Corporations have lobbyist to lobby/protest for them to government on laws they want created. Overall goal - to make their bottom line look bigger.

"Wall St. Occupiers" and Occupiers in other cities - their voicing out and protesting to the government to what they want. Some want proper fiscal spending by government and sound government that will make the economy stable. However, other messages that you see makes the hardworking people out there who did hit bad luck along the way look like they are leeches with the way they are misrepresented by the ridiculous demands. Overall goal - to have more money in their pocket.

Different sides, same goal.

I'm all for protest as long as it is peaceful and they abide by the law.

/b/tards are a bunch of edgey ADD pleabs. They haven't changed a thing and they won't unless they get centralized. Instead, you have a bunch of kids in masks taken from a borderline political film trying to throw around political conspiracies they read on an internet forum. You can't take these immature underage more then likely unemployed losers seriously.

What the hell is the plan? Do they even know what they are trying to achieve?

People will start caring when the real 99% starts to protest. not a bunch of college kids. I went to the protest and the only family figures I seen where hippies. If all of the real welfare cases joined together and rallied for equality then people would start to listen.a quote from one of my favourite books 1984-If there was hope, it must lie in the proles, because only there, in those swarming disregarded masses, eighty-five percent of the population of Oceania, could the force to destroy the Party ever be generated.

Another stupid waste of time
Why cant people just take responsibility for their own actions or inactions.
Do these 99% want a socialist life? Where everyone is equal and gets whats given to them by the government?
How can you call the banks greedy because people are to stupid to control there credit use and spending? Hell I'm 35 years old and have ZERO credit debt I have no credit cards I had them I payed them off I cancelled them and live by cash now.
Why would I give the bank hundreds of my money for debit card use when I can just budget my week. They are not greedy they are a business offering a service and you are using it.
If you want to make money then do something about it like get a job get a skill further yourself and quit sending your hard earned dollars to China VIA Walmart and quit wasting it on credit.
People are getting more and more addicted to cheap easy living with no thought on the consequences of it and no thought on how to get out of it.

He's also 60ish years old, so he may actually be flattered to be considered a hippie.

He was also a major proponent of the bike lanes. Somehow, I think that his voice resonated rather loudly in the City of Vancouver's office when it came time to make policy regarding bike lanes.

Just food for thought when labeling people. Sure, there probably were a good number of "hippies" with no "real" jobs who advocated for the bike lanes, but you'd be surprised at how many of the proponents were educated, highly-influential Vancouverites who regularly cycle to work, rain or shine.
Very true,

Most of the Directors and executives I know are all becoming "roadies" (they all have like $2000 road bikes. Although they only bike to work when its sunny. Maybe it's just me, but I see this as becoming very popular.

Off topic, but also I notice there's an increasing trend for older people to eat less meat and more vegetables due to health benefits and calorie intake etc.

that's true.... but the problems people are being loud about are also true....

about the picture that the OP posted about that guy thats so proud of himself that he made it....
guess what? tons of people aren't lucky enough to find a job that they went to school for... many are on the edge of their budget and have made compromises multiple times already...... its not clear cut black and white.

the people that have problems with money are to blame yes but look around... the entire world is out to get people like that. credit cards get easier to get, 40year amort on a 5percent down, shady real estate market hype, bs carbon tax, evergreen line tax, hst bs, bike lanes, people here flaunting 100k a year earnings and pay 7k in taxes....

Stupid people will always be taken advantage of. Our society provides ample opportunity for education, if they are still that stupid, they deserve to be taken advantage of.

For a society that over 50 years has decreased the high school drop out rate from 50% to < 10%, we don't seem smarter, in fact financially we seem less educated.

Which is one of the essential points; not necessarily more education, but better. How many people received a financial education when they were younger? Time once was it was all about work an hour, make an hour's money. Now it's about finance and leverage, avoiding fees and maximizing gains...

Not saying that you're wrong, but also saying that it's fairly unreasonable to expect people to learn something they are never taught, and can only learn through trial and error in many cases.

I agree. Personal finance were never taught in school. We learn about interest rate and compound as math problem. Our teachers never connected the dots between how interest rate can affect you in real life. If I am not working in the account field, I'd never learn about how to properly manage money. I've talked to some highly educated clients (those with professinal degrees) and I'm still amazed sometimes at how poorly they understand their or their company's financial position.

There's lots of things I was never formally taught which I have learned myself either by reading books, taking extra courses, finding someone to show me how, ...

You act like people don't know how to read, that we don't have libraries full of great books they can get for free. I think its absolutely reasonable to expect people to make an effort to learn something important to them even if it is not formally taught.

I think it is unreasonable you thought "trial and error" was the only other way, talk about more silly excuses that the system lets people down. I said it before: its easier today to get ahead than at any other period in history. If you stop making excuses, you'll see that.

You know the gas prices hardly have anything to do with WTI right? Do some research yourself.

I thought I would add this to forum as this guy is running for mayor and is a part of the occupy group.

Quote:
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - He calls himself the Saxmaniac, and he's one of 12 people wanting to be Vancouver's next mayor.

You might have already seen, or heard, Darrell Zimmerman playing his saxophone for the Occupy Vancouver crowd, or for Vancouver Canucks fans. "Music is the key to improving our society," he says.

He's running for mayor because he senses people are fed up with jet-setting politicians. He's campaigning for changes on the transit system.

"The whole linchpin of my candidacy is free transit. Transit fees are a tax on the poorest members of society who are doing the most environmentally-friendly activity."

He points out it's already been done in Hasselt, Belgium. "They've had free transit for 15 years. Tourism is up. People have more money to spend on small items like coffees and pizzas and that."

Zimmerman isn't exactly new to the political scene. "In the 2005 civic election, I narrowly lost to Sam Sullivan by about 50,000 votes."
I really liked this comment from the original news source

The "poor"

And just who does he consider to be the "poor"? The able-bodied guys who are wearing North Face jackets, using their iPhone4, drinking the $4 Starbucks grande cafe mochas and protesting at the Occupy Vancouver site at the VAG? People have a choice.

I have to say if I were mayor I would raise the price of public transit at least by 10%
