We're gonna have to send an impact forward if we want it to happen, period.

And I think its pretty obvious why the Sedins are playing amazing at the IIHF World Champs. Its two different styles of play. They have more space to work with all around the ice, cycling is much easier because the opposition normally has to collapse, leaving the points open. The PK is miles behind the NHL, there's much more room behind the net, the Sedins are left alone there and have all the time in the world to do whatever the hell they want..

Finland - Sweden 0-3 - YouTube

1:10 is the perfect example from today

In the playoffs the Sedins are getting hacked, slashed, and pressured every single shift... they can't cycle the puck because they are getting bodied, and need to rely on their strength MUCH more which is not their game...

Errikson is a pretty slick winger though.. I must agree, but most players would have scored from those feeds from the Sedins anyways..

tl;dr
different play styles
IIHF play benefits and is catered towards the way the Sedins play which is why they are looking so good

Different officiating styles you mean ;) NHL is a joke. Rules change from period to period. Why the fuck is the OT a 5 vs 5 in the playoffs compared to a 4 vs 4 in the regular season?? Why does the rule book change once playoffs start?

Patrick Roy to be named the Avs new coach.

Quote:

Patrick Roy will be new Colorado Avalanche coach, brother says - The Denver Post

Patrick Roy will be the next coach of the Avalanche, according to Roy's brother, Stephane.

"They're discussing the final details of an arrangement. Colorado is going to be very happy. Patrick is looking for a new challenge," said Stephane Roy, the younger brother of his famous sibling.

The Avalanche would not confirm a deal is in place. Patrick Roy could not be reached for comment, and neither could Avalanche vice president of hockey operations Joe Sakic.

Stephane Roy, who played briefly in the NHL, posted on his Facebook page Monday night, "For all my friends I'd like you to know before the official news spreads that my older brother will be the new coach of the Colorado Avalanch(sic)."

Reached on the phone in Quebec, Stephane Roy confirmed he made the Facebook posting and reiterated to The Denver Post his belief that Patrick would succeed Joe Sacco as Avs coach.

Roy, 47, has coached the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League since 2005, compiling a 307-128-32 record, including a Memorial Cup championship.

Roy has a home in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Stephane Roy said Sakic has been there for the last few days.

"People in Quebec will be sad again that my brother is leaving for Denver," Stephane Roy said. "But he has always loved Denver too, and wants the new challenge of going back to his old team."

Do you even watch these hockey games?

It doesn't matter if there are different officiating styles, its different styles of play, period.

Get ready for some temper tantrums from behind the Avalanche bench.

Patrick Roy is a hothead. -One heck of an all-star goalie, with a bad temper.

There's already a debate in Colorado over whether Roy is the right coach for the team:

Patrick Roy the Wrong Choice for Avalanche Head Coach | ProSportsColorado.com

From the article: Roy is severely lacking in coaching experience at any level, though. He successfully coached the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to a Memorial Cup title in 2006 – his first season as a head coach. The rest of Patrick’s time in Quebec was marred with violence on and off the ice, and he never duplicated the success he had as a rookie coach.

Most jarring is Patrick’s handling of his two sons while he was their coach in Quebec. In 2008 Roy seemingly ordered his son – the starting goalie for the Remparts – to charge across the ice during a 7-1 playoff loss and beat the hell out of the opposing goaltender. Jonathan Roy fought another opponent that night before being removed and eventually suspended for five games.
Early the next season son Frederick was suspended 15 games for a cross-check to the head of an opponent while playing for his father. Roy himself was broadly criticized in January of 2007 for an alleged fist-fight with the co-owner of another QMJHL team outside of an arena.
The question then becomes – even before questions about Patty’s ability to coach at the NHL level – can Roy lead a pro hockey team without losing his temper or, worse, inciting his players to lose theirs?

well, when you're in the position colorado is atm, i think it's worth a shot. hot temper or not, he's a living NHL legend and a proven winner. At the very least, he can give their younger players some good insight into what it takes to succeed in the league.

true, but aside from winning the memorial cup with his first coaching gig,
he's been a hot head with officials, management and players as well
so hopefully, he doesn't do the wrong thing with this young team.

Like 99? a good player doesn't correlate to a good coach lol.

kwy 05-21-2013 12:16 PM

He himself was fiercely competitive as a player, and would do anything to win. It's a quality that's hard to inspire in other people. Some players are great on the ice but awful behind the bench. I get the feeling that his style of coaching isn't going to work out too well with a very young and undisciplined Avs team..

7seven 05-21-2013 12:19 PM

All I know is that I'll be looking forward to Torts vs Roy press conferences

bballguy 05-21-2013 12:22 PM

Patrick Roy is not yet the new head coach of the Colorado Avalanche and talk of a deal being done is "premature," according to RDS' Renaud Lavoie....have to wait until we see something a little more official before jumping to any conclusions.

This is the very definition of Wayne Gretzky.

kwy 05-21-2013 12:25 PM

And Michael Jordan.

Mike Oxbig 05-21-2013 12:33 PM

It could work well with the Canucks, tough guy behind the bench :fullofwin:

For some reason I have a stupid feeling that AV isn't going to get fired....

Mike Oxbig 05-21-2013 12:52 PM

Im ok with AV stepping down to assistance coach and hire tippet as Head coach. Tippet knows the pacific division inside out, if we dont do anything we are in big trouble next year.

And how do you manage to do that?

We'll also be playing a defensive game. And I remember not too long ago how fans were crying for a more offensively minded team.

punkwax 05-21-2013 01:10 PM

I'm an AV suporter but there is no way he is here next season. MG wants to create a new image and you can't do that with the same coach.
