Jordan we want to hook this up to your car

Fuhrėr-Z 07-17-2011 02:35 AM

Anyone running a canon APS-C? Got a 7D and am trying to decide between 11-16 tokina or a 17-40L.. Leaning heavily towards the L, but I could really use the width of the tokina.

JordanLee 07-17-2011 02:57 AM

Way to go Bill, your post that you stole from Richard, totally killed my 2nd page! GAH

Fuhrer: All my vids are shot on a 7D, works great! If you're sticking with the APS-C then get the Tokina, the 17-40L will hurt you big time at night with f/4. The Tokina is DAMN sharp too. Not to mention it can fit on a FF at 16mm which is pretty cool still.

Matsuda 07-17-2011 09:57 AM

Yea I stole that shit!

Dope, I just didn't know about the sharpness of the tokina, since I'm comparing it to a L lens. One more quick question for ya, at what point are you getting barrel distortion with the tokina? I know at 11m it's almost fish eye like, and at 16 on the crop sensor it isn't noticeable, but what about in between?

JordanLee 07-17-2011 03:07 PM

In no way is 11mm close to a fisheye. Its distortion is typical of an UWA. My friend has the 8-16mm and thats almost fisheye but still very manageable.

Examples of my Tokina:

11mm:

12mm:

However, my friends 8-16mm Sigma:

^ Tokina will be my next purchase, thank you good sir!

Then i found this company in Shanghai called GreenL that made a $39 one. I bought it and holy shit! cheap + sharp sharp sharp! made a review with sample shots for those looking for a vari ND for video + photo

A vari-ND review

You still think it's worth getting?

I checked today and the price has dropped.

btw anyone knw wordpress coding? My blog got hacked and it keeps getting injected with pill links. I thought I got rid of it but I guess not..

JordanLee 08-03-2011 01:27 AM

So I finally got my 5D MarkII and just installed Magic Lantern AJ 5.8, does anyone know how to set up the automated focus racking feature? I dont even have the Blue R icon on the top of my settings.

On a side note, this camera handles low light like a champ... miles ahead of my 7D.

JordanLee 08-04-2011 10:46 PM

Anyone with a fluid head I can borrow for Saturday? :)

BeeBeeSix 08-05-2011 08:28 PM

hey Jordan,

was wondering which of the gini did you order? like what is the actual name of it.
also can you do a small review of it? i know you mentioned the build quality is superb.

you mentioned that it has rods long enough for 70-200, can you show a pic with that setup?

thanks for answering :D

JordanLee 08-07-2011 02:15 AM

I ordered the Magic 17 Plus or something with the counter weight. I'm actually thinking about selling it though so if anyones interested let me know. I think I've settled more into using a Glidecam and slider for the shoots I tend to do. I'll try and get some more pics with different lenses on it so everyone can see.

GDChoi 08-07-2011 11:34 AM

Damn, saw this a day too late. I had a spare you could have used. :( lol

I think we need to go out and do a video shoot one of these days!

insomniac 08-17-2011 03:17 PM

i havent filmed a single video yet. i wanna try especially this slow motion stuff. is the slow motion just editing or is there a lot of equipment involved? what programs do you guys recommend me starting off with for editing?

ForbiddenX 08-17-2011 10:57 PM

There's actually cameras that are used specifically for slow motion.

You can always edit the slow motion but it will never look as clean as opposed to an actual shot with a slow motion camera.

There are cameras that do like 1000fps or something crazy like that.

As for programs:
Adobe Premiere Pro
Sony Vegas
Final Cut (OSX)

and Adobe After Effects for SFX

skyxx 08-18-2011 01:45 AM

^ Don't need a Slow motion camera. Just overcrank/shoot your DSLR in 60FPS then conform it to 30fps. You can use cineform to do the conforming. it's quite easy.

JordanLee 08-18-2011 01:48 AM

For that footage, a high FPS camera must have been used. Slowing 60fps to 24 or 30 wont look that good.

skyxx 08-18-2011 01:57 AM

^ Like the vimeo discription states, it's using a Phantom Flex camera.
