Litecoin - the GPU Mining Alternative to Bitcoin

since I'm away from home... all I have is a Laptop with a 2GB GeForce GT540M

I guess it'll be pretty useless?

edit: read the scrypt readme again - mining with a laptop seems like a bad idea? Maybe I'll give it a try just to see it, since I've got a proper laptop with fans in it, as well as a cooling fan under it

Does lending your GPU/CPU to "mine" actually create any productivity? IE is the network using the computing resource to actually do anything?

I haven't done much in the way of optimizations. I'm getting ~300 khash with my 7870. It's been overclocked to 1200/1400. Working with GUIminer and burnside's or Coinotron. The tower consumes 217 watts during operation. At $.10 kw/h I can make a profit, apparently.

Try lowering the Gpu Thread to 1, on my 6970 on stock clocks is getting 420+ with these settings

Seems like when I try and enable 2 threads it dips down to 40khash which is weird.
Maybe Skinny can shine in on that :P

I haven't been able to really dig into mining settings, but I think if you increase GPU threads, you'll have to lower TC amount

For me, I get my highest rate with intensity 12.. any higher or lower, and it goes down. And overclocking seems to have no effect which is weird

I also pulled my OC down to 1100/1200, for better stability.

EDIT: bah... too low a TC turns the share accepted rate way down, perhaps, non-existent? I upped TC to 8192, and stuff started getting accepted.

Hmm.. I thought mining LTCs would be same as BTCs, but I guess you can change your hashing rate so you can actually use it.

no. it's not the technology you don't get, it's the concept of value.

gold is worth money because we give it value. we just give it value and it's worth something.

you have to go to a place that exchanges goods for bitcoins.
to change bitcoins to any other currency. it would be like exchanging any currency.
you have to go to a place that converts BC's to whatever you're trying to get. probably USD.
and current supply/demand and economic factors that create the exchange rate of bitcoins are presented by exchanges such as mtgox. like 1bc is worth 120 USD or whatever.

you can convert it based on that price.


people that don't believe in the fundamentals of bitcoin and feel it is not safe or it will crash or whatever... is the same as people that don't believe in equities (stocks) and the US dollar. when that shit becomes weak and they think it's unstable and gonna crash, they pull their "money/value" out of that, and exchange it for something else in equal value, they think will be more stable or rise in value. usually like gold.

the vice versa happens. when economy is good, people pull out of gold and put it in equities.

bitcoin is just another thing you can put your value into. if you think the economy sucks, you can pull out and put your money into something more stable/rising in value. like gold, antiques, art, property, bitcoin. whatever.


not understanding the technology behind it is ok.
just like an investor doesn't need to understand the background of economics and the banking system to invest.
a gambler doesn't need to understand the background of gambling to gamble.
just like you don't fully understand the fundamentals of modern currency to use it and to trade it.

you just have to believe it works and will hold value. that's how all trades, bartering, and exchanges have been done since ever.
