This season was a complete write off for me before it even started, looks like the Canuck's are mailing it in and writing it off as well.

This team needs an offensive reload for the second line and a new system from a new coach. A skilled centre with the tenacity of Johnny Canuck:

I'm not quite as bad as you, but I have not been to any open/closed practices or skills competition, which I go to every year. I used to rush home to watch the games. Now I don't bother. Nobody in my family watches anymore.

Thread title reminds me of that fricken lockout bullshit........

Discovered there are way better things in life than watching highly paid players who don't want to play with any passion.

That's cuz Kesler's been injured so often the past while. He's always doing public appearances!

kristianhay 03-18-2013 09:12 AM

Schroeder back up. Hopefully he gets quality minutes as opposed to fourth line minutes. He had 4 points in 3 games down with the Wolves so, maybe he's feeling a bit more confident. Glad we didn't decide to call up Jensen instead.

CKWX has learned that the #Canucks have re-called forward Jordan Schroeder after injuries to Kassian, Booth and Kesler.

#Wolves gm Wendell Young sasy #Canucks #1draft pick Nicklas Jensen has played well but not ready for big league call-up just yet.

Ronin 03-18-2013 09:21 AM

Jensen will probably get a call-up sometime this season just for a look.

Fucking Kesler better get his shit together. He's getting an 'oft-injured' label.

Wish ours would be in Abbotsford instead :P

Broken foot isn't really his fault, but yeah he's becoming a bit of a bandaid.

Further news, Canucks sign prospect Ludwig Blomstrand. Good name at least.

Quote:

http://vansunsportsblogs.com/2013/03...ig-blomstrand/

According to Swedish website Aftonbladet, the Vancouver Canucks have signed their 4th round draft pick from 2011, Ludwig Blomstrand, to a 3-year entry-level contract. The 20-year-old will reportedly be flying to Vancouver either today or Saturday and will likely report to the Chicago Wolves.

Like Nicklas Jensen, Blomstrand’s season in Sweden is done, as his club, Almtuna, failed to make the playoffs in the Allsvenskan. At 6’2″ and 218 lbs, Blomstrand has the size for North American hockey and the defensive ability to get in Alain Vigneault’s good books. He also has an awesome name, which immediately puts him in my good books.

When Blomstrand was drafted, Laurence Gilman described him as “very much like Jannik Hansen.” Considering how Hansen has developed to become a legitimate offensive threat and is currently third in scoring with the Canucks, that’s high praise. Maybe a little too high, as Gilman wasn’t necessarily speaking of his offensive upside: “He’s a tremendous skater who plays with some level of tenacity. We think he can be a solid two-way guy in the NHL.”

Still, that’s the type of player that immediately endears himself to both Vigneault as a coach and Canucks fans in general. Also, his most recent season in Sweden suggested that there is some potential offensive ability to his game.

Blomstrand started the season in Djurgården, where he received limited ice time despite putting up 31 points in 45 games in the previous season with their Under-20 team. 14 games in, however, he was traded to the struggling Almtuna, where things quickly turned around. He played on the first line for Almtuna and started scoring, finishing with 13 goals in 30 games for the club.
Among players younger than 24, that placed Blomstrand 7th in the league in goalscoring. Not bad for a player described as having limited offensive upside.

According to the magic of Google Translate, Blomstrand is pretty excited to sign with the Canucks. “But I do not know what the contract means, the salary is or so. But money does not matter in this situation. This was a boyhood dream and it’s really great,” he told Aftonbladet.

Hilariously, the morning show guys on the Team 1040, Scotty Rintoul and Jason Botchford, had no idea who Blomstrand was, speculating that he was an undrafted Swedish free agent and “the next Fabian Brunnstrom.” Not their finest hour.
For a better idea of what type of player he is, here’s a highlight video from his 2012-13 season in the Allsvenskan. According to the uploader, Blomstrand is #21 with Djurgården for the first 35 seconds of the video, then #23 with Almtuna for the rest of the video:

From these highlights, Blomstrand appears to be a very strong skater who isn’t afraid to go to the net. He frequently sets up in front of the net to screen the goaltender, pick up rebounds, and tip-in shots from the point and has soft enough hands that he is able to finish fairly well.

He’s also capable of some highlight reel plays: his goal at 4:16 of the video is unreal, as he cuts inside a defender, gets tripped, and still manages to slide the puck past the goaltender on his belly. If he can be a solid third-line defensive forward in the NHL who occasionally contributes a goal, the Canucks will be thrilled.

murd0c 03-18-2013 09:40 AM

Interesting I haven't heard about him either until now. I heard on 1040 today we are ranked 29 our of 30 in the league for prospects so we better start having these guys do something in Chicago.

411ken 03-18-2013 09:42 AM

I wonder when or where Andrej Sustr will sign.. 6'8 and 218lbs RH Defenseman..

Kellan Lain choose Canucks over 3 other teams. Will report to Chicago | The Province

And the label matters why? It's not like MG is looking to move Kesler, if he was he would have done it this past offseason before his no-trade kicked in.

I hope you're not expecting Kesler to get back to his 40 goal 'form', because that 1 season was an exception to his norm. Those who feel that 25-30 goals a season from him would be a disappointment are going to be in for a rough ride
