All Chevrons introducing Ethanol blends as of Jan 21

Just found out about this, apparently Chevron is going to be blending all their gasses except 94 octane with up to 10% ethanol

What's the next best alternative? Shell? Esso? I wish we had Texaco here, they add that yummy Techron goodness in their fuel too.

Just a heads up next time you go fill up at Chevron...

Mugen EvOlutioN 01-25-2010 07:23 AM

FUCK!!!!$@$$*#@$#@

so they gonna end up like...MOHAWK?

god damn

will that affect petro? since they share the same foundation where they get their oil from.

Solo_D33A 01-25-2010 07:41 AM

... Texaco IS Chevron....

Next best imo is Shell, they collect AirMiles too (although I've even thought about using AirMiles for any use...)

Chopstick 01-25-2010 07:58 AM

umm does petro canada add ethanol?

J____ 01-25-2010 08:03 AM

Yup. There's a sticker on every pump that says "may contain up to 10% ethanol".

For those of you who don't pay attention... as I've posted many times over many years... there is only ONE refinery in the Lower Mainland, and it's owned by Chevron. Regardless of which gas station you buy from, all fuel in Metro Vancouver comes from that one refinery, unless it's been trucked in from Alberta or the US. The only difference is the tiny amount of additives that each 'brand' adds to their fuel.

sonick 01-25-2010 08:12 AM

I buy (bought) Chevron because of the Techron.

CRS 01-25-2010 08:14 AM

It is part of the new biofuel BS.

uh ohs.... so which one is Chopstick safe at?

Can someone tell me the disadvantage of ethanol mix? A google search told me:

1. Decreased fuel efficiency
2. Kills the engine over time
3. Creates more smog

Is there any more other than the above?

sonick 01-25-2010 08:23 AM

^ outside of your engine, the creation of Ethanol by the farming of corn is a highly debated topic, as well as the effect it has on corn prices worldwide as they are refined for fuel instead of food.

ugh. i'm not sure about esso. maybe it's just me but on my mom's 10 year old car the runs on regular unleaded, i went from chevron to esso and my mileage went from 13.8L/100km to almost 16L/100kms, and i'm getting a bit of engine knock.

should i start buying techron in bottles instead?

just those 3 sounds promising enough to stay the hell away from it

It's already happening.

Meister1982 01-25-2010 09:17 AM

does this have to do with when they changed 92 octane to 91?

Spooling 01-25-2010 09:26 AM

E85 and hybrids will surpass gasoline. Don't be so ignorant. Overall, E85 is a good thing and will become more important into the future.

dL 01-25-2010 09:32 AM

Uh oh. I've always used Chevron until now. Maybe it's time to go Shell?

dL

Mugen EvOlutioN 01-25-2010 09:40 AM

maybe its time for me use to 94 only instead of 91

guess i have to switch from 91 to 94.

roastpuff 01-25-2010 10:56 AM

Shell has ethanol in 87 and 89.

I fill up with 91 (V-Power), which has no ethanol content according to the sticker.
