Who cares about winning more games. We got president trophy twice, but still have no cup.

I've been thinking about Schultz and trying to justify to myself why its good we didn't get him. The one thing that resounds to me is that we would have had to keep 3.8M in cap space for him even though his salary is only 9xxK; so essentially he costs the team 3.8M x 2yrs regardless of what he is actually paid. 3.8M gets you a pretty serviceable defence man who is already proven; 0.75M more gets you a dman like Bieksa or Hamhuis. Sure Schultz has tons of upside, but for the short term and now, its not a huge loss that we didnt get him IMO.

That's not really the problem..it's not like Bieksas and Hamhuis's are readily available on the market. 26-something teams were gunning for Schultz because good dmen don't grow on trees.

It'll have been justified that it's good we didn't get him if/when he proves to be a shit NHLer. Odds are he's going to do good and will have been easily worth the (very small) risk and cap space. I don't think he's going to flourish in Edmonton's system though.

Watching those Schroeder and Connauton highlights got me stoked, both look really promising

I'm not saying to go lose games. I'm saying having our goaltending tandem isn't going to help win any cups,
so keeping Luongo is pretty pointless for a serious cup run. We can win more regular season games though... if that's what you really care about.

According to Capgeek, Canucks have 19 players signed with ~10.5m in cap space.

Luongo & Ballard's cap hit comes at 5.33m & 4.2m. That's 20m in potential cap space that we have to play with tomorrow. :eek5r:
