I always thought Cervelo riders were on the douchey side, for no apparent reason. Guess I have to change that now that I've joined the club. Picked one up for a price that I couldn't pass up, one of those deals where it feels like you would have lost money if you didn't go for it.

Anyone jumped to the dark side with Campagnolo gears or vice versa and can give a personal feedback?

I'm considering changing my current dura ace 7800 to Athena 11(or older chorus 10sp) but I don't have the luxury to test the Athena 11 out myself.

Thanks!

I am running a Dura-Ace 9000 11 speed groupset, the only con I have is that there aren't many compatible parts out on the market. Aka wheelsets and hubs...

The closer and and extra gearing helps out alot on the hills. Makes a huge difference having that extra gear. Only drawback I've noticed is that you tend to shift more in the beginning to find that perfect gear.

Are you considering going electronic?

distanc3 09-17-2013 11:29 AM

Thanks for the reply Wormiez

No I will stick to mechanical group. Either the Athena 11sp or an use 10speed group. The only complaint I have with the 7800 is that the shifting is soft and the inside paddle is plastic.

Btw are you running race or compact crank? I'm using compact with my 10 speed and do miss the punchy feel of the race crank. In your opinion do you think the 11 speed compensate a race crank because of the increase range?

I run the standard/race crank. Never rode on a compact crank before, so can't answer you on that. Even my last bike I rode standard.

When I was fitted for my bike I had the option to choose between standard and compact.
The fitter mentioned that the 11 speed standard crank would compensate well with my build and body. Went with 172.5 - 52-36

I could have waited for someone, but I was too hungry. Was on the tail end of a big ride(Downhill portion of Stanley park), and I knew a pizza place was like 1km or 2 away so I started walking. On the plus side, there was a bike rental place near the pizza joint, and they got me rolling again. I thought my jersey felt a little light today. haha. Murphy's law.

I dropped the chain on my singlespeed down that hill. Probably 10-15 cyclists(not in groups) passed by within 5 minutes and none slowed down or said a word. :okay:

I thought that 38 was the smallest you could go with standard... I found that the 39 was a bit tough for the long grinding climbs, a 34 would probably be too low so a 36 would be perfect.

I got a new to me SLC-SL, just in the right place at the right time. I have been eyeing out a full carbon frame, looked at some Argon 18's but never had Cervelo on the radar because of the price. And probably will never again because of the price, lol. Did the parts swap today, need a couple of bits to move everything over and run the cabling. I've probably got the heaviest and most ghetto SLC-SL build with ghetto 105 drivetrain and Rival brakes, needs kaycee's full SRAM Red to do it justice. This 54cm runs just a little bit smaller than my Rocky Mountain's 54cm, so it should be absolutely perfect for me fitwise.

bcrdukes 09-17-2013 07:56 PM

I've seen Specialized (or was it FSA?) who marketed the 36/52 as a "mid-compact" crankset, at least with the Allez bike they've got. I've only seen FSA's come in that setup with their SLK line however. I think BBB makes a 36 and 52 chain rings as well. Not very common but I think a 52/36 setup is ideal for Vancouver.

kayceeee 09-17-2013 08:49 PM

I run 50/34 with 11-28

Still climb like shit even with my granny gear lol

UFO 09-17-2013 09:14 PM

A 36-50 would be great. problem is the standard 130mm bcd only allows for small ring of 38, any smaller and the bolt holes go on the teeth. A 36-52 could work but it would have to be based around the compact 110mm bcd, so it's basically a compact crank with a larger rings which are fairly common

Martyn Ashton broke his back in the beginning of September. He was gonna follow up with road bike party part 2 soon but I guess it's delayed.

He's bad ass

hud 91gt 09-17-2013 10:53 PM

^ that video always make me feel better about my road riding. I use to feel guilty about hoping off curbs etc until I saw that. My wheels still need true'ing on almost a monthly basis, but I'll blame it on my weight. Haha

Well, I can sell you a pocket pump if you prefer.
For the inflator and Co2? $10, or trade me something.

Great news! 11 speed wheels and drive train are compatible across the big three brands!
