Too many of my buddies own property in Birch Bay..........no thanks. I'm more inclined to get property near Lynden - god's country. Probably Wiser Lake area.

god bless

As a side note, gas is at $2.06 / gal at Freddy's in Bellingham. Damn, that's so much cheaper than in GVRD.

heisenberg 01-05-2015 05:12 PM

im pretty sure this has been asked, how do the officers usually react when you bring a parcel over and you claim it?

MG1 01-05-2015 05:31 PM

nothing, as long as you have the paper work and package is opened so they can see item.

Remember to include shipping costs, if any, when you declare.

Jas29 01-05-2015 09:31 PM

I'm thinking about buying this tool box
Roller Cabinet - 44" Red Rolling Tool Cabinet w/ 13 Drawers

Its going to cost 360 USD

does anybody know how much duty I would have to pay when I cross the border.

I think its 55ish dollars

Acura604 01-06-2015 09:58 AM

Did a quick run to Shell on D street in Blaine...wow, I've never filled up the TL from empty to full for such a low amount. I think this translated to about .75/litre for premium 91! After exchange, probably $43cdn.

what's wrong with having buddies owning property in the same area? i've actually wondered about owning something by the water close to the boarder...don't think it'll happen though...too broke :lol :okay:

Hondaracer 01-06-2015 11:09 AM

The best vacation home is Somone else's, thats why lol

MG1 01-06-2015 11:11 AM

Want to be left alone............. whole idea is to take a break. Not party all day and all night, then have to recover from it all.

MG1 01-06-2015 06:36 PM

$2.04/gal and dropping at Freddy's this afternoon. I wAnder if it'll dip below 2 bucks a gallon.

Also, 97¢ / litre this morning in Abbotsford. Nice!

crew08 01-07-2015 12:11 AM

Picked up gas at Costco in abbotsford today. 91.9

MG1 01-07-2015 07:39 AM

It's 95.9 at Superstore in Abbotsford, but with the 7 cents off per litre in Superbucks or PC points, it makes it less than Costco in Abbotsford. To get 7 cents off, you need to have a PC card of some kind, otherwise, it's 3.5 cents off a litre.

It's really too bad USA Gas in Sumas is undergoing renovations, 'cause they started matching Bellingham Costco gas prices. Now that they're gone all the gas prices in Sumas are relatively high. It's $2.49 / gal for regular at Super Duper Gas in Sumas.

Washington Gas Prices - Find Cheap Gas Prices in Washington

Oh look, it's below 2 bucks a gallon in Bellingham today.

Ban on poultry products from Washington State and Oregon frustrate cross-border shoppers | Globalnews.ca

Quote:

A recent ban on poultry products from Washington State and Oregon by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is causing inconvenience for consumers and industry alike.

“Not being able to get what you planned to get is a little disappointing,” said Cherryl Smith, who headed to Blaine today to get chicken and eggs only be told she wouldn’t be allowed to bring them back.

“There should be more publicity about it and more widely known before people come down.”

MG1 01-11-2015 07:09 PM

Hahahahahaha........ I was asked that question today.

I never get chicken or eggs from the US.

Anyway, this morning was special one for me. I crossed at around 5:45 am at PA. One lane open and a wait of about seven cars. Border guard asks me where I'm going and all the usual questions. He then tells me to turn the car off and give him the keys. He tries to lift the cover to the spare tire, but he can't lift it. He asks what the hell I have in there. I tell him a second battery for the stereo. It is mounted on a hinged 3/4 ply facing down into the spare tire, so I can get to it in emergencies.

Dude tells me to park it in the inspection area. I was there for 45 minutes while they took everything apart. He genuinely thought I had weapons hidden under the false floor.

When I went into the waiting area, nobody was there, so I kind of wandered around. Old fart comes in and says, "What part of a line up do you not understand?" He was pretty pissed. I look around and I'm the only person there. Okay, I say to myself and just sit on the bench. Anyway, I thought he was going to be the one tearing my car apart. Luckily it was a younger dude who knew enough about stereos - he assured me nothing would be broken in the process. He asks me one more time if I have any weapons in the car or any drugs. After he's finished, he comes back into the building and dissapears for awhile. He looked a little disappointed.

Wife tells me later after I get home that there was a protest of some kind planned in the Seattle area. I need to lose the beard. I look like a terrorist, LOL.

$1.91/gallon today in Bellingham, but way more the further south you go. Another thing I discovered today is that Fred Meyers gas bar is open 24/7.......... didn't know that.

Gh0stRider 01-11-2015 07:18 PM

my crossing today was the typical "anything to declare?"

asked nothing about chicken or eggs.

m3thods 01-11-2015 10:25 PM

Received the most questions ever both ways today in the Nexus lanes. Was asked "where are you going/what for" on the way down, then "bonjour/do you have any groceries?/anything to declare?/what is a carafe?/ok buhbye". No more "see you later!"

Times have changed mannnnn :)

hchang 01-12-2015 10:42 PM

^ I think you're just leaving yourself open to too many questions that can be satisfied by anticipating what the officers are gonna ask

Went down an hour ago CBP asked purpose of trip I said Blaine for gas and milk and got a bye

CBSA asked anything to declare I said full tank of gas + gallon of milk and got a thank you

Matsuda 01-13-2015 12:11 AM

Trader Joes had signs saying no chicken, turkey or eggs could be brought back. At the checkout they said the beef we were buying may not be allowed either. We ended up buying no raw meat just in case.

My point was that I was no longer getting waived through automatically on the way down. The last 2 times down I've been asked "where are you going/what are you doing?". After answering I get the wave through.

Yeah I haven't seen any new news, but the avian flu scares in Washington/Oregon must be pretty annoying for people who buy meat to bring back.

jamie5d 01-13-2015 12:10 PM

Heh, if you look in the vehicle inspection area after crossing northbound into Canada at the Peace Arch, there's a huge stack of confiscated eggs on the counters.

I wonder who the owner could be :)

Man, Costco actually had parking and no line up at gas bar. This chicken shit has kept people from coming down. Just imagine what would happen if milk was banned. Borders were pretty calm, too.

Gas was cheaper at Freddy's. That's probably why Costco was abandoned. Damn, bargain hunters, eh?

I'm curious how many Canadians will stop going to the states.

iamon 01-21-2015 12:56 PM

It would probably reduce the amount that people buy, but the things that have a big price difference would still be worth it to purchase in the states. Personally I will probably reduce the amount of stuff I order and probably shop around more.
