Turning WiFi off is useless unless you turn data off as well.

PornMaster 08-03-2012 06:50 PM

Wrong turning off wifi makes a huge difference because

1) weak signal drains battery
2) if your not connected to wifi ie driving around town the phone will keep trying to find a signal

Simplex123 08-03-2012 07:22 PM

I was referring to the guy who said he turns WiFi off at night when he goes to bed. If you're connected to WiFi it saves a lot more battery than using data.

Went to the free night market to find cases tonight.

Got a decent rubber bumper and a nice leather side-folding flip case for $25. Probably cheaper online, but at least no waiting for shipping. I use the bumper the most for day to day use, leather case for if I'm going to the gym or hiking and need to throw it in my bag.

I actually really like this case but it wouldn't look good with my pebble blue

Update on my order: I got an official statement stating that my order has been processed, now it's pretty much waiting to be shipped. I will soon be able to complain about the battery life with you guys!

They said that they don't have unlocked phones.. I went to Bell, Rogers, Wireless Wave and Best Buy Mobility. None of them would even sell me the phone outright :(
Finally, Telus was the only place that would sell me the phone without a contract.. so i picked it up.

The Telus phones are more expensive. $32.99 from cellunlocker.

Hmm...that eBay dude raised his price. Was $14.15 when I bought my unlock.

Simplex123 08-05-2012 12:44 AM

My Telus S3 was 15 USD as well at cell unlocker. But I helped them advertise by posting a video on YouTube showing how to unlock it and got the money refunded.

Levitron 08-05-2012 09:16 AM

This one is still $15: UNLOCK CODE FOR TELUS Samsung Galaxy S III S3 | eBay

Good thing you didn't drop your phone.

Anyone got tips for pro battery life? Maybe it will take a few charge cycles to work it out, but this thing can't last 10 hours right now. (light usage)

sonick 08-06-2012 11:03 AM

I noticed battery life get better after 3 charge cycles or so, charging with the phone off.

Wifi where available, LTE off, Lux Auto Brightness set with minimal backlighting, dark or black wallpaper/themes, S Motions off, haptic feedback mostly off (except for typing).

Lucky I searched this thread, I couldn't stand the Samsung keyboard and the stupid ass predictive crap, I downloaded the keyboard you suggested and it's prefect. Thanks.

Is there any other "must" apps for the galaxy s3 I should download?

Is anyone else having issues setting up their shaw email with their S3?
I'm on the fido network if that makes any difference.

terkan 08-07-2012 11:12 PM

incoming server pop.shaw.ca or shawmail.vc.shawcable.net either or should work
outgoing server gprs.fido.ca with authentication off
