album of everyone who uses the system is the way to go, but I can see a lot of liberal bleeding hearts who are on the board of these things complain over it. Honestly people who leech the system would go somewhere else if this loophole is closed.. society as a whole is not very efficient, there is always drag in the overall system. I don't see why people get so worked up on it, I mean if the person doesn't have anything to do other than waiting several hours for $20 worth of groceries (if even), do you think they will be winners in real life? Don't forget the abuse in government bursaries and student loans. They probably belong to the same households. |
Put it on the Chinese news channels. Make a video of you confronting them about getting out of their bmw or Benz. Ask them why they're in line for a free hand out when clearly they can afford it. If they even do a little bit of coverage, the c lais would be too embarassed to go back. Posted via RS Mobile |
I don't see how one can do what you suggest without serious planning, a crew and equipment. I am pretty sure food bank abusers will be chumming for a potential of a nice settlement.. if they are already penny pinching at the food bank. 1. To "interview" / confront them you will pretty much be on the food bank's property. 2. Any interview to be aired on any channel you need a release (I don't' think they will be that dumb). Best you can do is take video with a wide angle lens of people in nice car, driving to the foodbank, and them loading up on their loot. Quote:

This is one reason why when I do donations it's in the form of "adopting" a local family that's in need. A few friends and I have done this for the last few years. You end up meeting the actual family and finding out what they truly need. I particularly like it because you can talk to the family and you physically hand to them the donations. It's also a good way to see if they're truly in need of a hand out or not. There was one family a couple years ago that lived in an upscale neighbourhood and had a new BMW 330i and X3 in the driveway that requested help. Needless to say we told them to 'eff off and if they truly needed help, they had plenty of cash available in the form of their vehicles and equity in their house (it was like a 3/4 million dollar home). Might have been a bit harsh to tell them that to their face, but c'mon... We ended up helping out a family of three where the wife was working three jobs because her husband was injured a couple years ago on the job and WCB/EI had run out for him, and he was still physically incapable of working. One guy ended up donating a spare car he had in his driveway to replace the rust bucket piece of shit that they were desperately trying to fix and drive at the same time. Quote:

Wow, this is disturbing news. I guess many of us take it for granted that most people would have enough morals and "face" to not do this and that even if this does happen, it's just not that common. However, from the sounds of it, it seems like it's a bit more common that we thought. Hopefully we can get some video shots of this happening through a time period and really get a sense of how often this is happening before we take further action. As Roach has said, every year we've been doing a drive for the food bank and it would be terribly disappointing to see the majority of the efforts being taken by these vultures. |

Sorry.... He's still on the bed zzzzzzzzzzz Call him after 1:00pm! Everybody gone!!! |
/facepalm do you people seriously think what you're doing will have any effect at all? webcaming and pictures won't change a thing. just take a look at unicef, red cross, and those donation boxes at mcdicks/timhortons. everyone knows that like less than 10% of it actually goes to the unfortunate ppl, but we (except for me) all still donate. There has been numurious talk about those society being corrupted, but so what? |
^this is worse. that 10% that finally reach the poor get fucken robbed by cheap chinks. So the poor actually end up getting 0% of anything |
