No one wants to play in edm besides people that grew up there, but there's a pretty loyal and big fanbase there. Moving would seem pretty retarded.. |

The Oilers aren't moving. Don't be silly. |
He's just playing hardball with the city so they cough up the cash. Smart move no questions asked. |

The city should call the Oilers' bluff of moving. If I'm reading the article right the Oilers are contracted to 5.5M/yr to operate the arena, and they are asking taxpayers for an additional 6M to offset operational costs...wtf. They want the city to raise their committed 125M for the new arena to 300M+. The Oilers sell out $$ tickets regularly in Edmonton with lots in merchandising and concessions, let the owner take the risk of moving to a non-established non-traditional market and see how often they can sell out on $30-50 tickets. It's not like there's a shortage of financially burdened teams that wouldn't welcome a move to Edmonton should the Oilers leave. |

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Oh God, Cloutier........................ |

I dont get it. To me this seems like the translink situation in vancouver. if I was a Eskimos (assuming eskimos dont play inside Rexall) fan in Edmonton why the heck should I pay for a new hockey arena that i'll never get to sit inside of? It doesn't make sense. Why can't the ownership build an arena and lease it out to the city? Why must tax payers foot private profits? The only way I would be ok with building a new arena is if I as an Edmonton resident received some sort of concession on ticket prices for helping build the joint. maybe i'm misunderstanding this whole thing. |
