I was thinking this too, but risk of affecting non-protestors is really high.

just an excuse for them to go nuts in large groups, their protests don't mean a thing and won't make a difference...

Instead of working, they set up tents, got high then died.

Occupy Vancouver's List of Demands | Vancity Buzz | Vancouver Blog
>3.We demand people who make minimal to not pay income tax.
So you wanna work and not support your government budget? Whaaaaa?

>6.We demand a higher minimum wage.
It was just risen, what do you want? 13$ an hour?

>8 people who are not eligible for ei shouldn't pay them.
So you don't wanna support people who lose their jobs? Good socialism tactic there bro's.

>15. Canada to get out of NATO.
Lets get rid of NATO altogether guys! Let the tyranny of wartorn countries continue! And lets complain to our government about how we aren't doing anything to help the rest of the world with their conflicts! We all live and breath on the same planet, so lets try and keep it that way... Fucking idiots.

>16. No commercials on CBC.
Where are they gonna get their money from? taxes?

>17. Get rid of the anti terrorism act.
I don't really know what this is, but if it's what I think it is(Punishing terrorists harshly) Then keep it. Oh, these guys blew up a building because they robbed them, give them 5 years in prison.... Wha?

>18. stop trading with Amerika
There goes half of our economy...

>24.We demand an investigation on 9/11.
Old news, get the fuck over it already.

>25.We demand a non of the above on the ballot.
Don't vote then.

>28.We demand massage, dental and eye care be covered under free health care.
Although I agree with the dental issue, Eye care is fairly inexpensive and massages is a commodity. And a lot of people go their lives without ever seeing a dentist, an optometrist or a massage therapist. So why is it fair for them to support these professions when they will never use them?

>29. we demand equal pay for equivalent work.
So a guy who works at a job for 20 years is gonna get the same pay as the guy who just started? Have any of these people worked a day in their life?

>31.Legalize synthetic drugs.
The reason crack use is illegal is because it's incredibly harmful and unnecessary and having a legality on it will reconsider people from using it. Now if you make crack legal, then people will think "Pfft, Crack is alright in my books! I can't even go to jail for usin this shit so it must be a good thing!" Lets legalize pistols and meth then as well. What bad could come from that?

>32. Have all botanical drugs be distributed like coffee beans.
again, this promotes that it is not frowned upon to use pot/acid/shrooms or other natural drugs. Therefore, more people will think it's ok to do them as there are no repercussions. to be honest, I do agree that cigarettes should be outlawed. Nothing good comes from them and it kills millions of people every year. Why the hell not?

>34. We demand free schooling and our tuition to be written off.
It sounds nice, but secondary education is EXPENSIVE. You give people free education then you're gonna have to raise GST to 20%. Fuck that noise, I'll pay for my god damn tuition instead.

>38. Legalize prostitution.
The problem I have with this is again, it promotes prostitution. Young fluzeys will think "Hey, hookin is easy! I should get into that career path." I'm all for Brothels, but prostitution is definitely a criminal offense in my book.

>39. Universities stop taking money from corporations.
I don't understand this. So big corporations are giving universities money? Why is this bad? so they can promote their company and offer jobs? Wha?

>40.We demand the release of all non violent prisoners.
Even those money launders, meth cookers, arsonists, thieves and several other non violent criminals be dismissed?

>44. Farmers should stop using pesticides and use organic material.
Have these fucktards ever worked on a large piece of land? They use pesticides to kill off pests, and if they didn't then half of their crops would die. And for major farmers who actually want to make a decent living need to use artificial fertilizers because the crops will grow faster and it's easier to collect then manure. Do they honestly believe everyone is capable of shopping at a local farmers market and growing a garden?

>50.Shut down the tar sands.
although I'm not a fan of fort mcrack, it pumps a shitload of tax money into the alberta and canadian government. Alberta relies on its natural resources for prosperity, just like vancouver relies on tourists and foreign investment.

>57. we demand an end to clear cutting.
I agree with not chopping down old growth, I don't agree with stopping clear cutting. It's a major natural resource in british columbia and unless you wanna buy a 2x4 for 19$ it's the cheapest way to get lumber. And once you clear cut that forest, you can send in a thousand and one hippies to plant the forest again.

60 demands and I agree with maybe 15 of them, all of them would have to be directly focused on in a protest in order to get widespread attention. If they expect 60 massive changes to be made then they're gonna be sitting out their for the rest of their lives.

At first I supported the PROTESTS, the main idea of inequality, political lobbying, corporations lobbying the markets etc. . but now its just going downhill in Vancouver. It literally is a place for many lazy people to get high and fuck around. The whole occupy movement in Vancouver is making it worst for the overall movement.

Unlike in many parts of the world the protests are more organized, have respectable people (doctors, medics, nurses, teachers, war vets, engineers etc) and middle-income earners rallying on the streets in PROTESTS, with legitimate concerns, not tents to smoke up and get high.

Really...the people that don't want them there don't want them there for any reason necessary to pull them out and the people that support them will support them at all costs.

It IS a fucking protest...its not supposed to be all touchy feely for the city.

Let's compare the Falun Gong people. Their protest is designed to attract attention to the issue by being in an uncomfortable place(right outside the Chinese Consulate) and bring attention to the issue through the length of time they have devoted to it.

Sound like a protest you know? Yeah, its a double standard to have tents at one, and not the other. However, the idea of having an encampment in every major city gives them clout.

I would suspect that the tents will go right about November 20th.
yup, after the elections, things will start happening.

I'll just gladly wait for that nice first deep freeze we get in Vancouver. They picked the best year for their tent city. One where it's forecast to be a nice COLD winter.

Occupy Vancouver people are saying that the death is surprising, calling the protest a "microcosm" of the city.

BULLSHIT. Homeless people dont have access to a tent city with electricity. They're trying to deflect blame off themselves and keep the public thinking that everything is A-OK. The Medic has said that there were 125 overdoses last year in the DTES and had no press. Well NO SHIT this one is gonna get press coverage dumbass, public sympathy and patience has run out, this just pushes the occupy vancouver movement even more towards being forced out.

Central power is bad news has never worked and encourages corruption. Big gov allowing crony capitalism is one of the biggest reason for this financial mess the planet is facing.

No this is more of central power aka TSA. They have the right to search you without cause under the "anti terrorism act" they can put hands down your pants your wifes tits and your kids privates. This happened to jesse ventura and they pretty much dismissed him and wont give him a trial with a jury, just appeals court with bought out judges. So basically once your right to refuse search without probable cause is gone, the next human "rights" will on the chopping block.
>24.We demand an investigation on 9/11.
Old news, get the fuck over it already.
They want canada to pay to investigate 9/11? Gotta be kidding me

>29. we demand equal pay for equivalent work.
So a guy who works at a job for 20 years is gonna get the same pay as the guy who just started? Have any of these people worked a day in their life?
Sure why the hell not? Unless the guy working 20 years can do unequal work. Nothing to light the fire under your old ass from slacking when you got young bloods coming in.
>31.Legalize synthetic drugs.

There already are laws to punish you if you do something unlawful, why does there need to be laws to stop you from doing what you want to your own body? Making things illegal gives gangsters a way to make fast cash, without that ability crime and idiot kids aspiring to be gangsters would drop real fast.

>32. Have all botanical drugs be distributed like coffee beans.

Legalize them all or none at all, this pick and choose with some bribe accepting jerkoff playing god deciding legality is BS.

>38. Legalize prostitution.
The problem I have with this is again, it promotes prostitution. Young fluzeys will think "Hey, hookin is easy! I should get into that career path." I'm all for hostels, but prostitution is definitely a criminal offense in my book.
Same response as 31

some of their demands .. I'm just like , I honestly feel bad for the REAL protestors, the people with real valid concerns unfortunately because every idiot protestor gets lumped in with them they get a bad rep, like come on the student loans bullshit like I hate when I see that shit. Student loans are like an investment/gamble on yourself in my opinion. Why is it that they think because they didn't get an amazing paying job afterwards that they shouldn't pay for it? when I bet on hockey games I can't go and be like woah woah woah like I didn't really think this through I actually need you guys to write it off. And free post-sec education sounds good on paper, but its really impractical, just simply and demand, universities/colleges are already jam packed as it is. Making it free lol ? then we will need bigger buildings, more transit, more classes, more professors, more ta's and etc.

If the city goes in heavy and forces the protesters out, what would be the consequences?

Under the Charter, citizens have the right to peaceful assembly, but I'm sure it could be argued that setting up a tent in an area that is not a campground does not fall within the confines of peaceful assembly. The city has better lawyers than your typical social activist lawyer who couldn't make it in private practice (let alone even working for the Crown.) I don't think it would be a slam dunk for the protesters from a legal perspective.

Politically, I think it would benefit Robertson. He's a bit wishy-washy, but if he shows some strength, he might be able to get the support the real voters in this city - those who live west of Ontario street. Sure, he would definitely face some backlash from those who sympathize with the protesters (though not necessarily with their messages) and this group would be a hefty minority. But, what matters most is the people with money in this city and I'm sure they want to see the camp dismantled sooner rather than later.
