we have a grow tent in one of our spare rooms with strong lights, but either we started stuff too late (i didn't think so), or we fucked up with transplanting too late because everything is so small still. seed starting in a greenhouse is goals for us. absolutely hate the mess all the potting up and transplanting makes in a bedroom... need to do that somewhere where i can make a mess and it doesnt matter.

Growing hydroponically is such a pain in the ass.

One year I grew 3 plants in my den, never again. Having to check PH balance on the daily, having to adjust, ensure my den didn't get too hot during the summer with the damn lights, it's all very finicky and demands a high amount of attention.

If you grow, do it in dirt, much easier.

That’s why a lot of the boutique home growers for weed have all switched over to no-till organic.

None of this fucking around, if you’ve got decent water, you almost don’t have to worry about anything else

FWIW a part of my company focuses on agricultural tech. The plant team invited the entire company to come and do some seedings on April 11th and on April 29th they sent another email asking us to pick up our plants for transplanting - especially corn, cucumbers, and peas.

I believe they were in growth chambers for those two weeks though, which might explain why they were ready for transplanting so soon.

what about aquaponics?
hydroponics but using a fish tank as the water source which has nutrients left by the fish. but then again running a fish tank can be quite the balance as well with pH and nitrate monitoring, but you'd think plants will help with that.

The joy's of owning a house.

Our gas heater MIGHT have just kicked the bucket, if not on it's last legs. It turned off in failsafe last night. We tried lighting it this morning and flames spewed out the sides of the firebox. Our handyman said we might be able to remedy it with a clean and tune up. But it's a 34 year old hydronic system and we probably only got a few years before the boiler needs to be swapped out anyways, the damn thing is hugely inefficient.

This might be a better $3M Calgary house that's not far from anything My best friend lives in Bears Paw and it's super close to amenities and public transit to downtown.

It's pretty frickin unique that's for sure... what an interesting place lol

^holy crap! what a bargain for a gorgeous house...

that pool isn't deep enough for my liking, and I'm not sure what I would do with a tennis court indoors besides hire a bunch of sluts to watch them play tennis naked.

When your house is 5000+ sq ft, you can afford to waste space.

When you realize you can live like a fucking king in Calgary instead of an east van house that was previously purchased by some fob lady who used to push dim sum carts in the 90s…

I dunno, those houses seem pretty small for the amount of land they have, you have like 1-10 acres and your house is only 4000sq? The East Van shack is already that size once you add up all the basement and lane way. And that's on like what? 4000sq of land?

They must not measure the basement or something, cuz the listings says 4000sq then on the floorplan or descriptions there are like over 6000sq of living space

AB is the only province that does not include the basement in the measurement. It's all about accuracy & transparency.

All the wonky angles and dead space make it look super awkward to me despite being massive, but that's personal taste I guess. I get when they have to do that to work around a mountain or something but this is for no reason.

It's also weird that there's no stovetop in the main kitchen? Having to go through the laundry room to the "servery" just to use a pot and pan seems wack.

The 22 light switches at the front door is a nice touch though lol.

I think Saskatchewan doesn't either, I've looked at RE there like donk has as an investment and the Regina properties never include the basement... got so confused why every house was like 1,200 sq ft or less despite having 2 full floors lol

3M can buy you a mansion but it can't buy you energy / the people around you

FWIW I'd be in LA, Scottsdale, Miami, or have a buncha different spots for that price.

I'm really curious about this because we have a similar system. We have a hot water boiler with hydronic baseboards. The alternative would be to install heat pumps with mini split systems and you would get AC in the summer months, but is it really worth the cost versus replacing the boiler?

Did you do any sort of cost comparison?
