I was tempted to leave town too and spend the Olympics in Los Angeles. When we got the Olympics, I was excited, even up to a few months before, but during the few weeks leading up to the Olympics, I almost started to dread it after hearing all the reports about traffic chaos, etc...

Work and my interest in the Olympic hockey tournament kept me in town and am I glad it did, and not just because I made 6 months salary in 2 weeks, it was really such an amazing experience going to all the parties, events and just wandering down Granville with thousands of strangers having a blast.

Iceman_2K 03-05-2010 08:28 AM

for those that ordered the dvd/bluray box set, have any of you received it yet?

Fixed.

And that's half the problem: Translink says "expect possible delays on Canada Line" and instantly everybody assumes EVERY day will be like opening day, with the 2+ hour waits all day long... and naturally starts ragging on them for not having enough capacity, not enough planning, etc. etc. And what happened? Nada. Busier than usual, sure... slightly longer waits, sure... but still smooth as glass. Chaos? Nah!

Same with the traffic - everyone panicking for months in advance about the sheer nightmare it would be, but in the end... a little more inconvenient than usual to get around downtown (I had to make a couple service calls), but on the whole, pretty well planned out and well-managed.

I know people way out here in the 'burbs who decided to get the hell out of Dodge because they got the idea the entire LM would be a total zoo... the fools.

Gumby 03-05-2010 10:09 AM

Yeah I was totally expecting traffic chaos, but I actually got to/from work faster than usual! I even took the bus once and there were only 5 people on the bus!

Thank god they decided to give UBC a 2-week reading break. :D

Yeah, it's Miller time!

Sidney Crosby
It was reported that Crosby's gloves and stick disappeared after the Team Canada star broke America's heart by scoring the gold-medal-winning goal on Feb. 28. No doubt they were taken so he would never use them to do such an evil thing again.

I was at Walmart Superstore on Grandview Hwy yesterday and came across one of these. $27.95. It was in the toy section (die cast cars). There were three left. Here's a link to the plaque. Kind of cheesy, so I didn't get it.

Here's the same one, but has 2010 Vancouver Olympics gold medal winners on it, instead.

http://5xzfz.doaz6.servertrust.com/P...ductCode=TC-01

It'll probably be on sale in a few months for $5.95.

Ronin 03-07-2010 01:11 PM

LOL notice they can't put anything about the Olympics or gold medal or even the Team Canada jersey/logo on it. Cheap Chinese knockoff junk.

MG1 03-07-2010 02:40 PM

The picture itself has the NHLPA, the Olympic Inukshit, and the Team Canada logo in the lower left corner. The second one has some gold logo on the bottom right.

But yeah, probably a knock off. Reproduced photo without permission.

They found Crosby's missing glove and stick, they where place on a flight to Russia by mistake apparently. Ovie's revenge? :haha:

Sidney Crosby's missing stick and glove have been found.

Hockey Canada says Crosby's missing Olympic equipment were misplaced rather than stolen.

Crosby's stick was accidentally placed in a shipment bound for the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in St. Petersburg, Russia, that ended up getting intercepted in Toronto.

And one of his gloves was put in a bag belonging to Patrice Bergeron, who sat beside him in the locker-room.

The items were misplaced in the chaos following Crosby's overtime goal in the Olympic gold-medal game on Feb. 28.

Who wants to bet the glove was actually found in Ryan Miller's possession?? :D
