I've been following the thread since I last posted. I've come to some conclusions of my own in which for the price of their burgers, they really aren't bad especially for the price.

For arguement's sake, let's just choose a deluxe wally burger with mushrooms and fried egg. That in itself is in the range of ~5-6$. After finishing the burger, I would be pretty satisfied and full. I would pass on the pop and fries altogether.

Some may argue that they're Costco patties. I beg to differ. I went to Costco several times throughout the week by chance and took a look at their frozen beef patties. They don't sell anything even remotely close to what they serve at Wally's. I believe SlySi is right in which their buns and beef patties are unique to the business. Never have I seen a burger with such intricate buns nor beef patties. Sure, we could make a better burger at home. I won't argue that but the amount of time and effort it takes to make a burger of such calibre and beyond is not worth it for some people. I remember when the Koreans were running the show and definitely the beef patties were from Costco. But not this time around.

Despite the fact that they may not be up to par to gourmet burger joints such as Vera's and Splitz, they seem to have a different appeal altogether by offering a simple, rather nostalgic burger to people of all ages. You don't need to be a Yaletown Yuppie to enjoy a Vera's nor do you have to be a Main Street Hipster to hit up Splitz. Wally's is just a burger joint where everyone of every age and stature can go to have a great burger which brings back memories. :)

ya.. those fast food usually came to be around $6 with drink/fries.
so wally's burger seems a bit more to me, but ya.. I agreed with you that would be normal as they brought back many people old memories and the taste of wally's burger.. so there are demand for it. I wonder if they would make scrambled egg instead of fried egg if you request.. lol... just suddenly came out of my mind of this question.

May I ask what burger you have been eating then? If you go to Mcdonalds and buy the burger alone they easily get into the $4 - $5 range after taxes and the same goes for the rest. Perhaps your used to $1.39 burgers off the Wendys value menu or 2 for $3 mama burgers but $5 is pretty normal.

That's probably the only time it was happening. More so when it was close to the end when it was getting busy. They simply couldn't keep up with the demand and to speed things up they started grilling frozen Costco patties.

To clarify my earlier posts. I was only writing about personal experiences. The last time I went (old Kingsway location) they were using Costco patties. I can't and won't comment on the quality of meat they're using now. I will however, say that the pics bcrdukes posted show something I really want to try out.

Do you remember the banana milk shakes? Those were awesome too!

Vansterdam 02-28-2010 11:23 PM

I went today after canada won the gold, but to my disappointment, they dont have shakes yet, due to an electrical problem or something.

looks like news is starting to get around...

i had it today, pretty good, much better than crap like fatburger

I went to Wally's Burger today and the place looks really nice. bcrdukes pretty much covered it all in his post so I'll add onto it. I ordered a Deluxe Wagon with fried egg and mushrooms. The burger itself was really good. I don't know if it was the sauce, the egg, or the mushrooms, but it was goooood. The patty was nothing special, but I could sure taste the difference from any other burger joints I have tried. And as noots mentioned, Wally's is far better than FatBurgers.

The fries - it comes in a huge bag full of fries, but was nothing spectacular, really soggy. It came salted but the fries were something like McCain's or something.

The drink with the combo is a small cup.

For an extra $4 for the combo, I'd save those $4 towards your next burger.

which burger would the old Wally's regulars suggest? what should i add?

TOS'd 03-02-2010 12:14 PM

^ the one everyones been getting. deluxe chuck wagon + fried egg + mushrooms!

ForbiddenX 03-02-2010 01:03 PM

I'm going to need to try this place out! I've never been before but it's right on my path to and from school.

Presto 03-02-2010 02:27 PM

The fries seem to be one of the consistent complaints. Back when it was on Kingsway, after you received your order, you'd have to let the nuclear-hot fries cool down a bit. Otherwise, you'd get a nice grease burn on your lip/mouth. These new fries sound like crap. Has anyone gotten good fries from there yet?

Mr.Jay 03-02-2010 02:43 PM

wow everyone is getting the same thing eh

I will have to stop by before work and grab one of these bad boys

HOTSHOTKEN 03-03-2010 11:52 AM

had a hot dog, and it was quite tasty. Would go back for a burger if I were more hungry.
Wait was long though ... they need to step up on the speed

Deluxe Chuck Wagon with cheese is the classic..

Start with that, and venture off adding mushrooms, or egg...
It gets pretty hefty after mushrooms and egg...

Iv seen people add an extra patty and hot dog in there before..
Insane...

How is the egg supposed to be done?

I had one last night, and the egg was fully fried. meaning the yolk was solid, i thought i read somewhere that the yolk was semi-runny or like over medium atleast.

The onion rings werent that good either. Not crispy, kinda mushy and soft. Also the dipping sauce they give you, it looks like some chipotle mayo stuff, its really watery.

The egg should be over easy. They messed up your egg.

The dipping sauce is new and comes with the onion rings.
I agree. Its a horrible dipping sauce.
Onion rings now are ok.. I miss the originals.... Plenty of batter and next to zero onion. Those were the originals.

The cooks there are fairly new.. There is quite a bit of inconsistency with the way the burger is cooked right now. Which is unfortunate.

Me and my friend went there today again. The onion rings were AWESOME. Really crisp and best part, fresh. Can't vouch on the sauce as we did not bother.

I'm gonna have to stop adding either the egg or mushrooms. Every bite I took out of my burger it would just keep leaking out lettuce or mushrooms. :haha::haha:

I guess this really shows the inconsistency of their food right now.

^ That was my lunch today. Deluxe Chuck Wagon w/ fried egg, mushrooms and weiners (and a poutine on the side which was decent but not the best). And no, I'm not some fat obese kid. I just happen to have a good appetite =D It really hit the spot, but prepare to go through a lot of napkins.

XxFcukxX 03-04-2010 04:11 PM

Vansterdam 03-04-2010 04:37 PM
