LED headlight bulbs for the civic EX. (replaced the boring halogens)

now, the range is about the same as the halogens BUT the color/output is PURE white and significantly brighter.

10000lm, H11. (5000lm per side)

dat cutoff along the fence tho.

I find the old one isn't that bright, you search on ebay there are some "4-sides"bulbs out there. It is better if the color temperature is 5000k

something like this

LED replacement bulb vary in quality, while the OEM halogen reflector or projector is designed for halogen bulbs the hot spot has to be the same. Sadly a lot of LED bulbs have a vary amount of adjustments allowing them to be out of aligment with the reflector.

Luckily the latest civic has projector style lens... and yah, i find alot of LEDS just scattered light and looked like crap. this set I have now.. its acceptable until I find something better.

...DUH.. guess which side is the LED:

While projectors are better for cut-off and light output they can still vary. The reflector bowl within the projector can differ when using LED vs Halogen bulbs.

I took out the ebay fog lamps, replaced them with OEM fogs. Theyre like ten times brighter than the ebay ones.

New zip ties!

Clear lens fits in waaaay better with everything else. Also testing out my imported license plate lol

finally found an LED bulb that fits the 2016 civic brake light housing and lights up as bright as the regular halogen.

I got the civic tinted and the tint guy of course tinted over the rear center brake light... this totally dimmed the output of the halogen.

This LED is real bright and burns through that tint with no problem... previously, i've found that some LEDs didn't have the power to illuminate the entire brake light housing especially in the daytime. but these did great...

*i had to modify the one by unscrewing the top portion otherwise it would be too tall to fit into the brakelight housing. (it is 3 sided so it has a crap ton LEDs on 3 sides)

Previously I used what I thought was a powerful LED bulb but this pic shows otherwise:
**before it was tinted**

Here is regular halogen output **BEFORE TINT**

The nose-down stance of the '58 beetle has always bothered me. We attempted to correct it two years ago, in what is a relatively easy procedure, but could not get the torsion bar splines to break free. My buddy who works on classic Volkswagens full time has never seen one as stuck as mine was. Ugh. Finally decided on the weekend that I couldn't take it any longer, and it would need to be corrected.

In order to get enough leverage on the spring plates, to slide them outwards off the torsion bar splines, I needed to remove the fenders...

And then from there it was beat on the car with my 2.5lb sledge...when that didn't work, I tried the slide hammer. When that didn't work, I got to welding on some adapters. The passenger side came off with an adapter tack welded on in 6 places. The driver's side would not budge. Eventually I welded on an adapter for the slide hammer I machined from from 2.5" steel.

From there it's an easy task of moving the spring plate however many splines you want for the drop. Only problem is you need to know what spline the spring plates were on...and I couldn't mark them due to the welded on adapter. They also didn't come off easily, so I had to guess. My first guess was spot on...for putting the car back to the way it was before. Sigh. Back into the garage, and do it all over again! Goes much faster the second time, when everything is coated in a lot of anti-seize!

Stance is much better now...sorry the photo is lousy.

It's always an interesting feeling when you take something to an expert and they say they've never seen one as bad as yours.

Haha. Later conversations went something like this:

Me - "Hey, I'm flying to X for two or three weeks, if I drop the '58 off do you want to take care of lowering the rear for me? Paid of course."
Friend - "Hell no! Fix your own crap, I'm not taking that job on."
How you know it's going to be fun...

Yesterday I began collecting parts to produce a replica of perhaps the greatest beetle accessory I've ever seen. Last one to go up for sale was two years ago, for an asking price of $590usd. To say they are rare would be an understatement. Figure I'm better off making one.

Of course, I won't be happy unless mine is fully functional. Wonder how this will fare against the distracted driving law? :P

Unexpectedly replaced the timing belt and water pump on the RAV4...

Started off as a thermostat replacement but I snapped a stud for the thermostat housing luckily, it was a part of the water pump and not the block

Was holding off on doing the timing belt and water pump and tensioners until next year but it was honestly not that bad. Did the disassembly myself and a couple of buddies came by to help me finish it off

anyone have a problem with leaving a jug of used motor oil left outside and mice fucking stupid enough to bite the container?

that's the only reason i could think of why the entire thing is empty of used motor,or can oil can eat a thin plastic 4L milk jug ?

blower fan went..was ticking few days before it happened
took a few weeks to diagnose the problem and get parts shipped, should've just used logic instead of finding common problems others had (I was replacing the thermal cut-off/resistor first)
had to get it in asap as I had no defogger for the rain
at least I didn't have to cut the entire plastic piece holding the assembly in...who the hell designed that at Honda

Oil doesn't eat the milk jug. If mice nibbled it, which is entirely possible, then you'll see tell-tale teeth marks.

Just bad luck. I've never seen a blower fan go before, at worst just some extra noise from the bearing.
It is almost always the blower resistor.

They'll do that, a mouse got into the oil change place my friend works at once and made a huge mess chewing into bottles of oil.
