i used to to use it every workout, except when one day i couldn't find one. 
i tried it and it wasn't that bad and i never had to go back to one. 
after a few workouts you don't feel pain in your back 
in fact, a few weeks ago my friend had a pad on and i wanted to try it and it was actually harder for me to squat :S

So i just didn't use it. It hurt like hell at first, had some light pain the next day, but i quickly learned what it meant to "put the bar on your bunched up muscles."   
So in your case, you might want to consider enduring the pain for a day, or just continue with the pad, but keep in mind, when you build a thicker cushion on your back, it's best to squat without the pad.

Keep practicing with the bar resting on your rear delts and you won't need that maxipad

			I've always used the cushioning when I did squats until one day a guy told me I'd be able to put on alot more weight if I did it without.  It's cus the cushioning actually redirects the weight on your body and makes it harder to stabilize your movement.  After that, I squated 90 lb more (1 plate each side)

For his purpose I think he was trying to isolate the delts

			Going to start taking pre workout again. Getting less motivated at the gym. Took a sample of napalm by muscle warfare (same company chestbrah is in) and holy what a difference.
