The place used to be good before the Korean owners and when they took over the quality went to shit and the prices were totally ridiculous like 9 bucks for a burger fries and drink total ripoff.

I was so choked when I paid 9 bucks for a burger at vegas airport, no drink or fries included.

hotjoint 02-25-2010 06:58 AM

TOS'd 02-25-2010 12:56 PM

Just bought one, $10.25 for a Deluxe Chuck Wagon Combo w/ Mushrooms.

EDIT:

So, I'm just finishing up my meal. And here are my thoughts, bare with me since I'm no food critic. I'm too young to know the good ol' days of Wallys but I am old enough to remember my dad taking me there after school and he would order take out while I play on the pinball machine in the corner.

Burger- Definitely how I remembered it. It may be slightly smaller than before, but maybe that's cause I'm older now. Lettuce, tomatoes, onions, sauce, two patties, and I added mushrooms. Still very good, and sloppy!

Fries- So the combo for the fries and drink cost an extra $3 (i believe, regular price fries were $4 and I forgot how much a fountain drink was), anyways the fries IMO are not worth it. Although it's a pretty big bag, the fries tasted and felt like old cold fries. I tried the fries the second I picked up my food, so it's not because it got cold on my way home. Like the middle of the fries are a bit lumpy, I don't really know how to describe them. But I wouldn't buy them for $4.

Drink- Was just a normal fountain drink. They only have 3 drinks right now (they also have bottled pop/water/etc), Coke, Sprite, and the last I forgot but probably Ice Tea?

One thing I did not like was the 10 min wait for my meal, this could have accounted for my fries being so crappy though. And it's not like it was that busy in there. Only one other couple waiting for their food, and an old lady that went to the counter to ask when her burger would be done. It's like they make one burger at a time, lol. And it shouldn't be lack of staff because there was like 4-6 people working in the kitchen while the Wife (co-owner) was at the counter.

Overall, I'd give it a 7/10. But that's just from my experience today.

AVS_Racing 02-25-2010 01:19 PM

i should try this out sometime this week

Hey guys, I'm back from Wally's Burgers.

I'll provide a quick summary on the burger joint in itself. I'll get into the details if you folks want to go that far.

1. Overall Atmosphere

The burger joint in itself is located in a small strip mall so it is expected that the dining area will be small. It was full of old-timers and retirees who grew up going to Wally's. Seating is limited to only the counters on the wall and window with stools which were rather comfortable. The staff in the front are very friendly and follow up with you once you're done. There were kids in the back (children of the owners I assume) who cook and prepare your orders. The location is still new so a customer washroom is still in progress. They have an iPod playing some old skool music beyond my time.

2. Menu

Same ol' menu with maybe a few new additions. Prices are decent/reasonable for burgers. It's the add-ons that can get expensive (i.e. mushrooms/fried egg/bacon etc.) My lady friend wanted to try their milkshakes but they were sold out (at 1pm!) :o

3. Food

You know what? I hate to say this but if you love Vera's (or any gourmet burger joint) this isn't for you. They use very generic beef patties, shredded lettuce (I hate that) fresh tomatoes and diced onions (I prefer the onions sliced into ringlets.) I ordered the Deluxe Chuck Wagon (2 patties, lettuce, tomato, onions) with a fried egg and mushrooms. The egg and mushrooms were awesome - some of the best I've had and I wish I could lie, but overall, the burger was huge and alright for what I paid. The portions of the fries were huge. I could not finish it. Pop was nothing special - just fountain pop with no ice. The two combos came to $21 even.

All in all, I would score this a 7.5 out of 10. It ain't no gourmet burger and you don't pay gourmet prices. Next time, I'll get only just the burger and call it a day. Would I go back? Yeah. I think I would. But if you're a burger snob, don't bother. :)

Presto 02-25-2010 01:55 PM

fried egg is the ultimate add-on.

bcrdukes 02-25-2010 01:58 PM

Oh, one minor fault of their burgers - the beef patties are up top, not on the base. :p

Manic! 02-25-2010 02:07 PM

bcrdukes thanks for the burger porn.

carisear 02-25-2010 02:17 PM

at least its cheaper than vera's / etc.

just went to splitz grill for the first time, and stupidly said 'yes!' to everyhting the waitress said to add on. ended up costing over $20 for 1 fuckign combo :/ and the onion rings were crappy, and the burger was worse than red robins for sure.

i've never been to the old wally's, but this location is close to my 'hood, so i'll try it out this weekend. hopefully the kinks will be worked out by then!

bcrdukes 02-25-2010 02:26 PM

^
Splitz is one of the better burger joints in my books (I will go out of my way to eat here than at Vera's.) You just have to be careful as to what you order but personally, I would only order the burger alone. Seems like you had a bad experience. I would give Splitz another try.

Gawd dammit that is one sexy looking burger...
If its not messy, its not a Wallys burger.
Waiting for 10 minutes for Wallys is standard....
Cold limpy fries is definitely NOT the norm. I would have complained.

Koreans didnt kill Wally's.. thats balogne...
They just couldnt keep up to the 5 dollar meals from the fast food chains.
Good burgers are not cheap. If you want to spend $5.00 on a combo. Stick with Burger King and Mcdonalds. Im not knocking Burger King or Mcdonalds.. they are great burgers as well.

I actually wouldnt call their patties standard, its tough finding a thinner patty like Wallys.
Any other burger place, whether it be Veras, Fat Burger, Burgers Etc, Splitz Grill.
They all seem to use the standard thick patties. The thicker ones tend to be drier texture.
Albeit most other burger joints seasoning is WAY WAY better than Wallys Patties.

The bun is also not standard. Its got the perfect thickness and VERY VERY light. Just enough bread IMO. Nothing worse than an oversize thick bun. You will not find this unique chuck wagon bun anywhere else. Its exclusive to Wallys.

Special sauce is unique to Wallys as well.

Im a burger hound.... or burger aficionados some like to say... I love all types of burgers... My fav is defintitely Wallys. Although Splitz is a great contendor.

Its been a long winter without Wally's.. especially when we were frequently at Cates Park enjoying a good ol burger in the summer.

Gord the owner kept promising us he would open a Wally's in Vancouver. He finally delivered...

Welcome back Wally's.

lgman 02-25-2010 03:07 PM

fffuuuu... I was in the area and didn't see the wallys. Why did I get this greasy chinese food? -_- I'm going tmr

Drow 02-25-2010 03:10 PM

can anyone tell me the location of wally's pwez

Bonka 02-25-2010 03:14 PM

Elliott St. & 49th Ave. There's a Chevron on the corner. Actually there's nothing else around there besides that strip mall. I think I'll head over later myself :)

i think the koreans killed wally's man lol they started to jack the price up and use costco/sunspan or w.e for everything which made it go super downhill
