Just curious does the tv series stray away from the comic?

Thinking about reading ahead hah

Ronin 11-25-2012 10:03 PM

The main ideas are the same. They start in Atlanta, Rick is a cop, Shane and Lori have an affair, they get to a prison but lots of the actual story elements are different. Character development, except for Rick, is vastly different.

The TV show is a PG version of the comic.

^^thanks

People complained there weren't enough zombies in S2.

They give them a herd chasing down several main cast members and they throw a homeless guy at the zombies, who tear him apart...and people complain it's pointless.

I'm disappointed pretty much nothing happened to Glenn and Maggie...yet. Further dilutes the story.

broken_arrow 11-26-2012 11:15 AM

If this is going to be a mid-season finale, when will it pick up again?

Agreed. Beat up a little but and a little strip tease? Woodbury still doesn't seem like a bad place to live. At least they're trying to find a cure.

I don't get why Michonne didn't cooperate at the very beginning like "your friends were captured and we should save them. By the way, I brought your baby food because we should be on the same side!"

Ronin 11-26-2012 12:11 PM

Yeah, Michonne is pissing me off. Is it really necessary to be that hostile all the time? Yes, some people are out to rape you but seriously, the Governor wasn't that bad and for fucks sake, you came to Rick for help, he saved your ass from walkers and yet you still don't want to tell him your name? Geez...maybe people wouldn't be trying to kill you if you weren't such a bitch to everyone.

EVEN MERLE doesn't seem that bad. Guy just wants to see his brother. To be fair, Glenn hit him first.

Hondaracer 11-26-2012 12:27 PM

Just kill the bitch already fuck

I wasn't the zombies per we but the lack of danger and tension. It was just boring talk on a relatively safe farm.

I don't have to see zombie killing all the time just need some suspense.

That scene felt like it wasn't gonna be something to advance the story but it wasn't (as far as we know). But maybe they will visit it again next episode on in the future. The black guy did look distraught when they were gonna sacrifice the bum to the zombies.

k Andrea is officially the new Lori.....
out of all the annoying things she's been doing lately, the part last night where they were at the death bed of that guy, and the nerd with glasses was trying to find out if there's still humanity after you turn into a zombie.
She had a chance to scientifically explain to the nerd about the brain activity post mortem/zombie mode, that it completely shuts off, and the only brain activity that takes place is the nervous system impulses. Instead she's just sittin there lookin dumb as shit

That's because she was there from the other season when they were in Atlanta I think at that Science building, when the Doctor there shows them under an MRI the brain functioning when in zombie mode, where he says something along the lines of "There is absolutely nothing left of the person that was"

DanHibiki 11-26-2012 08:08 PM

^maybe the writers forgot about it too lol

nns 11-26-2012 08:11 PM

She tried explaining it to him, but he wouldn't listen. Seeing is believing, and since he's never seen someone turn, he doesn't know any better.

Andrea could've gone blue in the face trying to explain it to him. Fact is, he's a stuckup intellectual who has been repeatedly lauded by the Governenor. He's got a chip on his shoulder and he believes his theory about walkers is true.

Andrea is no where near as bad as Lori. If anything, the writers have presented Andrea as insight to us viewers on just how convincing the Governor's deception/manipulation has been to all the other townsfolk. It wouldn't make sense or would it be feasible, time-wise, to show how the Governor is tricking each and every person, up close on screen.

Are we watching the same show? The Governor is the same guy who we saw kill a bunch of National Guardsmen, and then proceeded to steal their supplies. The same guy, who if i'm not mistaken, "rescued" their CO from the helicopter crash, only to trick him into revealing where his men were.

What about keeping the walker heads in fish tanks? I mean, this is what we've personally seen him do - who knows what other crazy shit he's done. He seems to have no problem manipulating whoever and doing whatever for his own selfish gain. That is not how a proper leader leads.

The Governor is a foil of Rick. Look up what a character foil is.

Saying the Governor isn't that bad is fucking stupid.

Merle, I'll leave that up for someone else to explain. His shit stinks, and he knows it.

Ronin 11-26-2012 09:24 PM

It's the zombie apocalypse. Shit happens.

The Governor in this just seems like a guy that's willing to do what it takes to protect his own people and fuck everyone else. SOUND LIKE ANYONE? So he killed a bunch of guardsmen. Anyone complaining when Michonne stabbed that dude through the heart? Rick was prepared to let the prisoners rot. Rick killed Shane.

No, we're not watching the same show because I'm watching it as someone that knows what happens and knows what the story should be. The Governor is NOT Rick's foil. That's not the comic's intention. It's just that the show has cut out all those elements.

The Governor is SICK and FUCKED in the comics. Like...SICK. So he killed some people on TV. Everyone on the show has killed some people.

DanHibiki 11-26-2012 09:37 PM

Rick killed Shane because Shane lured him out to the forest and pointed a gun to him ready to kill him and take his family. Dunno how you can NOT justify that one.

That sounds like Lori talk to me!

The difference is much more clear in the comics. FOR EXAMPLE...

Minor comic spoiler ahead

Spoiler!

Also, the killing of the "bad" prisoner (no clue what his name is) is much more obvious in the comics. Rick straight up shoots him in the face and makes it look like an accident after the prisoner threatens him and they're temporarily distracted by a walker attack.

In short, everyone is losing it a little in the comics. It is not meant to be a good vs evil sort of comic. It's a look into the dark parts of human nature. It's evil you can relate to vs. straight up psychotic fucked up wackjobs.

Ronin 11-26-2012 09:56 PM

And Merle, I think he'll surprise us. He hesitated when the Governor asked him where his loyalties are...and those rednecks are all about blood being thicker than water.

DanHibiki 11-26-2012 09:59 PM

^ya i hope rick crosses the deeper into the dark side of morality a la breaking bad style soon. the tv show does justifies his kills better.

Ronin 11-26-2012 10:10 PM

Which I think ruins the character development...just like Greedo shooting first.
