they have a review team upstairs, even just a couple of the refs that aren't on a pitch reffing a game atm (no hiring extra people) and these guys would
-review goals. by the time a teams done all the goal celebrations, they can tell the ref for sure if it was a goal or not. zero time lost.
-as above, penalties inside the 18
-review red cards. if a guy gets tossed, the guys upstairs review it (while play continues) and if it's found that a red should not have been given, the player gets let back on. (theoretically they could review yellows too) alternately the team could be allowed to get 1 red reviewed per half if they request it, but this would stop play.
don't review every foul and crap tho. just big stuff.
my gf argued that this would lose the refs credibility, and the players would argue stuff more. but to me, it shouldn't because the guys confirming decisions are upstairs anyways, AND these refs credibility has to be shit now anyways with all these calls that are obviously bad once reviewed on TV.

^ Well only because:
there's so few scoring chances, a 1 minute highlight is plenty of time to capture it all.
there's no drama. Players diving and getting hurt is normal. There's no fighting of course, this is a pretty discipline sport.
So there isn't really any "extra stuff" worth watching that happened in the game that might get left out in a highlight.
I just find watching 90+ minutes just to pick out 10 scoring chances is a bit tough to remain focused throughout the entire game.
Not really sitting on the edge of my seat. How do the rest of you guys do it?
The thing is, I love playing soccer though, probably my favourite sport.
The rest of us that actually can and do watch a full 90 minute match, actually get the sport? We have a passion for it.
Speaking for myself here, but I rarely get bored watching a soccer game.
I've played since I can remember... and not play as you probably play ( as in run around chasing a ball and kicking it nowhere once in a while ). I guess it can't really be explained in words, and you have to have it in you to truly understand it.

Anyone know where to buy vuvuzela's locally?
I'm pissed at the way WC is going, and I want to start trolling my friends
who still have teams in the tournament.

tilt your head back and using your hand pretend to shake a salt shaker in your mouth... you will notice that it will actually taste like salt in your mouth..
