Been using the Bell LTE mobile data plan for the past month.. not bad.. Wifi calling is ok, just a bit of lag... I will still be keeping the Wind account for just a bit longer... So I called forward my Wind # to my Fongo #, so I can still keep my original #... Data is super fast now compared to Wind... Paying a bit more but I think I might just switch over if things dont turn out good for Wind.. just waiting to see what the situation is with wind and who will buy them out..

Ok, so I've been with Wind since December. Bought a GS3 on a tab, paid out Rogers over $200 to get out of my contract. My bill currently is $30 a month with a $10/month discount till October. Unlimited everything, even calling to the US. Great right?
Well Wind has been driving me insane lately. And so has my GS3. I have no reception at the places I go to; the gym, my studio, and on the road for work sometimes in places like Fort Langley. Annoying as hell.
But that's not what's annoying. The phone says it's roaming; fair enough. IF IT WORKED. When it's roaming, it doesn't actually work, only sometimes. So I can't send texts or make calls. ENFURIATING. I've almost missed paid work thanks to this. If it worked and just charged me 20 cents a minute, I wouldn't care, but it doesn't. When I get back into a Wind Home area ( which takes up to 15 minutes sometimes) I'm bombarded by missed calls, voicemails, emails and texts.
I dunno if it's the GS3 that won't switch, or the network, or both. And on top of it, my battery life for the GS3 is horrendous, and the thing lags all the time.
Thinking of getting a Nexus 4 and moving to Virgin, going month to month, and paying double what I do now to save me the headache.
Thoughts?

Thoughts? | You're going through way too much stress to justify a lower price. Change to Virgin. It'll be worth it.

I think you're right. The guy at the Virgin store near me offered to buy my GS3 for a friend, and will give me a credit and my first month free. And Virgin gives you credit towards new hardware down the road...
It is stressful man...I had Rogers before, the phone bill was the only thing that stressed me, but the service was fine. If I never left my house, Wind would be fine. But in real world applications, it's been just awful.

Honestly, if you're using it as a work phone and going out to places like Fort Langley (away from Metro Vancouver), you're better off with the big 3.
I think there may be some issues with the settings on your phone where it's having problems roaming. You might wanna check that out before switching to another carrier. As for battery life, all android smartphones have bad battery life. It's just the way it is unless you settle with a Droid Razr Maxx HD.
WIND is not for everyone, if it doesn't work well with most of the places that you go to, then stick with the Big 3.

+1 to what they said.
If I were on the edge of Wind's service areas, I honestly wouldn't have gone with wind. I want to be well within that 'safety' zone when I have my phone as a daily normal device.

Most of the time I stay in the downtown core or around Vancouver. But places like gastown, and even some random restaurants it roams (Cactus Club English Bay, The Reef Commercial Drive??)
And I use "roam" loosely, because it rarely actually uses the roaming network.

That's...odd. I never really had any problems in the downtown core with the exception of when I'm buried in the middle of a concrete building. That was with both my Galaxy Nexus and my N4.

^ Then maybe it's the Galaxy S3. Because it's switches to roaming VERY often.
Oh, and when I'm in Coal Harbour, the weather app reads "Squamish". Been like that since December.
And willystyle, looks like I will have to go back. Unfortunately, there's no inexpensive way to find that out; now I have to sell my phone, pay out my tab, get a new tab and buy a new phone, and sign up to pay more elsewhere.
No such thing as "try before you buy" in this game.

Okay, here's what I'm caught in at, at the moment, hopefully you guys can explain some stuff for me..
I'm on Mobi currently, my phone is shitting out on me, and I'm not that much of a fan of their service and I've always wanted to port over to Wind after reading some good stuff in here.
I wanna head over to Wind because I don't wanna be trapped in a contract as I'm planning to leave in maybe a years time to finish my studies outside of Vancouver. I'm kinda confused regarding the WindTab after reading it on their website.
Say I want the 30$ plan, and I'm wanting to get the S4. Its 700$ for the phone, so up front I'm paying $500 + tax , throwing $200 on the WindTab. So I'm paying 30$ + tax a month, 3$ goes to Tab, each month and if I want to leave Vancouver, I pay off the remainder?
Assuming I head down to the States, I can use the same S4 cause it'll have the same frequency as T-Mobile/Verison phones? Assuming I head across Canada, I have to sell the phone if the Big 3 are the only option where I end up?
Is my logic somewhat correct here? lol

Windtab: yes.
Phone in The States: conditional yes. You need to get your phone unlocked to accept non-Wind SIM cards (dunno about Wind's policy, I've always just used Nexus phones which are stock unlocked).
Phone across the nation: Not sure, honestly.
If I were you and were unsure about what your future is in terms of location and all that, I'd get a Nexus 4. Not only because I have one, but also because it's unlocked from the factory, pentaband so it'll work with any company's signals, and can be had for much less than the S4 (friend of mine got a BNIB N4 for $375 last month off Craigslist).

| You can use T-Mobile's 4G network (1700Mhz AWS) and their 2G 1900MHz network as long as your S4 is unlocked. You can get that unlocked either through WIND, or through a 3rd-party. Quote:

| If you move across Canada to an area where WIND does not serve. You can go with Rogers/Fido/Chat-R because they have a 2G 850/1900MHz (GSM) network for you to fall back on. You cannot use Bell/Telus as they don't have a GSM network.
You can go with a S4. But my recommendation for you is to go with a penta-band phone like the Nexus 4, as it will work with ANY network in Canada.

I haven't been doing any speed tests lately.
However, as reported in the other thread, Verizon has begun hiring Canadian Engineers & other support staff in Ottawa and Toronto. |
