yea but if you're working with like 135 lbs squat.. lol, i'd think when you can be able to at least rep your bodyweight like 10 times

i never use it either.

i want to strengthen my core for heavier raw lifts until i know for a fact that my core cant get stronger anymore.

i think that ill wear a belt once i start deadlifting 5-6 plates. even 4 plates doesnt do that much damage to my back

I have never ever used a belt, but I am interested in trying one out. I can feel a bit of tiredness on my spine on some days from squatting 4 times a week this past month. If I do get one I'd probably only use it when I'm going heavier until I get more confidence.

A lot of you guys are pretty damn strong, especially for your weight. I weigh 200 lbs and I'm probably just at the tip of the iceberg. (405 dl, 315 squat, 225 clean) One of my favorite things about weight training is that half of it is mental. Without having that half locked down, you're probably going to fail.

Also, you have to take into account previous injuries. I for one have a few herniated discs (L4/L5), so I feel much more comfortable wearing a belt...

I almost always start belting up at around 315-365 on squats. Has this made my core weaker? Don't think so. On rare days I decide to go beltless I can still squat 400-450 beltless without much trouble.

I think it would be a good idea to get a belt. When you're squatting that much, chances are your back will become the weak link cause it fatigues quicker and doesn't recover as fast as your legs.

My shoulders are very weak, I have been a bit delinquent in training them and am starting to focus on them. I started out at only 15lbs for shoulder presses to be able to get my goal of 3 sets of 10. I am now up to 25 but the last few reps are absolutely brutal.

Just keep on going and try and find a buddy to work out with - it really helps with the motivation early on. I found that since I wasn't impressed with my numbers, the only thing that kept me pumped was competing with my equally weak buddy

Mark
I have been working out consistently about 6 months now. I could probably use more weights, but I usually don't feel my muscles working if the weights are too heavy. So I usually pick moderate-heavy weight, do 8-12 reps, lower the rest time, but I don't increase the weights very much. I can't bench press or close grip bench, my shoulder clicks when I do that, so I switch to dumbbells.

and also I suggest doing rotator cuff warmup in the beginning and at the end of your chest/shoulder workout if you can. It's better to prevent injury/pain earlier on.

A belt is an aid for your lifts by increasing intra-abdominal pressure. You will still get plenty of core activation if you decide to use a belt. More intra-abdominal pressure leads to higher numbers and provides more protection for the spine.

First time trying on TKs today. Was very wobbly in the beginning because I had a bit of difficulty adjusting to the cushiony surface, but once I got used to it (around the 3rd set), it felt like heaven. I could squat parallel without the discomfort I feel when I squat without it. It's phenomenal for my knees

thanks

No more excuses since my gym is in my garage.

The rack is the AmStaff TP006D Power Squat Rack Training System Cage from fitness avenue
[ Fitness Avenue ]
After shipping and tax came to about $390

Plates and barbell I got from Fitness Depot back when they had a sale.

Just went to my buddy's place and tried bench pressing for the first time. Managed 120x4 and 140x1. I really wanted 160 today but I am happy. I currently weigh about 155. Thanks for all the encouragement guys.

I used to own a home gym like that!

The most expensive part I found was buying rubber plates. 45lbs @ $1.25 * 4 add's up fast.
