Thanks everyone. I'll just pay it now so I don't have to worry about it again. |
Has anyone switched over to the BC Hydro Tiered rate time of day pricing? I just started it recently, so far it's beneficial for charging my Tesla's at night. And with smart appliances at home, they're all timed to started at the reduced rate after 11pm |
^^ so you run the oven, washing machine, AC, heater, vacuums only after 11 pm  |
Maybe he’s a night owl. |

Maybe if you get solar+ some sort of power wall and you can charge it at night for your daytime use then $$$ profit? |

So far, from the BC Hydro estimate, I'm seeing about 15% reduction in monthly estimates across the board relative to prior the switch. Changes made were, of course, the EV charging switched to after 11. I have my thermostat set to stop the AC between 4-9... well, more like fully on between 12-4 making the temperature to drop below what I usually set it to (24, I have it lowered to 22) so that it doesn't need to switch back on during the 4-9 period. Also have it set so that the water pump of the pool doesn't circulate during 4-9 as well as turning on the dishwasher only after 11. Honestly, I think the new tiered rate is great for people who have EV and can plan the usage accordingly since it's impossible to keep it to tier 1 rate with an EV. With the fact that I could switch my most power-hungry usage to off-peak, going even below the original tier1 rate, the saving is quite substantial. |
I looked into it and I don't gain much if at all with the tiered rates. We aren't going to do our laundry overnight and we would be in bed by 11pm. Yes we have a PHEV but we don't even have a level 2 charger because most of the time we don't need it. But it also means it's plugged in whenever it's home and we can't/won't wait until night time. |
I’ve talked to people at hydro and one guy who has 2 Teslas figured he still wasn’t coming out ahead due to his heat pump and other things required to be running during the day due to having kids. Said it’s a very fine line to making it work the way it’s currently structured and for most people, you’ll be paying more |
da fuck? dont you people own multi million dollar homes? who gives a shit about hydro costs. i dont even look at my bill, it just goes to my CC Quote:

Makes about as much sense as me looking to buy a bug out boat and paying 6k to moor it. |
Savings = money you didn't need to, or have to spend, and money you end up keeping (normal people) Savings = spend money (Badhobz logic) :lol |
