Jordan Schroeder on a line with Kesler anyone? :fullofwin:

Iceman_2K 06-16-2011 06:26 PM

With the team making the playoffs these last few years, i don't see why they wouldn't sooner or later. Its a matter of going back and seeing what holes need to filled in, and what condition the team was at when they finished.

Resigning everyone would be a pretty hard task....we're bound to lose one or two. The issue in the playoffs wasn't really offence, it was defence. By the time the finals ended, we barely had defence left. The lack of production in the last series against Boston isn't indicative of production through out the entire playoffs.

I don't necessarily think the issue was with our defence...it was just bad timing with the injuries. If we had a healthy lineup including Samuelsson, Hamhuis and Raymond, I would say the outcome of the finals would be different.

If we had the same lineup starting the playoffs ending the playoffs, history would have been different. We were steam rolling over teams, and one by one, the injuries took its toll.

I think we need the same depth as this year or more for the defence men. Injuries are a reality in the playoffs, and having to play an estimated 28 games to touch the cup, I think we need to tweak the lineup for that kind of duration of play.

This.

Winning the cup requires a lot of good luck with avoiding injuries. Sometimes you overcome it, sometimes you don't.

It is so much better reading up on the Canucks here vs. CDC. Bunch of tools over there with their nonsensical jabber.

If you look at the team roster that played the last game of the year, we had barely any defencemen left. I would think that from a planning point of view, we'd need to have more experienced defence men to keep up that depth that we had.

I would hope Hodgson will be put at least on the 3rd line as a winger for Malholtra. However, I'm not just looking for scoring from a guy like Cole or Upshall. When you watch them play, night in and night out, these guys bring it on the ice with their physical play and they win board battles, something we lost in the SCF. That's something that you can't see on the stat sheet, because honestly, 50 points from Samuelsson looks great on paper, but I'd rather have someone that can hit and forecheck well. Also, I look at leadership qualities...both Cole and Upshall are great locker room guys and are vocal.

As far as d-men go, if we can lock up Bieksa and assuming Ballard sticks around, we need a 6th and 7th d-man. Maybe Salo takes a hometown discount for one more year and we sign another veteran looking to make a cup-run again.

However, Raymond before he was hurt, wasn't really scoring. Yes he was healthy, but he had a cold season throughout. He's just gonna be one of those streaky guys I think.

next year is the year. :)

Subbed for gonna be another great season!!!!!!!!!

spoon.ek9 06-16-2011 07:09 PM

i truly hope hodgson can be put into our line up on a consistent basis to develop his confidence as a regular NHL player. however, as long as AV is around i highly doubt this will ever come to fruition. assuming lappy doesn't stick around, i wouldn't mind seeing hodgson achoring the 4th line centre role while getting chances to move up the roster as necessary.

tanner glass was the only stable 4th line player all year long (other than his injury). it was clear that we again had no 4th line that could contribute significantly in the playoffs. i do however like what we saw from oreo. glass-hodgson-oreskovich for 11/12?

ShyGuy 06-16-2011 07:13 PM

Yah I really don't think we need to make too many changes to our lineup. It was the timing of our injuries that got to us. I personally think the new additions of Higgins and Lappierre were great. Now all we need is a more skilled player to play with Kes.

yeah totally man....i don't really recall any of our dman going offensive in the last round like what they had been doing through out the whole finals...without danny, kevin didnt wanna go all offensive. ehrhoff with a fucked up shoulder couldnt even shoot properly....and poor elder could barely hold his stick with the broken fingers :(

i have a feeling salo is gonna be let go...kinda sad but i guess it would be better for the team :/

That's the crazy thing about hockey isn't it. Preseason + regular season + playoffs go from Sept - June. This is followed immediately by the draft + off. Of course off season talks right after. Can't wait till next year already.
