Gas is pretty cheap in Ferndale. It's closer to the border and no lineups. Costco on weekdays is good up until about 4:30 pm.

When you save 5 cents a gallon, it's like a cent a litre. Not worth waiting in line, especially when you're in a hurry to shop hard and beat the traffic going back. It's all about the planning and being efficient. No time for rest. You rest after you cross the border back into Canada, LOLOLOL.

BTW, Americans are into coupons........so many good deals out there.

^Staples, for one. They have fantstic deals and coupons every month. To get their e-mails, simply sign up for a rewards card. You need a US address, but it can be any address. They don't send stuff through the mail, anyway.

Also sign up for Kohls, Fred Myers, Macy's, etc.

If you google coupons USA, you'll get shit loads of websites. Need to wade through it all.

Then, there's ebates.......

Coupons, Promo Codes and Cash Back Savings - Ebates.com

Jack in the Box coupons.......... mmmmmm....... until I got food poisining there one day (probably pink slime, LOL).

MG1 09-18-2013 10:39 AM

Going cross border today......... it's seniors day - free slot play, hee hee.

Also gonna go to Fasteners Inc. to pick up some fasteners, maybe Michael's (50% off one item coupon), and gas, of course.

Haven't gone to Trader Joe's and Harbor Freight in a while...........

kevinC 09-18-2013 11:51 AM

I figured someone was going to mention Costco. How much cheaper are they usually? I'll have to check out Ferndale since I don't have Costco membership.

Spectre_Cdn 09-18-2013 12:02 PM

Costco Bellingham was $3.49USD/gallon last week.

Acura604 09-18-2013 12:08 PM

Costco Bellingham can also be absolutely chaotic at times with the lineups and the mofos filling up 5-10 jerrycans.

JesseBlue 09-18-2013 03:48 PM

Wait wait wait... There is harbour freight in bellingham? Google here i come...

$3.559/gal for 87 Octane at Costco today.

$3.559 at Pilot in Ferndale.......$3.689 for 89 Octane, and $3.819 for 92 Octane.

Pilot is like a Husky gas station. The kind you see out in the boonies..... truckers' oasis (showers, restaurant, truck wash, etc.). The one in Ferndale is also next to a McDonalds. I guess it's the first McDonalds you hit along the I5.

I crossed the border at Sumas at around 1:30 this afternoon and there was a 2 car wait. Went to casino for an hour. Arrived at Costco and there was zero lineup at the pumps.

Coming back there was a 10 minute lineup at Peace Arch. This was around 5:00 PM. So much win............ until I decided to take 99 through Richmond instead of the usual Alex Fraser route. Frick, that tunnel sucks ass. Never do that again.

I think the gas prices at Fred Myers are slightly higher. I always check on the way back. With the discount, Fred Myers might be slightly cheaper. I don't shop often at FM, but a lot of their stuff is expensive. 12 can pack of pop for $4.00, on sale??? I saw a lot of people buying it, so I thought it was 2/$4.00. I double checked and it was for one.

No Frills has 12 can packs of pop for $2.97. Hell, even Safeway has them for $3.50.

Bananas were 79 cents a pound at FM today. Superstore is 59 cents a pound.

So, dairy is cheaper, but most other things are same or higher in the US. People automatically assume stuff is cheaper down south. It's not always the case.

I do the majority of my shopping at FM. Bottle pop is usually cheaper but I grab the cans for flavors you can't get in Canada. Juice, meat, and dry goods like pasta are cheaper as well, and I can generally get an extra weeks worth of food compared to my shopping list in Canada. I have a number in Washington via my aunt so I get the discounted gas, price is on par with those El cheapo stations, averaging 3.69 a gallon.

When I say prices are higher in the US, you have to remember I shop at places like No Frills and only buy stuff that's on sale. Pasta? No Frills has Unico pasta (900g) for 99¢ when on sale. I understand the pop flavours, as you cannot get Vanilla Coke up here. You can get stuff just as cheap or cheaper up here in Canada, if you shop wisely and know your prices.

yah..i know some prices are more expensive...i don't drink pop that much and since my wife is a couponer, we still have tons and tons of pop at the house...heck, i think i still have 5-6 boxes of nestea ice tea when they had the free box coupon...we have more than a years worth of soap and shampoo so we don't shop for those...its more the dairy for the kids and ice cream for us...

btw, anyone tried the new winco? i heard that its cash only but prices seemed to be good...

MG1 09-21-2013 11:40 AM

Oh wow, they have a Winco in Bellingham now? Hmmmmmm....... gotta go check it out. I went to one when I drove down to SoCal and it was different. Employee owned store. Thanks, another place to go.......

lilaznviper 09-21-2013 02:47 PM
