| how would u like to pay 1.75$per liter? :)
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - One of the nuggets in yesterday's BC budget was a plan from the province to review the controversial carbon tax, but even if it goes away, experts warn gas prices could skyrocket this year.
On July 1st, you'll be paying a penny more per litre however that may change as the province is reviewing the carbon tax as the rest of North America doesn't have it.
Gas experts say prices could jump 40 cents more due to world political issues and oil refinery closures.
Vancouver drivers News1130 spoke to are not happy with yesterday's announcement.
"I think it's ridiculous and I don't want to pay that," criticizes one woman.
This man concedes it's an inevitability, "I think it's really encouraging people to switch over to hybrids.$ It's unfortunate but it's by-product of supply and demand and everybody needs it so prices are going to go up no matter what."
The price of gas on the Lower Mainland is about $1.34/litre.

Who would ever want to pay more for ANYTHING?

Well, the last time gas spiked at that rate, the american economy collapsed, so it should be an interesting ride.
I do agree that ditching the carbon tax is a good thing.
Stop taxing me!

In '08 oil prices were ~$150 a barrel, and at that time gas prices were about $1.40-$1.50/L.
Right now oil is at $105 a barrel and gas prices are ~$1.30/L...
Ditch the fucking carbon tax.

Just be glad you don't live in Germany, France, or UK. Why is their gas 2.5 x more expensive than ours? They are a lot closer to the source, aren't they?

Meh... it already costs that much in Europe. Its only a matter of time before its the same in N/A. Living in Europe has made me a lot more dependent on transit and when I go home I'll likely be using my car a lot less anyways...
Oh, and anyone who runs 94 already pays a ton anyways. :P... in 08 (07 maybe?) I remember 94 costing in the $1.7x's/L

Don't we get Carbon Tax Credit every time we get a HST rebate?

I may be talking out of my ass here, but why has the gov not investigated price fixing for gas prices? I understand moving forward that gas prices will trend higher, but I feel we are still being taken for a ride above and beyond the taxes.
It seems very odd to me that majority of gas prices can go up 5c/L in a single day as soon as any bad news comes out of the middle east. When we hear good news, they say it takes weeks for any savings to be seen at the pump. Then, we see the NIGHTLY 3-5c/L drop in price which goes back up to regular day time prices by midnight. This does not happen outside of the lower mainland as far as I've heard. Prices in Alberta, Ontario, stay fairly consistent overall.

Don't listen to these idiots. Gas consumption is DOWN, thus why you've seen the price slowly dropping for moths until recently it spiked cause Iran shut off the pumps and the commodity traders are going nuts.
Once the traders stop being greedy dicks it'll settle back to market value, which is DOWN as consumption continues to fall. Mish's Global Economic Trend Analysis: Huge Plunge In Petroleum and Gasoline Usage
I'll see if I can find the study, yet since the last time gas spiked in the US the percentage of new cars with 4 cylinders or less has risen from the mid 20% to > 40% - and with cash for clunkers there's fewer older vehicles on the road burning more gas.
Gas consumption will continue to trend down, and prices will follow.

Imagine no fluid or filter changes - essentially zero maintenance! | I too am waiting for something electric that would be worth buying. People should watch the documentary "Who killed the electric car?". This technology was available a looooong time ago and was only pulled from the market because it wasn't profitable for the oil industry.

I now get my gas from Sumas, Wa. It's around $3.65/gallon right now. It's minutes from work. I take a jerry can with me each time to use in my other cars. Not everyone can do this, but if prices continue to rise due to taxes, people will go south to get gas. Totally worth it for me. About a month ago, the prices were pretty low. Worked out to about 88¢ a litre. Compare that to what I would have to pay in Burnaby and..........
Even gas in Abbotsford is cheaper. I believe they are out of the highly taxed region. Not 100% sure, but I think Abbotsford is not part of the GVRD.

Prices fluctuate quite wildly here though, more so than in other areas within the lower mainland it seems.
A couple nights ago regular was 112.9, went to get gas the next morning, surprise it's up to 127.9.
Within the decade electric cars will be totally practical and competitive, can't wait.

^Yup they play games with consumers, but deny it when confronted. It used to be Fridays the price would sky rocket. Mornings, more often than not, the prices are high, only to go down by noon. LOL.
Now they raise the prices mid week for no apparent reason. A few times, Abby gas prices were the same as Coquitlam prices. If you don't pay as much taxes as in other districts, why would this happen?
Also, gone are the days of gas wars.
