Got a little tired of the old dusty interior that would irritate my lungs at times so I cleaned it up. Took some time as the seats have a lot of ribbed cushioning to wipe around. Seats are now buttery soft.

Discovered a couple of carpet tears while cleaning (not pictured)

That's a beautiful interior. Love those plush wide seats and expansive dash

Back in Sept I bought a set of dual stopwatches for the dash of the '58 beetle. Technically a classic rally car would have a watch and a stopwatch...but hey, I haven't found a matching watch yet. Long story short, while the mounting plate would work in the traditional mounting location (radio delete plate), I need to keep that area clear for a future item. So at some point I'd need to modify the plate. But first...

When a great friend of mine saw that I was starting to add some historic rally look to the car, he commented that I need a tripmeter. He's not wrong, but period correct trip meters are SUPER expensive. While I was visiting last week, this came out of his vast collection:

It's a very early Danish rally odometer known as a Hemo Trip Taeller. The odometer has two hands, much like a clock. The longer hand rotates on the outer dial. One revolution is a kilometre, so you can accurately measure to 0.05 kilometres. The inner dial, and smaller hand does 30km in one full revolution, so hopefully the rally master has an end of leg and/or ODO zero before then!

I think based on the very limited info I have, that this is a first-generation unit, from 1960. Later models have dots every 0.01km, and a mounting system that allows for putting it flat on the dash.

Back to the stopwatches...

After a lot of machining and polishing, I duplicated the mount for the stopwatches, but with a clearance channel for the dash trim on the beetle.

Here's both items mounted up:

And the Hemo lights up with the headlight switch:

I've never mounted the sun visors on my car, as its an early-build '58. I found evidence out of Europe that it may have come with the single driver-side visor like a '57 oval, but it's probably unlikely. The dual '58 set I have were pretty gross looking, so I tried out that vinyl die that's like spray paint. I need to see if it's available in ivory, not the white I used...but I'm surprised at how well they turned out.

And lastly, a little art project:

Used the gunmetal spray paint for my SLK wheels, it ends up quite good. I will do the rear emblem next weekend.

Winter and no garage sucks, the sun comes down at 5pm, I was planning to do a bunch of stuff behind the bumper, ended up only the DRL LED, foglights are installed, and painted the front emblem

Fun times! Replacing door hinge pins on a VW is one of those jobs people avoid, and lots of restoration guys will even avoid doing on customer's cars. It's a job that should really only be done before a car is painted, but the need for new pins doesn't necessarily match up to the paint schedule!

Two sets of pins are available, first and second oversize. I had to go to second oversize, which means if this car ever needs pins again I'm in trouble. First set lasted 60 years though...

After the job I have very minor paint damage to the top of both hinges, which is to be expected the way the tool works. The chips are easily touched up, and the door opens and closes like it should. Onto the next item on the list!

installed a Thinkware F800 front/rear into the car.

it was a bit of a pain in the ass... the cable going to the rear is alot thicker and longer than the one that comes with the blackvue series. I did manage to hide all the cabling as best as I could. Blackvue's app is also much much easier to use than the thinkware. firmware updates are silly as you have to connect the thinkware to a hotspot to get it.. easiest way i guess is to just put the firmware update on the sdcard. speaking of which, if your car has all the funky sensors nowadays then theres that huge contraption on the top center of your windshield... so for installation, the thinkware goes underneath it..BUT to remove the sdcard, you need to leave a good amount of space or it wont come out...because the sdcard slot is on the top of the thinkware unit. other issue is that the blackvue was a whole lot more sleeker and stealthy.... the F800 is black/silver... so its quite visible. wifi transfer of files to smartphone was super fast though which was great..otherwise quality was good too.. very crisp image quality. but i have to say the thinkware app is very clunky and kinda shitty. also the app has no LIVE view.. kinda shitty.. its more meant to line up the camera view.

I run my thinkware right against the headliner, I just remove the dashcam from the holder to remove the SD card. I agree that the app could be much better.

My car already has front and rear live view on the headunit, I wish the unit has 4G support, so I can watch my car while I am away.

Since my Jeep is broken I chucked the snow tires on in case it needs to pull winter duty, the oil cooler lines were in the way of the engine undertray so those got rerouted which of course made a big mess yet again.

Well, the Subaru I bought as a parts car is going back into service as a winter vehicle...

New winter tires, new wipers, oil change, coolant top up, deep clean of the interior, new stereo deck and spent some time trying (unsuccessfully) to find the trunk leak. Today I'll polish the headlights and it should be good to go for winter.

Film...$2 tinting film from China 1m x 30cm. Cut the shape and apply it like cell phone protective film
