Wow, it would take years and a lot of funding to rebuild egypt now. I think this is not the revolution for only egypt, but every third world country will start to change. I'm all for a revolution in these countries.

For the record, yes they are. The US has ties to Egypt it does not want to lose.

First of all give HST a chance. Understand what it is. Do some research. Don't make ignorant comments.

Second, as for the gas tax. It makes total sense to have it. Why should people who don't drive have to pay for people who do? If you're referring to BC's high gas prices talk to the owners of the gas stations. They are the ones who work together to 'set' the prices.

3rd - it sucks but, we live in a high maintenance province. So some services need to be paid for.

I don't really understand why you would want to do this here in BC. I don't want tanks and army in our streets. That's crazy

Police have left the streets and citizens are forming militias to defend their communities against looters and excessive violence.

There were reports today of police in plainclothes looting and vandalizing. Possibly in an attempt to make people feel like only the police force could protect them, cause fear. Or to discredit the protesters.

I agree with the HST thing. To play devils advocate on your second point why should people who drive subsidize public transit if they don't use it? I mean making the above argument I guess you would also have to argue that it shouldn't be subsidized at all and should be 100% user funded? Transit is heavily subsidized from a lot of places and by shit loads of people who don't use it, ever.

Not saying I agree with this point but using that logic it would only make sense right?

Not exactly. You have to realize that public transportation is a necessity while driving is a luxury. It makes absolute sense to tax luxuries to subsidize necessities.

Think about it, if public transit disappears, the whole city will collapse. But if people can't drive, big deal, they survive.

-Air Pollution. Why do I have to breath in dirty air because you want to get from point A to point B faster. You better pay more for your gas and that money be used to compensate me through public projects (public transit)

-Sound pollution. Why do I have to constantly hear car noises where ever I go. It's annoying. Compensate me!

I think there could be a few more points to be made if someone wants to chime in, I'm kinda tired.

because buses dont create pollution and one of the loudest exhaust sounds?

everyone directly/indirectly uses gas. gas in bus, gas in cars that deliver products, and somepeople just have individual benefits but thats like
drivers taxes going towards transit. lets have it fair bothways.

Driving is not a luxury if there's no bus service where you work or live.

Back on topic. I cannot believe precious artifacts were stolen/broken by looters. These are part of history - their history. Do these people not have pride in their culture? Some of that stuff was thousands of yers old. In any case, it's a crying shame.
