im using the sl2, was looking at upgrading to the sl3, but i dont plan on recording or running 3 decks.

-EuroRSN- 09-28-2011 09:01 PM

SL2 is more like SL1 tho... is there aux out on SL2?

Shoei@BJAutohaus 09-29-2011 11:10 AM

the specs on the sl2 are similar to the sl3, aside for the 3rd channel.

ive been reading everyones review, and they said the sl2 was a great upgrade from the sl1, but if currently go tthe sl2, unless you want to run 3 decks or recording, then dont bother to upgrade to the sl3.

!SG 10-02-2011 05:46 AM

i gave in, bought the sl3.

sold my sl2 to a friend, whom was looking at it. tomlee had it on sale for 699, so gave in.

bumping this thread.
I am planning to buy some monitors and was looking at the Yamaha HS5.
Is it better to buy HS5 (200$x2) and a subwoofer(300$) or to just buy HS8s(350$x2).

Any other suggestions?
I read that even though HS5's are 'not good', they are your basic beginner monitors .

i mix for fun at home. (edm/trance/prog.house/electro)

i personally have the hs50m's. they sound good for what they are worth but they lack in the low end . its okay with me though.

geeknerd 10-09-2013 04:24 PM

Yea i read that low ends werent that good on the hs5s so I'm thinking if hs8 alone can compensate for that or hs5+subwoofer(300$) is a better choice since the price comes out to be the same.

omg, didn't even know this thread existed.

I wanna get into mixing but I have no clue what to start off with. Tech 12's, Stanton str8's or something like a CDJ? I know it's best to start off with vinyl but it is pretty expensive.

^ Whats your budget? Start off with a midi controller for sure. Check out the Pioneer DDJ-S1 at Long & Mcquade. It a very well designed controller just like the industry standard pioneer mixers and offer similar features. Cost about $750 i believe.

My budget would maybe be around $1500? I'll check out the DDJ-S1. Would I still be able to learn on these compared to the basics like vinyl? Thanks

If you are not going to be a turntablist go with a controller. I would take a good look at ht e new Pioneer DDJ-SR it's a 2 channel version of the controller I just bought and comes with Serato DJ. The one I have also can be used as a stand alone mixer so you can add turntables and other devices. Another option is the Traktor S4 and S2 they use Traktor software. remember to save some money for speakers and headphones.

so just a question to all u owners of these DJ sets.. do u guys actually play for some mini parties or just for hobby to tune some tracks?

-EuroRSN- 11-26-2013 04:53 PM

I used to play at Forum and Republic back in the day. My friends and I also had a USTREAM radio show twice a week for good little while. Now a days, busy with school and work so strictly mixing as a hobby.

Vansterdam 11-26-2013 04:57 PM

check out the new Traktor S2 or S4

I would go with the new S4 if you can afford it

or the new Pioneer CDJ-900 NEXUS :sweetjesus:

I'm a mobile DJ so I have done all types of parties and use to DJ at a pub for a bit.

nabs 11-28-2013 09:39 PM

I would definitely say start off with industry standards, or similar to them... CDJ800's and any mixer with a 3 band eq will be fine. Grab serato and you're off to the races ;) DON'T cheap out on headphones... Sennheiser, Pioneer then Sony... in that order.

I was/am strictly vinyl tho. So if you want to start off learning grass roots get some Technic 1200 MK2's (and serato).

I used to DJ clubnights and raves in DT. Had a couple residencies.

Love Ortofon... I have a set of headshell mount Qberts on stanton weighted headshells... so crisp sound.

Do not just go for the cheapest. A poor DJ can ruin a reception. make sure the DJ is using pro audio equipment not home audio equipment. Also If the DJ mentions a Ipod or brags about how many songs he has stay away.
