anyone know any 15 inch laptops around 2.5kg or less that have long battery life?
I wont be gaming, mostly school use

cctw 11-28-2011 02:43 AM

why 15?..the new 13 inch asus zenbooks are hot!

jmvdesign 11-28-2011 05:43 AM

I'm finding 15" size to be too big nowadays. 13-14" are becoming way more practical.

dooode, theres a reason why lots of people are switching over, the mac really IS superior to PC in that area.. I didn't get it either until I bought the MBP

+1 I was a windows user my whole life and when I made the switch I found the Mac OS X to be a better experience imo. Everyone is entitled to their views and opinions but its worth considering if a person is open to trying something different.

Are you serious? I wouldn't pay twice as much for basic computing you can do on a PC.

I often have 2 windows running side by side on the screen like a pdf in one and microsoft word/firefox in another. And sometimes its a bit hard to read them, so im thinking it would be even harder on a 13" screen

Should I just buy a ssd and a new battery and upgrade my current laptop? I found a youtube video on how to dismantle my laptop

+1 for MBP.

OSX is Great for school and reading documents, word processing, surfing etc. I love the four-finger swipes! Even though I have a mouse, I hardly ever use it. No need to go with super high end MBP for gaming, the standard old refurbs are great as well (I think all apple certified refurbs have new bodies anyway.. just old internals).. and I don't think MBPs are really meant for gaming. They could probably run the standard SC2 or whatever, but if you really want a game rig, get a PC instead. Best to get a combo of MBP for school and a at-home desktop Windows PC for games

Win7 is also great for school, reading documents, WP, surfing, etc. If you're in engineering school, MB is also not a good choice, because so much engineering software is Windows.

See what I did there?

I guess if you're an art's student then it's good for you!

To each their own. What's that commercial that makes fun of Apple hippies.. "I'm an Artist, so I need an iPhone." "Dude, you're a barista".

I owned a MBAir and used it extensively for a year (I travel a lot). What it comes down to is whether or not you want to pay a price premium on old technology that is jazzed up with a shiny OS.

Senna4ever 11-28-2011 11:04 PM

Any 5 year old Windows or Mac can do "school and reading documents, word processing, surfing etc."

What's so old tech about the current MBA?

check out the AMD fusion APUs. Picked up an Acer 15" with A6-3400m for $420~ after tax.

I was waiting for the Samsung 7 Series Chronos but couldn't pass up on the Black Friday sale Lenovo U400 Ideapad. I could've gone with the X220/W520 Thinkpads but I went with style and portability instead. This should be sufficient enough for my entertainment with work here and there.

System components
2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2620M Processor ( 2.70GHz 1333MHz 4MB )
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64
AMD Radeon HD 6470M 1GB
8 GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz
14.0" HD Glossy with integrated camera 1366x768
Integrated 1.3MP Camera
Industry Standard Multi-touch 2 button touchpad
750GB 5400
DVD Recordable
4 Cell Li-Polymer
Intel 1030 BGN+BT Wireless
HDMI (Out)
None
3 year warranty

$1,246.54 USD after taxes ecoupon savings/additional warranty/accessories and free shipping. Having it shipped to my sister's US address as they don't ship nor sell to a Canadian billing address (which is pretty retarded).

This is pretty much better than a MBP in some aspects. Similar specs with better cooling feature, lighter, much more durable material (anodized paint) with a better design at half the cost. I'm just annoyed how they advertised an optional SSD drive but I couldn't customize my order.

u can always put in an ssd by urself, or add a msata one if there is a free slot. it will be cheaper and have 3 years warranty and you get the 750gb as a spare or additional.

but a glossy screen and a 4-cell =p

what's this cooling feature?

Agreed. That 4 cel will just kill the portability as you'll need to be tethered.

I would've chosen The X220 for pretty much the same price. It has the new IPS screen option and much better battery life.

Anyone know of any laptops that have at least 2Ghz processor, 2GB ram and a MUST a firewire port? Doesn't matter if its 4 or 6 pin in the $300 range? Only using it for school and music production which is what the firewire is for :)
I've seen many at this price range but no firewire :(

Senna4ever 12-09-2011 08:27 PM

Not too many PC laptops that I have seen have FW ports. I've seen Sony & HP laptops with FW ports.

I was wondering if anyone has the Samsung Series 9 laptop? Just want to know if its worth buying or if I should go in a different direction. (laptop for the GF)

Also for gaming laptops, does anyone have the Samsung Series 7 Gamer? or are there better options out there. I dont really want to go the Alien wear route either. (laptop for me)

I also dont want / need a desktop.

RacePace 03-29-2013 07:54 AM

This Lenovo Ideapad or this?
Samsung Series 3

Gaming Laptops suck. I bought the Alienware m13x. 1.4k ? Ya i paid 300 more on top for cosmetic and the brand , but hey I wanted one since I was a school kid. Might as well give it a shot.

Turns out, the m13x grew so damn laggy in a year and i just traded it for a desktop.

Fuck gaming laptops IMO. My friend has MB air , and hes loving da school life. LOL
