So no word on Esso here using ethanol in their 87 (no ones said anything so I'm judging that they don't have the additives that Shell, Chevron and Petro do)? Shell probably does from what I've been reading so far. I filled my tank with the Chev 87 BEFORE the 21st, so I'm a bit lucky I guess.

Nothing but a marketing gimmick. The way I see it is
1) Government legislates that all gas must have ethanol
2) Ethanol demand soars
3) Ethanol price goes up
4) Farmer grow corns (which is DIFFERENT from the corn we eat, these corns are not edible) to make more money
5) More farmer grows corn means less land for growing food
6) Food prices go UP
7) Gas prices does NOT go down, all in the name of reducing carbon footprint
End result:
a) Common people have to endure higher food prices AND high fuel prices
b) Oil Company: PROFIT

ethanol is fairly safe at 10% or lessethanol has less energy per unit of volume making that 1.10$/litre not worth 1.10$/litre anymore so your mileage goes down

why do they add ethanol to lower grades????
ethanol makes the octane rating go up

It won't make an appreciable difference to most of the cars people drive. Especially unmodified cars used for commuting. The folks most likely to notice a difference are those running at the ragged end of an aggressive tune, and you know what? They're running 94 already, and won't be affected by the ethanol blend.

ethanol makes the octane rating go up
 | Simple. all gas is mixture of 87 & 94. If ethanol can make rating go up, they can use less 94, which has a higher profit margin.

If you want to know for sure if it's a blend, or a regular mix... then watch the analog dials, if you can see them that is (some stations are blocking them off with stickers). And not all stations have 94 to blend with...
In some states, you can get 85 octane... pretty sure they're not mixing 94 and 87 to get that

What annoys me is that lots of pumps nowadays only have 1 nozzle for all 3 grades.
It means I have a probability of getting either 87 or 89 for the first few litres of my 91!

 Boooo.

 | Less than a litre way less. 89 is just a mix of regular and premium.
Esso gas contains no Ethanol.

Yeah, but Esso has no cool additives. All they've got is a non-talking Tony the Tiger mascot.
