EDIT: Hmmm, apparently they're not very good...slower than the 600x cards.

Was thinking of buying some Transcend 32GB 400x cards. They're only $40.

The 800x 16GB CF Cards are on sale at Kerrisdale Camera for $40 right now. Does anybody think that's worth it?

i've been looking at

Canon EOS Rebel T3 EF-S 18-55mm IS & 55-250mm Kit - Black which is 599$

Canon EOS Rebel T4i w/EF-S 18-55 IS II Kit which is also 599$

Canon EOS Rebel T3 EF-S 18-55mm IS & 75-300mm Kit - Black which is 570$

any advice would be highly appreciated. and are there usually huge lineups like hours before opening at broadway camera?

I'm not too knowledgeable about Canons but to me the best deal looks like the T3 with 18-55mm and 75-300mm

kayceeee 12-25-2012 03:03 PM

would the t3 be a lot different than the t4i?

ddr 12-25-2012 03:20 PM

imo, i'd get a d7000 so ur'd be set for a long time.

but out of the 3 choices, i'd get the t4i. think of the 55-250 as $150 discount as that was how much it was during the amazon sale. the 75-300 is not the greatest. t4i at least has a recycled sensor from the t3i and t2i. i think the t3 comes from the XS.

I'm told the 800x cards are actually slower than the 600x cards...that Lexar released them as a budget alternative to the stupid expensive 1000x cards.

Dunno, I just bought the Transcend 32GB cards for $40. You can get the 800x cards in a 2-pack for $90 regularly.

I really wish they made the NEX-5R bodies on sale. :(

LiquidTurbo 12-25-2012 06:38 PM

refurb d600

Nikon D600 Digital SLR Camera Body - Factory Refurbished includes Full 1 Year Warranty

1679. Killer deal for FF.

Hondaracer 12-25-2012 08:52 PM

Kaycee, the touch screen the T4i has is really nice and was a feature that was kind of on the back burner when I was debating the 3 or 4 but now that I've used it, it's pretty awsome and worth getting the t4i I think, and I'm not sure how your GF is with technical stuff but I think the touchscreen would really help somone who isn't all that tech savy, or may become frustrated with using the dial all the time

kayceeee 12-25-2012 09:04 PM

thanks! i think i'l go with the t4i as well, cuz she can always get new/better lens down the road, but more of a waste keep changing bodies.

btw anyone know how the line ups will be for broadway camera? first time going to a dedicated camera store.

Ronin 12-26-2012 12:26 AM

In the event that you guys find a good Boxing Day deal and you can't get there or they're out of stock, let me know...I might be able to hook you up if you have trouble.

Easiest purchase ever. In and out in 5min. Now I'm early for work lol.

Also saw someone looking at a T3i. He's like how do I get more zoom? Sales rep replies. Oh you should get this other camera instead it has more zoom. I didn't see what he was pointing at.

Canon Rebel T4i 18MP DSLR w/ 18-55mm & 55-250mm Lens, Dynex Tripod, & 58mm UV Filter

879.99

this good or is the broadway camera t4i with 18-55 for 599 a better deal?

4.5 kilo load, not good enough.

You're basically paying face value for all the stuff in the FS/Bestbuy bundle. The 55-250 is around $200ish while the tripod and filter and cheapo stuffs. For me I'd rather go for the broadway camera one and save the money for a better lens down the road.

I decided to get the T4i at Broadway camera. Last one at Coquitlam location this morning.

I'm the same way. I've always thought it was funny that I've got no problem with spending a few thousand on cameras and lenses or even bags but I'm super cheap when it comes to tripods. I use a $90 Velbon C-600.

One day I'll buy that Manfrotto.

All comes down to your needs, I suppose... if you're only ever shooting candids at family parties, a 1Ds-III with L glass is sort of overkill... if you're not shooting star trails or doing commercial macro photography or something else that requires a super-steady camera, there's probably no need to drop more than $100 on a 'pod.

The Manny combo is a nice setup - quick-release ball head, sturdy yet light 'pod. And you save a bit over buying them separately.

Just picked up my Transcend 400x 32GB card ($40 from B&H).

Says 90x read, 60x write on the box.

Ran it with my Kingston USB 3.0 card reader and it tested as 39-40MB/s write and 106-109MB/s read.

As a comparison, the 400x Lexar 16GB I've been using in my 5D Mark III pretty much every day for 8 months says 35-37MB/s write and 75-78MB/s read in the same test. I've never had a problem using it in any situation recording 1080p video. I also use the slightly slower quiet burst mode and never really more than 2-3 frames.

Those are some good deals!

Hondaracer 12-26-2012 05:17 PM

picked up the 50mm 1.8 today at FS for $99, and got the Lowepro Versapack 200AW at London Drugs for $70, i think buddy fucked up ringing it up lol :S

It's not high end by any means, but i spent like 20 minutes on amazon looking at various backpacks and i find this one accomadates all my gear the best, i really like the bottom pouch for lenses etc:

not the highest end backpack, but i think it will do!

Mashimaro 12-26-2012 08:28 PM

^nice pick up on the 50mm 1.8!

that's a nice looking camera bag as well!

Went to Broadway camera today to buy a tripod bag. was only a few bucks off but i've been wanting one for a while.

Was shocked to see the 5D3 body down to $2999 already (paid $3500 for mine a few months back, ouch!).

Crazy deal on the D600 though. 6D was not really cheap for what it was. and lenses are still pretty painful as i was looking at the Canon 24-70 2.8 II (on sale for $2300).

Played with the Fuji XE1. impressive camera. even at ISO 6400! drooled over the Leica Monochrome and M-E :(
