I suggest you guys to work for those warehouse sales. Aritzia, American apparel, whatever. I was a section manager for te American apparel warehouse sale at the convention center and I actually enjoyed working. I knew I was gonna miss the environment and co workers so I put in a double shift and worked for 15 hours yesterday lol. I'll make a bigger post when I get on the computer lol

If you apply for cashier you don't really stand a chance. They get cashiers and sales associates from the main stores around town to do the cash registers because they're experienced and more trustworthy. Sales associates an stock associates do the same task on the floor if it's a warehouse sale. But you do more of the stock associate part. Basically you make sure the shirts or whatever is neat and tidy. Nothing on the floor and everything placed where they should be. You get your own sections. Tshirts, hoodies, tank tops, dresses, vintage etc. sounds like a easy job which it is but prepare to have your legs sore as fuck by the end of the day. Keep in mind each section has 4-6 aisles and each aisle is like aisle you find in london drugs. Theyre long lol so you have to walk a lot. It may sound chill because how much work can there be right? Well expect the unexpected, racks get messy really easily because customers rarely put the things back where thy belong. I did section manager, basically i had to do everyone's job and be in charge of half the warehouse. Keep all the employees in check and up to date. But yeah it's a chill job, you work at your own pace, talk to cute chicks if you want, it's easier to approach them than you do at school because you work there and have that choice to do so, had a lot of really cute co workers too lol.

Hours are flexible. Kinda... You get the choice of working from 8am-4pm or 3pm-11pm. You won't get hired if you are only willing to work a few hours. That's because the sale is a week and they won't bother to change their schedule to fit your needs. Bus down there after school or something. If you work the 4-11 they usually make you leave at 9 because that's when they close an there's not much things to do.

To get hired you have to be dedicated or at least look and sound dedicated during the interview. Just smile a lot and be cheerful. Wear fashionable clothes to the interview. Rocks and trues aren't fashionable at all lol. Just overpriced jeans with shit on the back pocket. Wear something you would find at AA or the place youre going to work for. I always wear a slim fitting button up and straight or tight BLACK jeans. Knowing how to dress is one of the main things they look for. The got desperate the last few days because they declined a lot of people so they got pretty desperate and hired random people lol. But yeah all of the above is what you need to know to get most retail jobs. Holy shit spent so much time typing this post on my home lol hope it helped

I only get around 2 shifts per week (on game days) ... 2 x 6 hrs :okay:
It's not bad though, $11.60 x 12 hrs = $139.20 (Gross pay)
I want to be able to work at least 4 shifts a week though :banghead:

phunky.FOB 11-17-2011 10:41 PM

How the hell you guys gets jobs... where to start sigh

Just print out 10 copies of your resume and apply at different places :fuckthatshit: I'm pretty sure one of the places will call
Take the initiative

I worked there for a seasonal type deal because I knew a manager who used to work there. But a close friend of mine is currently working there right now.. He said it hasn't changed much. It's always super fast pace, if there's no customers, there's prep, if there's no prep, there's cleaning, stock, and so on. The managers ride the hell out of you as well. Shitty pay, but if you're just desperate for a job, then go for it. The people you work with are usually pretty cool, and sometimes on weekend if you're closing, everyone just kinda hangs around and has a few drinks when the restaurant is closed. :fullofwin:

Also.. they interview 5-10 people for just 1 position, and they're really just looking for people with open schedules.. any 16 year old kid can do this job, so there's really not much skill involved.. So if you're able to, give them as much availability as you can. Then once you're settled in for a while and they see you're legit, then tell them you have to change your availability for whatever reason.

Phozy 12-10-2011 08:04 PM

Anyone looking.. try metrotown mcdonalds once in a while ( not station square), or somewhere really busy. In the last month ive been there theyve already hired 8 people after me, and its realllly busy, hence the need for bodies

Gerbs 12-27-2011 07:15 PM

^ i worked at the metro place yesterday and there was atleast 38 ppl working LOL

supafamous 01-10-2012 09:35 PM

Like a few others have said, working at McDonald's is good for the resume.

When I review resumes (or other managers I work with) we'll give a second look to people who have worked at McDonald's especially those who became managers. Those other fast food joints have nothing on McDonald's when it comes to being a resume booster.

Phozy 04-09-2012 05:26 PM

Metrotown McDonald's is hiring again.. 20 people by summer

NOTE: You can get one of these forms from the location manager if you don't have a printer.

Just found this site, seems legit. Your employer gets $2800 for hiring you upon some conditions. Maybe you and your boss can get off a better start.

If it makes you guys feel any better, this is my career path starting at 14 to now.

Paper Boy > Dish bitch @ Sockeye City > Prep Chef > Cook > Prep Chef (because cook is too intense for my asian body) > Computer Sales @ Best Buy > Geek Squad > Self employed computer tech > NCIX PC Assembly > Head Assembly > PC Advisor/Head Assembly/Prototype Planner

Like many said, it just takes initiative and a strong mindset, as well as interest in the field you are applying in, I have a steady career @ NCIX right now doing what I love. You may think having McDonalds/BestBuy/(Insert big company) will hinder your resume, but thats the complete opposite, as many employers actually find those names to be very appealing, it gives you a step ahead of your competition when it comes to getting that job when they see Best Buy, instead of "Bob's 1337 overclocked computer store".

yot065 04-26-2012 12:10 AM

playland/pne is hiring always, and they pay fairly well. i started as a sweeper made about 10.25 a hr plus vacation pay.. then a year after it got raised to like 10.50 plus vacation pay and a bonus per check.. then i got bumped to like 11 plus vac pay and bonus (vac pay was like 15%, and i had a bonus of 25%)

lol if it also makes people feel better :alone:

sweeper > line cook for a slower restaurant > line cook for a high volume restaurant now > "kitchen" manager now at the place (all while i was still under 19) > now still working there and volunteering @ community police centers, and going to school for a degree :fullofwin:

like belaud said, just takes initiative, if you want something in life gotta work for it, some people don't realize the good things they got in life.
