The COV website says 5% late penalty, but I can't find more information on it. Like is it 5% APR, or is it 5% no matter how late it is?

My parents forgot to pay their property tax, so i'm trying to figure out if we should pay it asap like right now, or just wait since they'll be assessed the 5% regardless, so just hold onto the money. I know it says if you don't pay by December, you will go to collections.

Does anyone know?

5% no matter how late you are. It will remain at 5% until Dec 31st and if you let it role over into the new year then it'll start accruing daily interest. I forget how much the daily is though. So pay it now pay it 4 months from now same amount.

Thanks everyone. I'll just pay it now so I don't have to worry about it again.

Has anyone switched over to the BC Hydro Tiered rate time of day pricing?

I just started it recently, so far it's beneficial for charging my Tesla's at night. And with smart appliances at home, they're all timed to started at the reduced rate after 11pm

JDMDreams 07-14-2024 09:52 AM

^^ so you run the oven, washing machine, AC, heater, vacuums only after 11 pm

Funny enough I am working night shifts at the moment, from 8pm to 3am :lawl:

JDMDreams 07-14-2024 05:12 PM

Maybe if you get solar+ some sort of power wall and you can charge it at night for your daytime use then $$$ profit?

I switched.

So far, from the BC Hydro estimate, I'm seeing about 15% reduction in monthly estimates across the board relative to prior the switch.

Changes made were, of course, the EV charging switched to after 11. I have my thermostat set to stop the AC between 4-9... well, more like fully on between 12-4 making the temperature to drop below what I usually set it to (24, I have it lowered to 22) so that it doesn't need to switch back on during the 4-9 period.

Also have it set so that the water pump of the pool doesn't circulate during 4-9 as well as turning on the dishwasher only after 11.

Honestly, I think the new tiered rate is great for people who have EV and can plan the usage accordingly since it's impossible to keep it to tier 1 rate with an EV. With the fact that I could switch my most power-hungry usage to off-peak, going even below the original tier1 rate, the saving is quite substantial.

I looked into it and I don't gain much if at all with the tiered rates.

We aren't going to do our laundry overnight and we would be in bed by 11pm.

Yes we have a PHEV but we don't even have a level 2 charger because most of the time we don't need it. But it also means it's plugged in whenever it's home and we can't/won't wait until night time.

I’ve talked to people at hydro and one guy who has 2 Teslas figured he still wasn’t coming out ahead due to his heat pump and other things required to be running during the day due to having kids.

Said it’s a very fine line to making it work the way it’s currently structured and for most people, you’ll be paying more

Badhobz 07-15-2024 07:01 AM

da fuck? dont you people own multi million dollar homes? who gives a shit about hydro costs.

^ I can't imagine feeling any satisfaction whatsoever about plotting out when shit turns on and off to save $ especially when I'm already loaded lol

Different personalities and mindsets keep the world interesting though!

i mean im a cheap fuck too, but im only cheap to myself and thats only because i grew up poor. If i had to adjust my lifestyle to accommodate a electricity bill i think i rather kill myself first.

68style 07-15-2024 07:54 AM

Didn't you buy Hitler box because you got bored 1 day?

Badhobz 07-15-2024 07:56 AM

Badhobz 07-15-2024 09:44 AM

Makes about as much sense as me looking to buy a bug out boat and paying 6k to moor it.

bcrdukes 07-15-2024 10:04 AM

Savings = money you didn't need to, or have to spend, and money you end up keeping (normal people)

Savings = spend money (Badhobz logic) :lol

Badhobz 07-15-2024 04:47 PM

Stop talking to my wife Dukes !!!!! She’s conspiring you against me !

bcrdukes 07-15-2024 05:26 PM

68style 07-16-2024 07:22 AM
