Staying only for 3 days but don't think renting a car will be really worth it. Guess I won't be able to do much except work and chill in the hotel room

Ouch.

That's too bad. Are you not renting a vehicle due to cost/expense constraints?

Im heading down to LA first week of august with my gf and staying there for 7 days. What were doing is Disneyland, california adventure, universal studio, sea world, and six flags. We'll try to squeeze in some shopping and beach time. So far my plan is to stay near disney land for 2-3 days then stay somewhere in the center of where universal studio and six flags. Wandering where would be the best place to stay in LA hotel wise.

Thanks

Stay away from Downtown, Inglewood, East LA and Compton. That's all I have to say.

Sushi in Los Angeles is terrible. Right up there with Toronto.

If you guys are ever in the Seal Beach area, Sushi Ryokan on 1013 Pacific Coast Hwy is pretty good (but by no means cheap.) The owner and head chef there buy fresh caught fish daily.

Griffith Observatory is 100% worth checking out, make sure you go on a low smog/good visibility day... otherwise you wont be able to see nearly as far as you might want to... also worth going up there to catch the sunset.. so time your day accordingly IMO.

I LA

Oh and for anyone who wants to be baller status like me: http://www.pelicanhill.com/ Best place to stay in Socal, and though the rates on the website seem a little high at 1000+/night, don't let them fool you, if you are staying longer than a week, they have some really good "long term stay" rates. If anyone wants more info, PM me. Pelican Hill is sweet, they treat everyone like a celeb, you will have your ass kissed like never before.

Anywhere else to visit or eat recommendations?

I combed through this thread. Could use any updates that be great.

ALso: still haven't booked hotel. Suggestions on price range or hotels you've been too would be great.

Going to LA in early dec, hows the weather there at that time?

Where to stay that is close to Hollywood, Six Flags, Universal Studios and the pier around?

If anything, it'll be cool in the mornings, warmer in the afternoon and a bit chilly at night especially if you're staying somewhere near the Pacific Ocean. Bring a sweater/hoody for the evenings. Most of us Canadians will be okay in shorts and a t-shirt during the day.

Six Flags is in Santa Clarita and is a drive to Santa Monica, Hollywood and Universal Studios.

Your best bet is to stay in Hollywood, Studio City, Universal City, Burbank or Glendale. It's as "central" as it gets for the destinations you mentioned as you'll be near the I-5 or 101 freeways.

I have a week off in early march, wondering if I should go to LA or New York, never been to either, what are your guy's thoughts. LA is cheaper, but that time is low season for new york so might be cheaper to go to new york then? thoughts?

Be careful in March, especially in Los Angeles - most school districts in LA and Orange County have Spring Break so accommodations and car rentals can get pricey.

Me and the wife did the trip last year, and if you want to stay in downtown LA or around there, the best place for a small price is Jerry's Motel. It's a small family run place, ranked fairly high on tripadvisor, and they really go above and beyond for you.

So base on my research it's not practical for me to stay in a hotel near LAX?

I'm the type that will probably only stay in the hotel to sleep, so I just want something cheap. But at the same time, I dont want to have to drive 15 + minutes to go grab a bite or see or check out something.

Staying near beverly hills looks nice, but super expensive. Downtown looks like its the center of everything. can go to Anaheim, southern beaches etc.

Any other recommendations for which areas to stay in?
