Where in the Lower Mainland can I tryout some Lenovo's? |
Contact ncix/memory express. I recall NCIX having a few one display the last time I went there (couple months ago ). Also seen 'em at FS. |
how does this look? I'm starting to weigh more on style, portability, and size rather than a full 15" workstation as I'll have a desktop machine to do my renders. Macbook Pro is also a consideration now. It's down to a Lenovo Ideapad: Lenovo - Affordable Lightweight Laptops |IdeaPad U Series | Lenovo | US or this Samsung: Series 7 14" Notebook | Samsung NP700Z3AH Thoughts on the quality of Samsung laptops? |
^mbp was $100 off at fs yesterday I just picked one up. |
what's so good about Macbook Pro really? a fully spec'd 15" is easily $2000. Any PC laptop is half the cost with the same specs. |

I prefer osx and mbp style, but its not really a debate. you said you were open to mb's so I was letting you know they're on sale. |

I looked at Alienware, Falcon NorthWest & Eurocom, and while the laptops by these companies had the computing power and high gamut screens, they were all too thick and heavy. With the MBP, you'll get the best trackpad in the industry, a great feeling keyboard, an amazing screen & if you care, a great aesthetic design. Sure, they're more expensive, but if you're a professional photographer, that difference can be made up with an extra day or two of shooting. Quote:
Show me a 17" Windows machine that is 1" thick and weighs 6 pounds. While the ASUS has impressive specs, it's way too big and heavy for photographic/video/graphic professionals to lug around from site to site. If you're just a gamer that needs the fastest laptop because you play CoD at Waves Cafe at 3am, then the ASUS is probably perfect. You just need to get the best tool for your needs. No need to hate. |
I never said buy ASUS for portability besides Asus is for true gaming well the G series. When i bought my g73-sw, i did not care for the size only the specs indulge me, i love my 17.3" LED screen. Don't be offended , i just do not like apple and have never purchased apple products or ever will. |

You know ASUS's laptops come with factory two year warrenty and the first year is self accident. So if you throw your laptop at the wall and sent it in they will repair it or if they can't , they will send you a new one. Posted via RS Mobile |

i suggested the lenovo b/c according to the reviewer, it has a touchscreen, IPS screen, 9 cell, he added a SSD, a spill-resistant keyboard, and overall ruggedness; features that i think would appeal to a photographer or designer in the field. |
I have an i7 Quad Core desktop already for 3D modeling/rendering and would like a much more mobile laptop I can lug around when I'm on the go. At the moment, I'm basing it on the design and size/portability with a balance of a good processor and graphics card. Essentially, I'd like to do the exact workload on my desktop on this new laptop while working remote with my clients etc. I had a Dell 15" Inspiron 6400 (weighing 6lbs) Core 2 Duo before and it was slow as shit and heavy to lug around and I feel that it will be the same with the Lenovo W520 (at 6.26 lbs), too bulky and maybe overkill for my needs. Moreover, I plan to set both desktop and laptop on a mini render farm to help with the render load. I think the Samsung 7 Series Chronos 14" (maybe 15" depending on how I feel about the size at the store) is the best competitor to the Macbook Pro. It's about the same specs but at half the cost. Acer and Toshiba have been known to overheat sometimes which is never a good thing. If you are looking a computer for recreational/entertainment purposes id recommend an HP computer. Get a good processor and you are set :D |

On a budget of $400, im looking to buy a new or used laptop that's decent enough to be able to run a few new games at medium settings. Is it a long shot or can I actually find one on Craigslist? Tia! I'm clueless about computers nowadays lol Posted via RS Mobile |
Any recommendations for a laptop that doesn't have it's fan on the bottom of the unit? I want to be able to lay the laptop down On a lap or bed without it overheating. Posted via RS Mobile |

Acer TimelineX 3830 is your best bet. either that or the Asus UL30J? The one with the Nvidia 540m |
+1 for MBP. OSX is Great for school and reading documents, word processing, surfing etc. I love the four-finger swipes! Even though I have a mouse, I hardly ever use it. No need to go with super high end MBP for gaming, the standard old refurbs are great as well (I think all apple certified refurbs have new bodies anyway.. just old internals).. and I don't think MBPs are really meant for gaming. They could probably run the standard SC2 or whatever, but if you really want a game rig, get a PC instead. Best to get a combo of MBP for school and a at-home desktop Windows PC for games |
