No way in hell will there be a toll as long as 1 of 2 bridges to the N. Shore requires you to drive thru downtown. The West Van elites will make sure of that

It’ll be a win/win for the west van elites. Less riff raffs crossing over the lions gate and quicker for them to go downtown to holt renfrew.

There mere fact of there being a toll will deter a lot of cheapskates from going into a certain designated area. So even if it is just a $1 toll, that would already have an effect in reducing traffic volume.

With more EVs on the road, less cars are paying fuel taxes, yet EVs still use the same roads.

I'd like them to consider eliminating the gas tax completely and replacing it with a vehicle levy, charged on your insurance, that goes to roads. I'd even be ok if gas cars paid more than EVs, so that there's still an incentive for people to switch.

Don't do it. Leaving the gym around 2pm or 3pm heading back home to Burnaby from the auto mall would be awful.

Part of the reason why is Seaspan is near the auto mall. All those workers clock out around 2pm or 3pm, which is a big part of why traffic is so bad.

If you wanted to try it, I'd only consider if you're on the road no later than 2pm heading home, along with a very very good reason why this gym is better than something closer to you.

Driving from North Van to Brentwood would be about as enjoyable as getting a hand job (or a Cleveland Steamer) from VRY.

The 2km stretch on Main around Park & Tilford Mall to the bridge is AWFUL - I've spent an hour just on that stretch on a weekday around 3pm (I've learned some ways to shorten it but it's still bad).

Ugh typical Vancouver bs. Tiny ass lots, no green space at all, literally can sneeze and hit the guy next to you. 3 pointless levels of uselessness.

I don’t know why people put up with this shit for this sort of money. 4.4 you can buy a 3700sqft house with a beautiful 8-9000 lot and real grass with a 3 car garage.

Oh so sorry, you have to add 10 minutes to your commute downtown … stupid

Never really get the argument of being so close to neighbours etc.

My parents have a half acre in Surrey that’s very private which is almost unheard of in their area and I grew up there for 25+ years

Now In Vancouver yea I look at my Neighbors home through my kitchen window but I’ve never once thought like “I’m suffocating here!!”

What can you do with slightly more yard? Unless you’ve got a pool or something, what? You can setup a badminton net?

That’s cuz you’re a weirdo voyeur who likes to stare into peoples kitchens. If I paid that kind of money and I can see my Neighbor I’d lose it. I got a single detached house to get the fuck away from people

My mom has a massive yard in edmonton. She doesn’t have a dog running around it, spends hours mowing it every week and trimming bushes/trees and shit. She doesn’t use it or care for it but has that “omg houses are so close together” mindset when she sees new neighbourhoods pop up. She’s not a boomer, but that is such boomer mindset. 90% of people it’s just a hinderance to have that extra land to maintain.

I grew up on a 1/4 acre lot in Richmond surrounded by blueberry farms so I can appreciate what it's like to live in the sticks but that type of lifestyle or even that of a South Surrey, Langley or Richmond big lot doesn't appeal to me right now.

I want to walk to my amenities - right now I'm a 10 min walk to my kid's school (and 12 mins from her high school), a 12 min walk to Skytrain and a 15 min walk to Crystal Mall. If Burnaby gave a shit about walkability like Vancouver does I'd walk even more (there's so little tree cover in Burnaby and tiny sidewalks - Burnaby hates pedestrians). I don't want to use my car unless I have to - I love to drive but a lot of my drives are just a sign that I'm wasting time. I'd like to own an e-bike and hop on it for my slightly longer trips.

If I were Harvey rich I'd live in Kerrisdale right off 41st - close to lots of amenities, easy to get around, lots of life nearby. Something like this would be neat: https://www.zealty.ca/mls-R3000290/5...-Vancouver-BC/ (5 min walk to the heart of Kerrisdale)

i wonder why that 4.4m house didnt make the little studio a tiny bit bigger given that it's a new build anyway? normally people stick within the 100sf limit because it means they don't need a permit to build it. nobody regrets building a larger detached space, even if its just a few feet bigger in each direction.

Nah, some US states do this to keep gas prices low by charging property tax on your vehicle based on market value.

You people are crazy. Walkability is last on my list. Why walk anywhere. That’s for peasants. I drive anywhere in Richmond it’s 10-15 minutes

Bigger lot, not talking to idiots, and peace and quiet.. now that’s luxury. Getting crammed next to other peasants is communism.

It’s not like you’ve got 10 acres

You’ve got double the space most do between you and the next person? lol

Like what’s the size of your backyard? Most regular suburban homes probably have similar if your house takes up the entire lot like most of those type of homes do

Unless you’re on acerage out in Langley where your driveway is 200 feet off the road and you physically have to make an effort to see another home or person, it’s all the same shit

Honestly living in this townhouse complex I’m in has been awesome. There’s like 15 kids close to my daughter’s age that meet up summer nights and play. The parents I get along with too so we can shoot the shit for an hour while the kids tire out and it’s like 6-7:30 most nights so it’s not like the noise is interfering with anyone unless they are really cunty and don’t understand how living in a city works. I’d love a house at some point but the social aspect of having good neighbours in close quarters is beneficial for my circumstances. Having a bunch of property to maintain isn’t in the cards for us even if we could afford it based on time constraints.
Also 5 minute walk to the elementary school she will go to in a year, 15 minute walk to daycare, 5 minute walk to the grocery store. The idea of having to drive to all that shit under any circumstance is such a waste.
