Finally got my bike back together and on the road after 6 months on my lift. Tranny is rebuilt with Baker parts and new exhaust is deep but I definitely need a tune. Booked a tune with Lonewolf in Nanaimo, he's known to be a guru with Harley Twin Cams. ICBC rates have sure gone down - between my basic and Guardian 3rd party I paid $1800 for 8 months of road (and 1 year of Guardian). Insured on Saturday and it was under $1100 with everything through ICBC. Bike season is here again! |
Hey guys, super new to the motorcycle scene... just bought a 2005 GSXR 600 I live close to Burnaby city hall, any local mechanic that you guys recommend for general maintenance? |
burnaby kawasaki has always have had great service... but yes u do ride a GSXR there are some smaller shops. since you have a 16+ yr old bike, just take it once for general maintainence tune up and then rest (oil change) u can do urself (assuming u can take off fairing). call around, find a good mechanic and ask for a good diagnostic / tune up. i know this is out of the way, but vancouver, SE / SW marine drive, and Oak, there is a very good reliable mechanic. i have to google up his / her name.. |
No reason why Burnaby Kawasaki can't service the GSXR. They have a good service team. Imperial Motorcycles is also a good alternative, albeit closer to Metrotown. |
Many dealers do not touch bikes over 10 years old anymore, you need to find an Indie mechanic. This is largely due to their 'techs' being more of bolt-on and warranty repair monkey. |
Looks like the Honda Monkey is coming to Canada. Seeing a few dealers take deposit. Anyone going to get one? I'm kinda tempted but that price.... |
For that price, you can get a motorcycle with a larger engine! I think it would be good in the city, but this one is an odd one. |
^ according to The Adventurists a Monkey is good anywhere https://www.theadventurists.com/adve.../monkey-run/#4 |

Looking to get or order the Yamaha R3 electric teal Anyone have dealer recommendations? Looking to get a deal and good customer service to a noobie, online has pretty mixed reviews. |
For Yamaha, I have shopped at Pacific Motosports, but that was well over 15 years ago (I feel so old.) It looks like they don't sell motorcycles anymore, but I could be wrong. Otherwise, I've had good experiences for Yamaha at Daytona Motorsports in Vancouver over the years. They've been friendly and helpful to me for a combination of parts, service, and bikes. I personally would not hesitate to buy from them again. Book an appointment in advance with their sales team and I think they'll take good care of you. Unfortunately, my go-to sales rep had retired a year ago. I've heard great things about GA Checkpoint but no experience myself. Was there a particular dealership you're weary of or thinking of going to? |
I'm in the car business myself so I would look out for just price and customer service as key points. Understandably I will be looking at the 2021 R3 new so I know it won't be some super smoking deal but at least enticing enough. Thanks for the input Dukes, I'll call around and see what they're willing to do |
Price wise, for an in-year model, might be tough to wiggle. If price is the bottom line, then I would just buy from whoever gives you the lowest cost. Want to buy my Ducati Montser 696 instead? hahaha You'll get the best price for sure :D |
True that, just call them all and be the dick that asks for best price LOL. Thanks for the offer duke but that's too much power for me as a noob |

Let us know how it goes! |
By chance does anyone know Jonathan Ting @ High Road BMW Ducati? He was a service advisor there who was really good to deal with. I tried e-mailing him but his e-mail bounced back. |

Is there anything in particular that you're looking for? I can pass on the message and see if he can reccommend someone at High Road. Sent from my SM-G781W using Tapatalk |

I was simply looking to arrange for parts and service on my Ducati and possibly discuss picking up an R Nine T from them but with COVID, no rush. I have a good business relationship with their sales manager, but Jonathan was awesome when it came to arranging service for me. |
Ended up picking up the new 2021 R3 in Electric Teal at Holeshot, sales guy didn't want to budge on the price because he told me he knew the supply this year is lower due to COVID and hence everyone is holding onto theirs this season meaning 2nd hand market is also low. He didn't even want to budge on the 2020 silver one they had in stock other than the $600 rebate from Yamaha Finally got him to give me a $100 gift card to use there for anything, which is good because I will want to order the R6 throttle tubes anyways for shorter throw |
Congrats! Did you shop around? I've had mixed experience with Holeshot but others love them. It's been a tough year or two for the motorcycle industry. Not a lot of used inventory either. |

The experience was passable I would say because I got the younger sales guy (Josh). The others were all older guys, I'm sure they would not entertain me if I were their customer. |
Cool! Did they deliver the bike to you? Or did you go pick it up? |

So, how was the 2021 season, gents? Any interesting outtakes for 2022? I'm itching to add a Thruxton R to my collection but the bike and car market is too crazy. :okay: |
