1804: There are unconfirmed reports of army personnel clashing with police in Cairo, according to al-Jazeera TV.

Holy shit...it's going south pretty quick.

AWDTurboLuvr 01-28-2011 09:37 AM

No kidding, they've stormed the Egyptian TV building and are destroying equipment.

InvisibleSoul 01-28-2011 09:45 AM

Army siding with the protesters? Crazy sauce!

Early rumors of Mubarak (Egyptian president) fleeing Egypt

adambomb 01-28-2011 09:50 AM

Wow, i'm completely speechless from looking at the pics. Its hard to imagine sometimes as we look out our windows and complain about the rain or other trivial nimbyism in BC. Somewhere else in this world, under the same sun, shit is getting real. :(

News reports are saying it is the Egyptian police that are joining forces with protesters to combat the Egyptian military. But looking at the latest pic that LiquidTurbo has posted showing the city before nightfall. I wouldn't be surprised if by sunrise, more Egyptians are on the same side. :woot2:

twitchyzero 01-28-2011 09:52 AM

yeap..shit like this makes me appreciate living in Canada

But... but... there are GHOSTS.... at UBC!

Interesting to see. Maybe the US should have just supported a 'revolution' in another country instead of sending in the troops to Iraq.

If I was Iran now, I'd be worried. Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, maybe Lebanon? People are just tired of the bullshit, I guess.

How long until the Pyramids are torched?

Really though, I THINK if it goes too down south it WILL happen.... Well not torched specifically since it's slabs of rock, but vandalism... destruction etc...

Why would they do that? The Pyramids are part of their culture and heritage. The people aren't batshit insane, they just want a change of government

The Pyramids don't symbolize what they're protesting. They're a vital source of income in the form of tourist dollars.

I can't imagine them torching the Pyramids. Maybe in the alternate Fringe universe, but not ours.

^agree with evilbroscientist

if anything happend to the pyramids tho it would be a shame

TheNewGirl 01-28-2011 10:39 AM

The pyramids are also way way far away from where these events are happening in the cities.

Greenstoner 01-28-2011 10:49 AM

not to mention they are extremely huge and taking them apart or vandalising makes no sense.

anyways, this is crazy, government trying to control internet what the fuck we cant let this happen as a people of the world we cant let them control us.

LiquidTurbo 01-28-2011 11:52 AM

So what would you do if your government cut off all your internet (including RS of course), and deactivated all your cell phones? Would you join the riots in the streets?

AzNightmare 01-28-2011 12:02 PM

Army vs Police?? wtf

I feel sheltered but so happy there isn't crazy things happening in Canada.

LiquidTurbo 01-28-2011 12:05 PM

^ at the end of the day I'd be glad to have the army on my side vs the police.

dachinesedude 01-28-2011 12:19 PM

well arent the army and police still citizens of the country? im sure some of them hate the president just as much as the others, so might as well just protest with them, the president without the army and police on his side is gg for him

dinamix 01-28-2011 12:42 PM

I wouldn't say we are pussies, more like those issues are not serious enough to warrant serious mass protests like those in Egypt.

HST is nothing compared to the crippling inflation and 40% poverty + Dictatorship rule for 30 years.

I am not trying to be a Canadian Gov't appologist here but we have it good. We still get to elect officials (from a select pool mind you) and public opinion can make changes. In these countries being affected, any protest is quickly and brutually oppressed. Eventually this boils over and you get what you see in these countries, people tired of the constant oppression and the stagnation of leadership.
