Had all 4 of mine taken out at once. Like some other people, mine weren't bothering me at that time but getting it done sooner is better for the healing process.
My appointment was at 10am, got there and was briefed on what was going to happen etc. They then put some powdered stuff on my tongue and just told me to relax and they would check up on me later. Every 10-15mins or so they would come by and ask if I was feeling tired, and every single time I said no and they would walk away. After awhile of me saying no, and thinking why the hell am I just lying here, I said yes a little bit. Then they prepped for the extractions and used needles to freeze my mouth. After some more waiting, for the numbing to kick in, they started on the teeth. I guess I was fortunate that the teeth were not coming in crocked so for all 4 of them(2 were showing, 2 were partially showing), so the process of the extraction was really easy. The whole time I could feel what was going on in my mouth sans the pain. I could feel them loosening each tooth and pulling them out. I could feel the roots breaking free from the surrounding skin, kind of like when you pull weeds out of the garden and you hear the roots getting pulled apart. After all was said and done, I had a shit load of gauze in my mouth and was drooling all over the place since my mouth was still a bit numb and I had no control over keeping my mouth closed.
The time was now around noon when I got out of there. Numbing wore off mid afternoon and by 7pm I was eating burgers and ribs. There was no swelling, no chipmunk cheeks, nothing. I guess I was lucky? The only thing I felt was that my mouth was sore from being open the whole operation. The next day I was back at school as if nothing ever happened. You do need to get used to the "holes" at the back of your mouth though, sometimes I'd be chewing and food would go back there and I'd have to use my tongue to push it back to the front so I could chew it some more, haha.

Just got back from the check. Dentist says all 4 of my wisdom teeth are growing perfectly straight and won't bump into the other teeth and cause problems.

so i got mine done today !
took about 40 mins to take both out. I had to get multiple injections inside my cheeks to make sure i was numb enough because after 2 injections on each cheek, i still had feelings.
The whole process was good, just some snapping and cracking sounds thats all.
my face is still numb as i am typing this and i can't even speak !
Dr Chau in richmond is a young fella in his mid 30s i am guessing and was quite nice. He explained everything before and during the surgery.
I would reccomend him to if you guys choose to do it in richmond.
Total was $432 for each tooth so $864 for both and i am hoping my UBC dental plan covers half of it.
thanks for all the replies guys
i was super prepared when i got there after reading through all the responses

You claim it via your medical plan. Quote:

Just a hint.. if you get it done at a hospital.. ie totally under.. it is free. However it takes longer to schedule as it takes place at a hospital etc etc. and not that many dental surgeons have hospital privileges. Quote:

i wanted all 4 done at the same time without being put under but my doctor said he would have to refer me to a specialist if i wanted all 4 done at the same time cause he dosen't want to risk it being infected and would prob have to do it at a hospital.. and then he told me being put under is like 1000$ last time he checked lol wtf? i should be covered somewhat under my medical plan minus the sleeping gas which i thought would be like 3-400$
he then told me he could do it himself if i take 2 out at a time so the healing process takes longer but i donno, i kinda want to take all 4 out so i dont have to deal with it twice
he also told me specialists charge a bit more then regulars dentists
does all that sound about right?
i need to take my wisdom out soon got em growing crooked and shit |

I had mine taken out by a dental surgeon in White Rock. Was just about 20 years ago so I don't remember that much about it, except for one embarrassing detail.
The assistant that put me in the room and started me on the gas was a cute blonde.. about the last thing I remember before passing out while high as a kite was telling her I wanted to bone her. To top it off, after the surgery, I had to do the whole walk of shame out past her at the reception desk.
Other than that, the surgery was fine |

Specialists charge more if they perform the work in their own offices. However they get paid the same if they are working at a hospital since it is public. There are more support people around at hospitals vs a private clinic. However again not all dental surgeons have access to hospitals.. so you have ask around. Obviously any dentists / specialists / surgeons want to work privately since they get the bulk of the profits.
I think if you want to do all 4 at the same time you have to be put under. Quote:

update: bleeding had stopped as of today. I kept bleeding yesterday night no matter how many times i rinsed with ice cold water. I ended up placing small napkins in my mouth because i used up all my gauzes. I surrounded myself with towels and clipped a towel to my shirt so i don't drool all over.
It was a breeze because the napkin in my mouth soaked up all the blood and i did not drool at all.
when i woke up today, bleeding had stopped.

I had my two top ones taken out a couple of years ago. I wasn't under, just had the local anesthetic. Couldn't really feel anything but I could tell my dentist was pulling pretty bloody hard. Kind of got me worried, but couldn't feel when they came out, just that she stopped pulling. Didn't exactly enjoy it but it wasn't all that bad. The holes it left felt pretty cool though. They closed up within a couple of months.

Getting 4 removed in November, and 2 of them have to be surgically extracted 'cause they're still under my gums. Sounds fuckin terrifying lol

money grab for dentists. Mine told me I had to extract them right away. What do you know, a year later my bottom wisdoms havn't even come out, the top poked out a bit but stopped growing. Same as my mother's and a few friends I know, Their top poked out and never grew again. Even if it did grow, I have lots of space for them to fit. Hate trusting dentists!

depends if they come out straight or at an angle. if angled even slightly i believe it can cause impact with your teeth which is not good. i only had 3 so i saved the fee for pulling 1
i did it when i had to get braces and remove extra teeth from crowding. so i had 9 taken out in 1 sitting by a specialist
the doctor: you know 9 is a lot and might be painful...you wanna do it in 2 appointments?
me: will i feel the same pain twice? - yes you will....
me: will i have to pay the anaesthesia fee twice? - yes you will...
me: i'll do it all at once
