Garrison can play big minutes.

In the series against the Devils he played 22, 24 and 20 minutes in the first three games.Injured than played 33 in game 7. Mind you that game went into double OT.

It is a risk signing him long term like that based on one good year, but risk-reward I suppose.

Although I'm happy to see Garrison a Canuck... Sami Salo's been a hell of a d-man for a long time for the team....

:lol

Salo retiring my ass..I guess TB is the place for soon-to retirees.

Especially a defenseman.

I appreciate that people are willing to take a pay cut to work in Vancouver, but man it really rubs me the wrong way when MG brings it up every time he signs a FA

krazynuck 07-01-2012 07:59 PM

it is just nice to see a guy on our team that has some weight on him...last season at a time the heaviest player was lu

dbaz 07-01-2012 08:08 PM

still thought we could have used whitney. oh well. nj finally offered 2 year deal to marty

rsx 07-01-2012 08:10 PM

4.6 was frenzy price, I think. Canucks overpaid a bit.

cliffhanger33 07-01-2012 08:12 PM

Yeeeee just heard the news about garrison

5-6 million is what other teams were offering him. Probably longer term too.

pastarocket 07-01-2012 08:22 PM

Garrison has a cannon of a slap shot. -definitely a point man on the PP.

Garrison > Ballard? :considered:

d1 07-01-2012 08:24 PM

With all these over priced contracts, Edler would want $6m and Burrows $4+ by the time they re-sign.

Discounted when compared to his other offers and signing prices today. You also forget cap is now $70M.

may be small and 40 but could have been the only player who thinks pass first besides hank on the canucks. kesler and booth need that on the second line because everyone knows those 2 wont pass lol

Vansterdam 07-01-2012 09:13 PM

Edler is no where close to being a $6M player. If we resign him it'll be no more than what KB3 is getting.

spideyv2 07-01-2012 09:45 PM

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Booth-Kesler-*insert top 6 forward*
Higgins-Lapierre-Hansen
Volpatti-Malhotra-Kassian

Hamhuis-Bieksa
Edler-Garrison
Ballard-Tanev

Schneider
Lack

I think this is what the line up will look like when everyone is healthy this season. Lapierre was pretty efficient as a third line centre during our 2011 cup run. IMO, Kassian splits time moving up and down our line up, and playing top minutes in the AHL this season.

Ronin 07-01-2012 09:59 PM

Canucks need upgrades at forward. Lapierre is best as a 4th line center with Malhotra so they can alternate sides on faceoffs and generally be an amazing shutdown line. We need someone that's more of a 2-way forward than Lappy, as much as I love the way that guy plays.

They need to clear Lu and Ballard and bring in a top-6 forward, a 3rd line center and another solid 18 minute defenseman, preferably another offensive defenseman, freeing up Hammer/Juice to play shutdown let's-get-angry-and-hit-everything.

kwy 07-01-2012 10:06 PM

Hammer will never hit like he used to, thanks to those injuries he took hip checking Lucic during the finals. He said so himself, he avoids hip checking because it can hurt you just as much as it can hurt the guy getting hit. Juice isn't really a big hitter, and isn't that big of a guy.

vyrospec 07-01-2012 10:24 PM

gonna miss Salo in vancity, not just his howitzer shots but a gtr driver i heard.

but time to turn page, welcome garrison

spideyv2 07-01-2012 10:28 PM

Hopefully Connauton can make the jump this season. Connauton-Tanev looks like a decent pairing.

odd move, because Salo has stated his family loves it in Vancouver and he plans to stay. I guess the $$ talks, but that is pretty good

Its gonna be a shooting gallery in TB on the PP with Stamkos and St.Louis. DAYAM!!!

Also helps that his earnings in the state of Florida will be tax free as well.

Mike Oxbig 07-02-2012 12:14 AM
