CF cards are inherently more costly to produce and less demand as compared to SD cards. One of the reasons CF cards are more costly to produce is because they have the controller chip in card; SD cards do not have that built in.

Though whether or not it should be 5 times more, I certainly agree that shouldn't be the case. Just markup there.

Can anyone here clarify my tax liabilities for me?

I just bought a 5D3 shipped to seattle. If I stay for >48hrs, will I be eligible for $800 tax exemption on the camera even though the purchased date is not during my time of travel?

Ronin 12-10-2012 01:06 PM

Doesn't matter. It's when you brought it over the border.

Remember that cameras and camera equipment (except lighting I think) are duty free BUT you will probably still have to pay HST.

Hope you got a smokin' deal.

Hmmm, $129 is a great price. Other solutions like Cineskates and such are more expensive and are only either a dolly or a slider.

Can't find any reviews though. None for Kamerar products.

EDIT: shipping is free to the US and Canada. They ship DHL/Fedex/USPS so no stupid UPS brokerage fee.

...well, fuck me. I was hoping to not spend any more money after buying my 35 f1.4 but dammit, just bought it. :okay:

Hondaracer 12-10-2012 03:33 PM

so i ordered a 3rd party wireless remote that also came with a hood and a spare battery [all for $18 lol :S]

would you guys trust a batter that came with other accessories for $15? lol

giCe 12-10-2012 08:39 PM

B&H t4i with 18-55, bag and filter for $599 USD (have to add to cart to see the $599 price)

I thought that only goes for camera equipments made in the USA.

I think that technically speaking, you won't get $800 exemption on the camera. If you go over the limit, you will have to pay tax on everything.

Not sure how much you'll actually get taxed though.

JordanLee 12-11-2012 12:27 AM

If you meet the $800 exemption, you pay taxes on the remaining value of the goods if youve gone over.

JordanLee 12-11-2012 12:45 AM

Residents Returning to Canada

Most electronics are duty free. Taxes only.

That is my understanding as well. Thanks!

Ronin 12-11-2012 01:03 PM

Nice. When I bought it 8 months ago, it was $1000 more...

Ronin 12-13-2012 05:43 PM

Picked up my slider/dolly from Point Roberts. Can't wait to play with it.

That's such an awesome deal. Wish I waited a few weeks. But I'm happy with mine.

:p :lol

I get the feeling this thing is designed for smaller, lighter cameras. Works well as a dolly, not so much as a slider.

Hondaracer 12-14-2012 10:28 PM

sweet

Heads up: 2x Lexar Professional 800x 16GB for $90 at Amazon, B&H and Adorama. 2x 32GB is $156.

EDIT: Hmmm, apparently they're not very good...slower than the 600x cards.

Was thinking of buying some Transcend 32GB 400x cards. They're only $40.

Transcend cards are very very good for the price. Warranty is amazing compared with Lexar + Sandisk. I use the 16GB and 32GB 400x and they work awesome.

if you buy any lexar from adorama you get $20.00 off on lexar usb3.0 CF/SD card reader + 2% cash back credit

Ronin 12-20-2012 09:27 AM

I thought about it but then I can't imagine the Lexar reader being THAT much faster than my cheap Kingston USB 3.0 reader.

!MiKrofT 12-20-2012 09:29 AM

Hmm anyone got a link for the Transcend? Thinking of getting one for my new 7D that's coming.
