That's the one I'm looking at, but it's going to be like around $60 after shipping. Might as well wait until they drop down in price >_>

Don't really need the hotkeys, use them a lot less than the SHIFT key and the ENTER key lol. Plus, it's only the F2 hotkey that differs. For a $30 difference, I'm sure I can live with remembering F2 is not actually bluetooth but enabling/disabling wifi amirite?

This one shipped to Canada is only about $27-30...

Removing and installing the new keyboard is easy, it's only difficult if you want to do the backlit mod.

So..

What does the current keyboard look like and why is it a pain?

Like most keyboards I've bought/encountered from the North America market, they're set up with BILINGUAL so they layout is a little different from the "conventional" US layout

Biggest difference for me is the left shift and the enter key.

I can live with it, but i'd probably change it soon just purely out of convenience.

It's like when they were designing the keyboard, they started from the right side and worked their way to the left side, then realized there wasn't enough space and crammed those keys onto the left end of the keyboard...

I had the same issue on my previous 12" laptop, the left shift key was not double wide and there was no dedicated delete key. What I did was map the key to the right of the left shift key to also be left shift, then remapped its current function to be a key combination (ie hold FN then press).

Remapping keys is pretty easy, I think it was just a registry entry.

illicitstylz 11-22-2010 04:57 PM

^ great idea with the key remapping I'll post a tutorial if I get it figured out

Update:

Figured out how to save all of us $30 by remapping the keys instead of buying a new keyboard.

1) Download SharpKeys
Code:

http://www.randyrants.com/sharpkeys3.msi
2) Install

3) Run, below the LEFT column, click on "Type Key", push the " : \ " key that you want to remap (to the right of the left shift key)

4) below the RIGHT column, click on "Type Key", push the "left shift" key that you wanted originally

5) Apply/Ok all the menus

6) Reboot

7) ???????

8) Profit / Thank me ;)

LOL i never noticed that, no its QWERTY but for sure.

It was just used to illustrate the smaller left shift and the smaller enter

@jonwon, yes , I also have to remap the little enter key again I guess.

Couldn't we like GB 3 of them and go down to the states and pick up...? That'd be like 2.50 for the package then you're good to go so long as you don't get taxed.

I'm sure we could I wouldn't mind doing it but remapping should work too unless everyone else wants to buy one

Well, if I'm going to get a replacement keyboard, I might as well make sure it's the right one since I'm coughing up the dough.

I messaged the seller and he said he would be willing to do $40 shipped. I think I'm going to bite :D

This is the response I got back from the link I posted. I can inquire about how much 4 of them would cost if you're in, B-dawg.

illicitstylz 11-22-2010 11:47 PM

$65 shipped to Canada for 3 keyboards?

That's an awesome deal, $21.67 each shipped. Half of what you'd pay razor.

Yeah, it is an awesome deal! But I'd still rather get the right keyboard. :p

Chris wanted me to see what the price would be for my keyboard if we were to also do a group buy for that one, so I shot off another message to the seller. Guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow and see!

illicitstylz 11-22-2010 11:56 PM

Either way put me down for the GB we'll definitely get something arranged asap

Sorry, didn't get a chance to go on RS very much at all today.

It would be $130.00 for 4 of these with shipping.

$32.50 each.

That isn't bad at all. I just had a go at the keyboard today..

FML, the weird shift for things like !@#$%^&* made me go !@#$%^&* !

illicitstylz 11-24-2010 12:48 AM

so $32.50 or $21

Who wants which?

CRS 11-24-2010 01:22 AM

For an extra $10, you get a properly mapped keyboard.

I would not mind to fork over that extra 10 dollars as long as the stupid shift and enter are good to go.

jonwon 11-24-2010 01:40 AM

I vote for 32.50
