No thanks for the 1.75 gas per liter.

I also do what MG1 does from time to time. Go fill up in US, bring some extra gas cans, do a grocery run.

It may be frugal but the money I saw from the gas and grocery run is well worth the quick drive and time down there.

Well spring must be coming. The media is fear mongering about gas prices going thru the roof this summer again. Like last year, and the year before, and the year before. I miss anthrax fear mongering, that was more fun.

Not really, there's been a gas war going on in Victoria over the past few months. Just yesterday morning I saw a station at @1.039, by the afternoon it was 1.25. It cycles up and down, high Tuesday through Friday, lowering Sunday-Monday.

It all started happening when our Costco's gas bar started agressively pricing.

Point Roberts FTW - save $0.40/l = $20-$25 per fill up.

Funny, because my dad has taken the skytrain daily to/from work from King George to Waterfront for over 25 years and has maybe been stuck/stranded 15-20 times because of an issue.

Go ask people in London how reliable the tube is...

haha, like Falcon mentioned, our Skytrain is quite reliable. On the other hand, delays and closures are a daily occurrence on the tube in London.

i remember not that long ago when gas finally hit $1/L and how most of the stations couldn't fit the extra digit on their signs... The next time that will happen is when gas finally hits $10/L which is....? 2050?

the refinery fire in WA is supposedly why our prices spiked in Vancouver

BP Washington refinery remains idle after fire | Reuters

according to cbc neway

and they're saying gas in WA state is going up so savings might not be as great before for those traveling down south for their fueling

http://www.canadianbusiness.com/arti...-in-washington

they dont know how long the refinery will be closed but some are already saying 1 month which will push gas prices well over $4 a gallon

What I used to do when it was like 1.4x/L... I would go down to Blaine/Bellingham every 2 weeks... every time I fill up my tank+a 25L jerry can+groceries (toilet/tissue papers, dairy, cereal... etc). Worked perfect for me and I hardly had to fill gas in GVR+the cheapest groceries without even looking at prices.

You guys know that you technically have to pay duty on jerry cans of gas if you get caught? That's a tax of $0.36/L btw

imo, i don't think gas will hop to 1.75 for a few reasons.
- globe economy has not recovered from the 07/08 financial crisis. We can't afford 1.75/L
- Gas affects EVERY SINGLE DAM THING, every other goods and services will hike up as well..
- british columbians's disposable income has dropped 10% while other provinces are experiencing a steady growth since the 1990s (from my knowledge, please correct if i'm wrong.)

In conclusion, gas will not hit 1.75/L simply because we can't afford it =) and gas is one of the most important factor to drive the economy

Top Gear ended up faking the segment for sensationalism and threatened to sue, so Top Gear ended up releasing a public apology next episode.

Yep! Gas wars startd in Victoria in the summer time. I have been following gasbuddy and checking the stations near my work/home every day.

Costco undercuts everyone and Chevron is matching which causes everyone else to match.

During the summer gas prices were at their lowest Monday morning and go up Monday afternoon. Then during the fall it changed to Wednesday afternoon spike. Now it is a Tuesday afternoon spike. Been like this for a couple weeks now.

I swear they change it up so that consumers don't get used to a spike on the same day every week and adjust for it.

LOL when people heard "Hybrid", they automatically think

but in reality, there a tons of "Hybrid" models that are nice..

Porsche Panamera S Hybrid

The Panamera S Hybrid is powered by a supercharged 3.0L V6 and an electric motor, producing a combined 380 HP and a hustle from 0-60 in 5.7 seconds with a top speed of 167 MPH.

Tesla Roadster

Since the Roadster made its debut in 2008 its been vastly improved. In Sport form and with 295 lb/ft of torque available instantly, the Roadster can whiz its way to 60 MPH in 3.7 seconds (the standard Roadster does it in 3.9). The 288 HP Lotus Elise-based Roadster can then keep going to an electronically limited top speed of 125 MPH. The Roadster can do all of this and still have a range of 245 miles on a full charge (unless you’re a notoriously lead-footed and loud-mouthed British journalist who only got 55 miles before his shut down).

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell

the E-Cell will put out 525 HP out of a high voltage lithium-ion battery

BMW i8

the i8 will be an all wheel drive, plug-in hybrid powered by a 3-cylinder diesel that is expected to produce around 400 HP when combined with its two electric motors. 0-60 is supposed to happen within 4 seconds

Audi e-tron Spyder

The e-tron Spyder is powered by a twin turbo 3-liter V6 diesel, as well as two electric motors putting out a total combined 388 HP

Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid
The 911 GT3 R Hybrid is powered by Porsche’s 480 HP Flat-6 which powers the rear wheels

Ferrari 599 Hy-Kers

It features lightweight batteries that are built flat into the 599’s floor and it also features an electric motor that’s developed by Ferrari’s F1 team

Jaguar C-X75

The C-X75 is a plug-in hybrid, powered by four electric motors, one at each wheel

Porsche 918 Spyder
When the production version debuts in 2013, the 918 Spyder will be powered by a 500 HP V8 and two electric motors, one in the front and one in the rear. The combined output of the engine and two motors is said to be in excess of 718 HP

I just google top 10 hybrid sports car... This is where I got all those information from

If you live anywhere close to the border, just hop it and refill once a week. Lineups in the morning or late evening are small. The extra 20 mins it takes is worth the $20 savings - plus buy some groceries and/or booze. Meat is sooooo much cheaper in the US. Even if you have to pay tax/duty coming back, it makes the trip once a week completely worth it.

I can almost make 2 weeks of driving before filling up, so going once every 2 weeks works great.
