I can live without for now haha. Dropped so much coin on Uniqlo when they opened on Monday. I've been playing too fast and loose on the clothes lately.

Hey guys can anyone recommend a pair of boots similar to the picture below that isn't too expensive and looks great with jeans?
This is my first time shopping for boots, and if you guys could recommend anything around $200 (or under) and the brands, that would be great. As well as where to buy them locally.
I grabbed this picture from a couple pages back.

Thanks!

Dude, if you're willing right now to shell out 200 on boots, I would suggest budgeting over the next few months (or however long it takes) to save another 200 or so for those Oak Street Bootmakers boots, assuming you really do want them. Hell, they aren't even out yet so you've got some time to save up (although I think OSB is taking pre-orders).

OSB is a reputable brand, handmade in the USA and will probably last you a decade of you treat them well (shoe trees errrday and leather treatment now and again). What's a couple of months of wait time compared to the years you'll own the boot?

EDIT: okay I'll try and be more helpful. What specifically about the boot do you like? The plain toe (as opposed to cap or moc toe)? Leather sole? Shape? Colour? This will help me exclude boots that may have contrary features.

I was contemplating a $150~ pair of boots a page back... only because I want a spare set that I can get muddy without feeling an urgency to clean. Ultimately, it doesn't make sense though. Save up and spend $350-400 for a pair of boots that last you a lifetime.

I would go with Daytons, handmade in East Van with a lifetime warranty.

Good choice on picking Dayton boots, you will not be disappointed if you decide to get a pair. They may seem expensive when you first buy them, but the quality and workmanship that went into making them is second to none....you will have them for the rest of your life.

I have 4 pairs of Dayton's,the oldest being 10+ years old and they still look almost brand new.

....one last thing, make sure you negotiate a free container of their boot oil if you buy the boots,it's not much but it's still a $15 value.

To be honest Mindbomber, the best thing to do is head down to the store and try them out for fitment. They don't fit like any other boot made. The staff will determine the exact size you need when they measure your feet.

Plus the shop is a cool place to check out too.

MindBomber 11-02-2012 11:00 PM

That's exactly what I did, Spyker. I went down and ordered a pair last week after they helped me with the measurements.

After you recommended them, I checked out the site and was totally sold by the reviews.

I have my Dayton cork boots minus the corks I bought in 1945 or6.I started selling cars and I wore my Daytons to work as they were comfortable walking on cement. My boss asked me not to wear them. They are still like new so I guess that speaks for the quality to stand up for 65 years or so. - Harold B.

I bought my first pair of Dayton's, when I was in my early 20's. I am now 46 and still have the same pair. People I talk to now don't believe how old my Dayton's are, I use them every time I ride my motorcycle. Very satisfied with these boots. Now living Lima, Peru. - Thomas G., Peru

I am the proud owner of a pair of Dayton 64 Caulked logging boots I bought new in 1971 in Terrace BC. I have gone through three marriages, 20 odd motorcycles , 20 muscle cars , two houses , 15 guitars and several boats. Through all of that the only item I ever valued and actually kept to this day were my Dayton Logging Boots.

I now have 3 sons aged 18, 16 and 13. You can imagine my total surprise when my oldest, Hamilton came home the other day saying, "Dad, you wont believe this cool shop that sells boots in East Vancouver. All the cool rockers and record producers have their boots made there and I have to own a pair someday." I asked what the name of the shop was and when he said it was Dayton on Hastings I got the biggest smile on my face.

I proceded to dig out my old Dayton Logging boots (with climbing spurs), a few old photographs and got to tell him of my brief but thrilling days of logging in Terrace BC in 1971 and how and why I have kept these old boots all these years.

Thank you listening (and great Boots). - Tim C.

As a kid growing up in East Vancouver, many of my friends older brothers
wore Dayton boots. After buying my first motorcycle, my next stop was the
Dayton boot factory located on east hastings, to buy my first pair of Black
Beauty boots. I have had these boots for over 20 years and anytime I have
had a question or concern, I am treated like a new customer with a smile
and an eager suggestion. Dayton boots are like no other, when it comes to
craftsmanship and quality, you will not find another company that comes
close to Dayton boots. Thanks guys. - Sean

spyker 11-02-2012 11:15 PM

Oh my mistake.I thought you ordered them online.

Well enjoy your new boots.

Hey thanks for the reply. I guess I'm not really willing to cash out too much money because these will mostly be for the winter. Just as long as I can walk in the snow without getting my socks wet, I'll be happy.

Moc or the plain toe is what I prefer.

I am looking for a colour similar to the boots I posted previously. A darker shade of brown would be good too.

I am not too sure about the shape, but if you have anything that fits the criteria above in mind, that'd be great!

Thanks for the help!

woob 11-03-2012 08:03 PM

Okay, well if you're walking in snow, the leather sole on the OSBs is not the best choice because you won't have any grip and the leather would dissolve (not really, but it's not good). A rubber sole would be better. The boots I've suggested all have rubber soles, but only one of them is lugged for traction.

Anyway, here are my suggestions:

- LL Bean Katahdin :: ships free to Canada :: Here's an entire StyleForum thread dedicated to these boots
- Chippewa GQ or or in tan :: Same as the Katahdin, but with a plain toe (Chippewa makes the Katahdins)
- Timberlang Earthkeeper 6" Moc Toe :: I have these and they are great. They were pretty painful to break in.
- Sebago Fairhaven Boot :: This was on my shortlist before I bought the Timberlands, but the Timberlands were on sale at the time so I jumped on those instead.

Fcukedd 11-03-2012 10:39 PM

Hey thanks for the suggestion!

I'm liking the Katahdin ones, or a similar style to that but in more of a lighter brown/tan colour. Do you have any other suggestions that would match both those? I don't mind leather as well :)

Thanks again for the help, much appreciated. You're saving me hours of time!!

if the soles are leather go to a cobbler and get topy soles attached to them. It costs around 30

anyone know of any nice gray mid-top suede shoes $150 or lower?

woob 11-14-2012 06:09 PM

Sneaker or boot?

If sneaker, chunky (e.g. Supra Vaider) or slim (e.g. Chuck Taylor/Nike Blazer)?
