P.s. must join royal vancouver yacht club now. thats one posh ass club full of old money and its sooooooooo nice. Tiny can get used to it.
You also picked a great day to go out as well. Nippy, but it's always beautiful after a good rainfall.

I'd love to move back to be closer to my parents as they get older but I'm at like... $290K income right now and I still don't think I can afford to live in Vancouver (for the size of property that I would want). If I had to live in like Coquitlam, it's totally not the same to me and frankly, I would rather live in a Toronto suburb, keeping my higher pay, than to take a pay cut and live in Coquitlam, Surrey, New West, etc.
I'm thinking about making that move to increase pay but I feel like the cost of living atm in Toronto would be similar to Vancouver but I'd be carless and roommating to afford DT.

You do what you have to do. I admire people who have the strength to pursue their goals and throw trivial things like aesthetics, weather, and other amenities out the door.

Toronto might not be as pretty, or as livable as Vancouver, but if your goal is to become more financially independent then you might have to suck it up and move there.

North American runs on east coast time. Nobody caters towards west coast schedules (unless your business is only locally based). All my meetings are based on east coast time frames because they are the economic center and that should tell you where the money is.

P.s. just dont move to quebec. those separatist bastards!!! fuck them and their stupid language laws.

Yeah rents have soared everywhere now so it's a little crazy. I will say that I had an absolute blast living in downtown Toronto in my mid-late 20s to the point that I actually wish I tried to make it into U of T for undergrad.

On a serious note, I don't enjoy living in Toronto, but moving here really helped me achieve three things:

1. Grow the fuck up (arguable)
2. Buy my own place
3. Be financially ahead (subjective - whatever this even means)

I don't have a GT3 or a $5M home, but thinking about at how long I stayed in Vancouver, things would be a lot different and I'd be living in the past.

Having said that, a few thoughts when I come back to Vancouver:

1. I miss my friends (you guys know who you are)
2. Life slows down a bit. It's a very different pace of life
3. The opportunities are not as abundant as compared to Toronto and you are competing with fewer people for these high paying jobs

If I were to move back, I'd likely end up working at Home Depot, and that's even if they'll accept me.

I get shaky when I'm in Vancouver because like a drug addict, I miss the rush of a fast paced working environment.

Lol, I feel the same way... I was a fuckin bum in Vancouver. I think I was making like 40K before I left, living at home, not doing shit. Crazy how things change just from a change of scenery.

I still make $40K

But yeah, Vancouver is nice but I got comfortable and I needed a change of scenery. I still enjoy visiting my friends and family but if it weren't for them, I'd probably be like whatevs.

I don't know why but in the chinese circle, you keep hearing these sleazy scams coming out of toronto. Pretty sure it happens here but less frequently or all the chinese are so rich and don't fall for the scams.

How did you find Bamfield, is it worth a visit, or pretty much the same vibe as Ucluelet?

I've never actually been to Ucluelet, but I imagine it's a lot more busy since it's easily accessible. Bamfield has a permanent resident population of 176, Ucluelet, north of 2000.

Oh I've been going every summer for the last 10 or so years.
And before that it was a family camping destination for a bunch of years in early/mid 90's.

Needless to say, I love that place.

Yeah there's definitely pros and cons to anywhere you choose to live but that's what life is all about. If everything went perfectly, life would feel pretty boring and unfulfilling. I've officially given up on pursuing housing in Vancouver. My goals in life fall into the atypical sector, which is why I'm looking at detached houses for sale in other provinces. With how much I've saved over the years in an attempt to pursue RE in Vancouver, I can easily get a nice sizeable house with land and space in AB (looking at Red Deer).

I was born in Vancouver and my roots are here but I get one life on this planet. May as well make it worth it.

$40k a year or $20/hour

If anyone makes that in Vancouver they surely live at home or have cheap ass rent (<$1,000). You can't even afford to own a house/condo with $40k: property tax, maintenance, etc.

You would need a dual income for sure if that's what you made in Vancouver. Pretty sad.
