NEW SIMCITY

I don't know how many fans of Simcity there are here... but I for one, still play Simcity 4 and cities XL on a daily basis.

New one got announced today - though nothing much was said, what are you guys' thoughts?

EDIT MARCH 11 2013:
Trip has setup a private Revscene region on NORTH AMERICA WEST 2, we can invite people to the region as long as we have them on our Origin friends list (which is screwy itself at best)

Here's a list of the RS Origin names, if you would like to remain anon, and be a loner, shoot me a PM and I will remove you from this list.
Spoiler!

I was just thinking about wanting to play the classic sim city, cool (someone must be reading my thoughts)

here's an article

Simcity 5 Confirmed: Maxis Taking Social and Environmental Bent to Classic Franchise

The rumors are true: as the internet has been speculating for weeks now, Maxis is in fact building Simcity 5, and it’s due out in 2013.

The game will be worlds different from the Simcity 4000. Maxis Senior VP Lucy Bradshaw wants to make one thing absolutely clear.

“We are adding curvy roads,” she says. “That’s really important.”

There are other changes coming as well. For the first time in the Simcity franchise, the world will no longer be confined to the borders of your own individual city.

“We’re building a simulation that really captures the world that we live in today,” says Bradshaw. “We’re talking about a Simcity where the resources are finite. Where you’re gong to be struggling with some of the same decisions that people are struggling with today.”

Online and social elements where if you put a lot of polluting power plants near your borders, your friends might start to get some smoke rolling into their suburbs. You might even start to contribute to global CO2 levels.

Maxis announced the game as part of the Game Developer’s Conference “Games For Change” track, and it’s planning for the new Simcity to be able to allow players to imagine the world around them in different ways. Speakers at the announcement included Davis Guggenheim, director of “An Inconvenient Truth,” Scott Harrison, President and Founder of Charity;Water and Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter.

For Guggenheim, the stories inherent in games and in documentaries helps people see social problems through new eyes.

“When you play SimCity, you cannot avoid the disconnect. You build a coal-powered plant,” says Guggenheim. “You will feel the consequences in a big way.”

But Simcity isn’t going to become some kind of deadly serious social malady simulator. It’s Maxis.

“You never know when a giant lizard might trundle around the corner and kick some buildings down.”

I love the SimCity games ... but EA will find a way to completely fuck it up as they always do ...

I remember back in the day spending hours and hours on older sim games like SimCity 2000 and Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 and 2. Sometimes I wonder if newer sim games are just too complicated. Don't get me wrong SimCity 3000 and 4 aren't difficult games but I rather see a more minimalistic approach to a sim game and maybe start adding cool stuff with DLC.

Loved SimCity so much.....but I think Diablo 3 is in the way now. XDDD

FerrariEnzo 03-06-2012 11:34 PM

How does the actual gameplay look like???

asian_XL 03-07-2012 01:31 AM

no objectives, no fun. Would rather play The Sims.

Nicotine 03-07-2012 01:59 AM

still have sim city for my playstation1 lol. should hook it up for old time sake.

RacePace 03-07-2012 09:05 AM

CURVED. ROADS.

I miss SimCity 2000. Raise the fricking taxes to 20%, deploy every possible type of 'disaster' on the archaeologies, and just wreck havoc in general.. Those were the days.

twitchyzero 03-07-2012 12:56 PM

i get the feeling this is going to fail in today's gaming market
or become a super niche game....online play should be interesting though

Knowing the direction of EA, your gonna have to spend extra coin just get the cool stuff

bloodmack 03-07-2012 03:41 PM

I remember doing a school project in elementary school using sim city.. fun was had :D

willystyle 03-07-2012 04:08 PM

The problem with Simcity 4 is that it crashes consistently once you achieve a megacity.

RacePace 03-08-2012 09:09 AM

The developers are doing a Reddit AmA today:

IAmA Maxis development team on SimCity. AMAA! : IAmA

For anyone unfamiliar with Reddit, AmA means "Ask me anything" and fans will ask them all sorts of questions

TouringTeg 03-08-2012 09:57 AM

Cool! I spent many hours playing SimCity, SimCity 2000 and SimCity3000. 3000 got a lot more complicated and became less fun. Added undergroup water pipes and subways.

I would try SimCity 5

CP.AR 03-10-2012 03:29 PM

Looks like it's shaping up to be just what everyone wanted it to be.
same gameplay mechanics - except that you can either get REALLY INDEPTH or REALLY BASIC

asian_XL 03-10-2012 04:26 PM

try this first, not much different from the 2011, some new maps and buildings

Sim City 5?

twitchyzero 03-10-2012 08:43 PM

did they have riots in the old game?
they need an option to allow a zombie apocalypse for overrunning the city

parm104 03-10-2012 10:36 PM

The hardest part about playing these games for me has always been playing without using cheats...

Hope they end up releasing it for Mac too!

RRxtar 03-11-2012 12:03 AM

I put soooo much time into Simcity 1. And quite heavy into 2000 and 3000 but they started getting complicated and a little less fun.

I would love to say I want to play the new one, but I don't have the time it takes to put into it, nor the patience to build it, especially with how many layers I expect there to be.

And agreed, it was tough to play without $ cheats. I hated waiting to do anything so Id always run the game on super fast speed, then slow it down to build and deal with problems, then fast again, and on and on.

Sim City 5?

Nah man that's just a cryengine2 trailer... new Simcity uses Glassbox. No actual gameplay footage has been released yet, but I have a feeling it's gonna lot somewhat like the launch trailer.

As for Cities XL... it's a cheeky alternative at best. It's OKAY, but memory leaks means that with a big city you have to restart the game very 5 minutes
