First time creating a video. Only have IMovie to edit on :( EDIT: Please watch in 720P, youtube quality sucks. |
you guys' videos are crazy... I'm feel so nub :( made another compo of my flying videos before I move onto the full grad video! This one made mostly to play around with things to see how they turn out :) Quick question: what's the best way to fix white balance? I've tried using "quick colour correction" in Premiere... but I can't really get it right... |

This was shot with a 5D MK2 and a couple prime lenses 28mm, 50mm. and a 70-200 |
Shot this on Sunday. |
Shot this car this weekend. |
Anyone have a motorized slider? |
I don't own one but I've used a couple different ones before. Honestly, for video shoots they're pretty pointless. They're great for adding motion to timelapse videos and can come in handy as a makeshift mini-crane, but otherwise you're better off simply hand pushing your camera on the track. |
I want it for time lapse but it could be useful for regular video as well. I was looking at this one from Varavon/OliviaTech. Haven't seen a motorized package for roughly $500 elsewhere and it uses roller bearings. |
The Motorroid? If so, it's a very lightweight unit. Only 6lb's carrying weight and the slowest speed it'll do is the full track in just over 5 minutes. For decent timelapse shoots, at least for night time shoots, that's not slow enough. I'm sure you can adjust the gearing inside the unit, but that's probably a bigger hassle than it's worth. I'm a huge fan of Cinevate's sliders. However, you're looking at a minimum of $1500 for a decent motorized kit through them. |
I'd just be mounting a 5D3 to it. But yeah, that speed isn't great. |
What about using an egg timer mounted at the end of the slider with some string wrapped around it tied to the camera? I have a homemade motor made from a bbq rotisserie motor with a slower gearing (from some RC parts) - You just need to tie a string to it and it will pull the camera slowly along the track. |
I used to DIY a lot of things but nowadays, I just want less headaches and hassles so I'd rather buy things than make them. |
a how to on making Hyperlapse video shots... Hyperlapse Tutorial: Creating Your Own Moving Timelapse, from Start to Finish This kid has some pretty cool stuff actually. I'm sure some of you guys probably already knew this - but it was quite interesting to me! 26 minutes of moving your tripod for 5 seconds of footage though.... |

So I've got a project coming up...want to grab a slider for movement. Is there a good rental place around? I don't think I'll need one for long and I don't want to buy one now...still researching which one I want for time lapse. |
Ronin, in case you're still looking for a rental place, check these guys out: Camera Rentals Vancouver I've rented a bunch of equipment from them in the past and the guy that runs it is super chill. He even opened up shop one Sunday evening to help me out of a jam, and that was with only a half hour notice. |

Not exactly cinematography, but it was the first time I used the video mode on my D600. Shot with a 70-200 f2.8 VRII. Mostly shot at 135mm or longer, handheld. The VRII did a great job. Its the only lens I have that has some sort of VR, as all my other lenses are primes. Edited with Sony Vegas, applied slight colour correction. Watch in 1080p. Also, obligatory dat ass http://a.deviantart.net/avatars/d/a/datass.png |
